Arcanum, you say? I'm sure Tim will be happy to hear someone is taking inspiration from his game. On a side note, I'm really digging the 3D environments.
Very interesting, this looks really good. One thing though I read from the early access notes on steam, made me wonder: They state that the EA of the game would encompass roughly 10 hours of gameplay and that this represents about a third of the game. So 30 hours of total gameplay? That does sound a bit light weighted for a game like that where even combat alone takes quite a while. On the other hand, I would take 30 hours of BG3/Arcanum style fun over something like Dragon Age 4 or the next copy of Assassins Creed Action Lootbox gamery nonsense at any time :D
I'm loving this game and have high hopes. Thanks for the introduction! I encourage you to revisit this EA and complete the Slums area. The devs do have a presence on the Steam forums and Discord. They've already added individual sliders for audio in the recent patch. Also, there are hints of "the wilderness" from signs and NPC dialogues in the Arrival Port. So I'm guessing there will be some "naturey" areas later on.
This had my interest the moment I first heard of it. Absolutely getting myself into Early Access after my bills and everything clear, but it's good to have a preview to refer to before diving headfirst in.
Just so you all know, it's only 10 hours of play, and the game is only 25% done. You're buying a very, very early version. It will be interesting to know how much they think they should get for this game now when it launches tomorrow.
@@dominika376240 hours is pretty decent, this isn't a large studio either so for an indie crpg I don't think its that bad of an offer. There's always the chance that they extend the game if it gathers enough funding but if no one buys it then there's no reason to spend more money making it bigger so they'll stick with 40hrs. Since its also 1/4 done they still have a lot of room and time to do what they want with the story, but again they likely don't have a ton of funds left so they went early access in hopes of developing it further unless its a passion project that funding is not as necessary.
@vegassims7 Im worried it wont gather much attention and the players it does get in EA might refund it because of how few early game “hooks” there are like a tense scene or a decent set of combat situations. It could be that they focus more on narrative though, still a lot to do with 1/4 done so they could do a lot during development.
I just started it today - it looks good, if unpolished. But the setting and worldbuilding is interesting for sure. I really hope this will be great, when it fully releases
Hey Wolf, super excited to try out this game tonight after work. Also wanted to mention I'm in your top 0.3% viewership on UA-cam and I don't regret a single second of your streams this year. Skol 🤝
The game is looking good so far. Im not sure if its in the works or not but id love more voice acting! Larian’s style with nearly 100% voice acted dialogue has set a new entertainment standard for me. Like its legit hard for me to enjoy even the classic crpg’s now after getting that sweet sweet Larian voice acting
My only gripe so far is the UI, i have been spoilt and gotten used to BG3's UI and its perfect, this one feels kinda all over the place, chaotic and unplanned, hopefully they work on it and make it a bit more cleaner and presentable and also more user-friendly.
I'm quietly optimistic about this game. I LOVE steampunk, and this is giving me strong Castle Falkenstein (TTRPG that uses playing cards instead of dice) vibes. Really looking forward to playing it. The graphics look so much nicer than last time I saw a demo!
This looks really good. And it scratches my Shadowrun itch of fantasy combined with well not future in this case but steampunk. Will definately keep an eye out on the pricing
I played the demo of this game and I really liked it, hoping they really make a great game here since I'm looking to play something else other than BG3, I need a new RPG fix
I really like that totem spell that was a very cool idea and the smell effects look pretty good so far! Both grasping hand the totem and the skull. I really enjoyed the animations on those. And self sustaining spells!! none of this concentration nonsense that wizards has completely destroyed D&D with
they should create much longer idle animations for all actors and enemies and then play them from randomized start points. looks really silly when all the enemies sway around in sync.
