Btw. Kiyoko is the team manager. The black haired guy (Takeda), whom you always call the manager is actually the head coach even though he barely knows anything about the sport. Fun fact, Takeda-Sensei is also a philosophy teacher, so you might occasionally notice that indirectly. His voice actor also does the Japanese voice acting of Levi from AoT.

It's common for sport animes to have the main protagonist with immense talent, but also not really much experience, to explain the rules to the viewers, while he is facing a genius prodigy. In a sport like volleball, building a team is always what's important in the beginning, after that new problems and challenges will appear, that's why sport animes usually start slowly, with the basics. The overall feeling in HQ is good feel .
Don't forget that there are just as many anime where players are not beginners, such as Ace of Diamond, Major, and Inazuma Eleven 😂

😂 The dislike for Tsukki is expected. It looks like we got Brig and Cannon, but Mckay is still not feeling it and that's fine. It'll be nice if he eventually starts liking it, but if not, then it is what it is. I just hope he won't have too bad of a time watching the series. I'm continuing to enjoy Jack and Carter's enthusiasm.
yes, it's like that. Also sports animes aren't for everyone, so they just might not be McKays cup of tea. But I also never seen reactors who reacted to at least one season, not liking it at the end, so let's just wait. Jack is so full of live in these reactions, I like it!
if i remember correctly, mckay's also the one who likes dark stories most? so i get why this wont do it for him. I hope he enjoys it eventually like the others though
@@zeroknight4517i mean true that but tbh before watching haikyuu I also never entertained the idea of watching sports but after watching haikyuu idk but it felt a breath of fresh air from action animes coz of realism and how we get invested in their journey and starts to root for them. It's a nice feeling tbh and it made me appreciate sports anime more and have also watched couple more after haikyuu and I also enjoyed those very much.

Since you do not have too much volleyball knowledge, Sugawara said Asahi preferes higher tosses, away from the net. Here's what that means:
- Lower tosses are faster, giving less time for everyone to react (both enemy and allies), and it's usually good to avoid an skilled enemy blocker.
- Higher tosses are slower, giving more time for everyone to react (both enemy and allies), and it's usually good when you know you spiker it's good enough to win against the enemy block. (It's also easier to set, which makes it the only options when there's a bad receive)
- Tosses closer to the net are much harder to get past the block, because it's much closer to it, eliminating much of the angles that could be used to spike around it. When this type of toss gets spiked past the enemy block, there's little the enemy team can do, since you can pretty much spike it down, because of the position you're in.
- Tosses away from the net gives the spiker much more angles to hit past the enemy block, but you'll have to spike more foward and less down, since you're further away from the net.
If the setter knows that the spiker can get to the ball before any blocker, it would be optimal to set it fast and close to the net. Can't believe I'm rewatching Haikyu's older seasons just for your reactions. It's been 8 years ago since I watched season 1 and I tell you, the story will only sky rocket from there!! and yes they will be introducing a new character every episode even on the later seasons. They'll introduce you to all of Karasuno's opponents which makes you love them too :))

See I only started watching Haikyuu back in April after a classmate of mine recommended it to me and other anime fans at our school and she said to me that there’s gonna probably be a certain point where I get completely invested, and I gotta say that these two specific episodes is what exactly got me invested in this series, conveniently the one where we got all of Karasuno together and right before meeting my favorite character and favorite team aside from Karasuno and I have to admit in the entire month span I spent catching up on the series so I could catch up before the movie released in the US, Haikyuu has become the biggest comfort anime to me
I think at this point of the show everyone should go watch one game of japanesse highschool volleyball just to see how little exaggeration is in this show, they actually can jump super high and hit through blockers, Yoji Nishida even did it at an international level when he was 19.

An ace is usually a wing spiker on the left. Their job is usually to handle spikes that come from messed up receives hence he/she is the most reliable spiker. The reason asahi was so down on himself was because he felt he had the responsibility to carry the team which he realized later at 10:47 with noya's words that he was wrong even if the role for scoring was on him he was not more responsible because in volleyball every move literally depends on the play before it (except serve obv)

The Golden Week happens during the first week of May, there are a bunch of holidays together so usually schools and some workplaces have the whole week free.
So the boys will be doing the training camp and the match against Nekoma during these days!

i love watching people's reactions to haikyuu bc i always get reminded of how far the team has come and i just adore the friendships sm especially with karasuno and i get emotional lmao
for some context the nicknames given to the schools come from the names: Karasuno - crow (karasu), Nekoma - cat (neko), Nohebi - snake (hebi), Itachiyama - weasel (itachi), Fukurodani - owl (fukuro), and more along those lines. thats why you can see all those animals and other stuff as the school representatives in many scenes.
Also, there are no real 'bad and evil or toxic' characters in hq. i mean they are normal high schoolers, but all of them are all likable, no character you can hate.

Don't overthink guys, just enjoy the show. The only unrealistic (sort of) here in Haikyuu is Kageyama's super accuracy. It's only highschool boys who love and almost obsessed with volleyball. Not everyone suddenly will have a massive character developments and then after that everything will go into the right place or have a massive twist of events. This is what I love in Haikyuu than other anime (I watched so many types of anime, even genres). 😊

Try not to worry about any negative comments! as a huge fan of this show, ill say this: I hesitate to say that this show starts off "slow," because it isn't slow per se, it simply takes a bit more time to really introduce the characters, their goals and fears. With that being said, Haiku isn't just about how it "ends" (i.e. who wins or who loses), It is more about the "how did they get there" and what happens in those *crucial* moments that lead to who wins or loses.
If you want quality characters with flaws, hardships, mental struggles or physical ones -- you will absolutely get that with this show, but let me say that IT WILL BE WORTH IT. The dialogue, the struggles, etc -- they MATTER. I think in terms of realistic sports anime, this is it! Put yourself in the place of the characters, reminisce about the times you played sports (or if you didn't play sports, a time in your life where you struggled to accomplish a goal or learn something new), and you will realize what this show is and what it is trying to do.
Just sit back and enjoy!

Love chatting about mental blocks. Olympics Tokyo 2020(1) when Simone Biles dropped out due to the twisties was such a conversation starter about the mental health of athletes. Asahi's character growth was super impactful for me, and there's only good stuff to come!
