I had Tone 9 as my ringtone when I had this phone. My first phone and I’ve had the same phone number since. I cried when they didn’t make it anymore.

Back when my LG Lotus was active on the Sprint network, I had used a website to get sound files downloaded into the Lotus memory folder where ringtone sounds are stored, via special text messages with attachments. I could also use those sound files as alarm tones. It was really great having that flexibility. Of course, with those days long gone... is there any other way to load those files into the phone's memory?

The LG Lotus Elite made a number of improvements over the original Lotus LX 600. Better screens & keyboard. More rugged build, especially with the hinge. But quite a bit heavier.

Does this phone use a sim card? If not, how would I go about unlocking it/using it with my service? I just purchased one from mercari and would like to use it instead of keeping it as a collector's item

Sadly you can't Sprint is now part of T-Mobile

No SIM card. This is really old CDMA on 3G. Sadly, phones like this are now no longer feasible on most carriers. There's also not a lot of interest in this old tech, because the processors were so slow compared to phones of today. The Elite has a better sound processor for wired & wireless headsets over the original LX. But the LX sounds like it has slightly better external speakers. I use mine as a very convenient travel alarm. And it doubles as a back up audio media player.

Actually it was the other way around. Blackberry came out first. While the Lotus had the better build factor and nice flip lid, the Blackberry had a far better operating system.