The only thing I don't like about this game, is the writing. It seems like they just let the writers go ham, without any form of control or direction. Moreover, they don't seem to have much experience in videogame writing. In a book you need descriptions to form a picture in your mind of what's going on. In a game you don't. In a game you have 3d models, backgrounds and art, so you can see with your eyeballs what is happening. You don't need all the excessive descriptions. If you add a lot of descriptions and exposition, it just becomes redundant and becomes a chore to read or listen to. They should really do an editing run and cut out a lot the descriptions imo. --- A perfect example of something that could/should be cut out, is a part in the introduction when you enter the city. When you meet the customs officer, after the line: "there is the customs officer to deal with", they should just stop and let the customs officer do his thing. The in between that are just bad writing and shouldn't be there. Parts of it are redundant (you can hear him being indifferent, you don't need to tell us), parts of the descriptions make no sense (there is no tabletop with papers strewn around it) and it allround just hampers the pacing of the game.
Wow it's almost like baldurs gate 3.. camera isn't as robust and looks like it's got zones instead of a big map open though.. thing just shadow dropped outta nowhere for me. I might have to pick it up tomorrow and play it when it's out of EA. I heard it's like 10 hours so hopefully the price is like 20 $
not sure if the controller support is there or not right now? But since the game is also planned for console it's either there now or will be at some point.
Another thing that worries me is the mp. It’s far more logical to me to use things like feet or meters when it comes to moving and saying your character can move 10 feet or your character can move you know 3m, or whatever the equivalent is, when they start creating their own systems for things instead of established mechanics that clearly make more sense. And you pretty much bet it’s just to be different. I’m worried because it’s possible that they’re gonna overlook something better than what they implement because they are trying to be different. I think that’s a bit of a line that I guess all companies and devs walk. I don’t know. I’m concerned by a few of their choices so far. All just my thoughts though.
Movement points, or action points that can be made before the enemy does their action. Feet and meters don’t make as much sense in a turned based game to show you when your turn ends.
CRPGs w portrait systems that don’t just use a snapshot of your ingame character are strange to me. Like why would my portrait not be 1:1 w my character’s appearance?
Hey Wolf, quick question. The game says CRPG. which is what interested me in this game. Growing up with BG1, BG2 and Icewind Dale. CRPG means PAUSE AND PLAY, not turn based combat. Is this pause and play or only turn based. This is a deal breaker for me if it's only turn based. Can you elaborate please? Thank you!
I think my worry for this game is that any user who purchases it in hopes it'll be a balanced CRPG will refund it within the 2-hour limit because they didn't experience enough of combat or other mechanics that the game may have to offer, I hope this game does well but from my POV it needs something tense in between the first hour or so to hook the player. I will buy it and play it all through EA and once again on full release because lots of dialogue is a positive for me, but I guess we will see how things go. I truly hope it gets enough to fund further development.
@@James-u1y nah I get that, I do too. The game seems to be getting good coverage from other channels like mortismal and ACG. So it’s going to have some decent exposure. Another thing that worries me is blocking. It says you get to block one instance of damage I think it said… why wouldn’t you just have a percentage to block for each back? Why do you get one block that is completely stopping damage and second hit get no block? Makes no sense. I think that’s the whole point of a miss chance for every attack so you’re fully capable of blocking the first hit but then you just stand there and do nothing for the second. I don’t understand their choice there it doesn’t make any sense. I just I don’t understand why you wouldn’t do a percentage chance of missing or blocking for each attack. Am I being too critical? Maybe I’m holding them to a bit of a higher standard coming from BG3 but if that’s the standard that’s being set, and what a standard it is, why wouldn’t other companies meet that? Why do something that doesn’t make sense?? it’s not as though you don’t have anything to draw from it’s not as though you’re developing a system from the ground up and kind of feeling your way through it. There’s a sort of template that exists and it’s a common sense one and this just doesn’t seem sensible to me. Sorry for the rant, it’s just I’ve been wanting to like this game waiting to see it played and I’m finding myself a little disappointed so far.
The opening was...odd, disjointed, confusing, and a bit boring to be honest. It actually managed to make a fly-by of a dragon unimpressive. The graphics look crisp, with excellent details in the environment. However, because of that "busyness" the game could use a stronger indicator when you "notice" something in the environment. Sound in combat and environmental are spotty, and lack impact. Some of these characters are completely cringe. Hope better ones come along, because I can't get invested in them so far. Dialogue is weak, and humor doesn't land. I can enjoy narrative games, and I was looking forward to this title, but frankly, I was bored. I couldn't get into the narrative, and the beautiful environments couldn't alleviate it.
