  • A new EU5 2.2-litre diesel engine replaces the EU4 2.4-litre diesel for 2011, bringing new levels of performance and refinement to the Defender for 2012. The smaller capacity engine delivers the same power, torque and economy as its outgoing sister but makes this the cleanest Land Rover Defender yet produced. In EU5 markets, the new engine comes with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to ensure the lowest possible levels of regulated emissions.
    Following a major upgrade in 2007 which included a new facia and six-speed manual transmission, the Defender's specification has been further improved for 2012. In addition to the existing 'S' and 'SE' trim levels, there are five new option packs, new alloy wheels, ventilated discs on all variants and a number of detail improvements to the interior. Three speed-limiting options will also be offered to fleet users wanting to gain more effective control of fuel costs.
    The Defender can trace its roots back to 1948 and during that period Land Rovers have earned a reputation as the most rugged and versatile off-road vehicles in the world. Since 2002, the Defender has consistently sold an average of 25,000 units a year worldwide. Retail and utility customers, armed forces and NGOs in over 100 countries believe that the Defender's off-road ability, durability and towing capability are still head and shoulders above the competition. Such a unique combination of attributes explains why this legendary vehicle commands such exceptionally high standards of customer loyalty.

    Yes I know many people who have had a Defender with the Transit Engine in. Many suffer from recurrent electrical problems fuel pressure sensors and lack of power.

    My beauty defender just like this 1 above will be shinning and running unlike + crap 4x4 that become obsolete and hard to maintain in a few years . Yea punks ENVEY LAND ROVER , cuz it wont become obsolete unlike old jeeps and toyotas at the end of the civilized world . That is something that we Land Rover owners can brag , that we find it easy to maintain those beauties and keep running it every day even decades and decades after it's production have ceased . Thats why is an atemporal vehicle cuz it never becomes obsolete specialy at the end of the world .

    can some explain if a new defender will ever be sold here in the USA? why can nt a 2012 defender be purchased, here in California?

  • @boberson33
    @boberson33 11 років тому

    They don't sell the Defender in America, however, the Wrangler Rubicon stock still costs more than the Defender fully loaded.

    So do I and it never lets me down. I own a V8 90 it goes really well and has no electrics to go wrong. Parts are cheap and the carburettors on it are simple and dont go wrong. I was looking at V8 developments the other day and I could put a new 4.6 stage 3 in it for reasonable cash. Id still rather do that than buy a new one.

    Apparently they will be going with a 2.0 litre engine for the new Defender. Power and torque output has been the same for many years though. Not sure if that is enough though... :\

    They're NOT ending production, that was just a rumor, however, in 2014 or 2015, they will completely change the design for safety standards, and it may never be the same SUV again :,(

    I dont disagree its a great vehicle. Ive had several and still do. But you cannot get the overall build quality bolting and rivetting together hundreds of panels, that you can get with a moncoque construction.Why do you think the range rover and discovery have changed so radically over the last ten years. The defender will change, because in production terms its very expensive to put a car like this together on a modern production line. The new ones with the ford transit engine are unreliable.

  • @isaillis

    Thanks for the info, well that 's not good news for any new car buyer, considering one have to pay A50,000 to get one in Australia.
    That's a lot money.

  • @boberson33
    @boberson33 11 років тому

    Really? Because all the related views of the defender show them going offroad, even for you thats a bit of a stretch, for someone who can't even spell "Caramel", and Rubicon $30,695 STARTING AT MSRP, the Defender is actually more associated with vehicles that are design to be more rugged than comfortable or refined, a real suv instead of glorified minivan or "crossover"

    If Land Rover must use engines from Ford and cant build them themselves (not sure why they managed ok for over 50 years)
    Why cant they give us the Duratorque 3.2?
    This is one of the new options of engine in the Ford Ranger and at leasted they get the option between the 2.2 and 3.2 engine.
    I know that the bhp is the same as before and the same before that which was the td5 but this goes back to 1998 so thats 15 years with the same bhp/torque.
    I dont think Land Rover give a shit about the Defender

  • @boberson33
    @boberson33 11 років тому

    It's either Ford or Jaguar, and I know you don't wan't a Jaguar engine if you are relying on a daily driver, that's not even debatable.

    The new cherokee has a diesel and in 2015 Wrangler will have that option. The Jeep wrangler rubicon comes with rear lockers and solid axels. THe new defenders never even see offroad. The only people who can afford theses things are wealthy business men and rich soccer moms. They are not going to want to spill there carmel mocha frappuccino while going over rocks.

  • @PillSharks
    @PillSharks 11 років тому

    I would think the winch on the front is needed when its pulling a 3.5 tons of trailer to get it moving thanks to the stupid little 2.2.
    Land rover must be the only car company to go backwards with engines.

    They say that the current defender will not cope with the new laws and regulation on emissions and safety for the EU hence why they are creating a new model and why the current defender is not available in USA. Load of crap! I got hit (In my wifes toyota yaris) by a defender last month on the lanes near my home, the defender had zero marks or damage and my wifes car spent 3 weeks in the garage and £3000 later its been returned. I was stationary and Landy wasn't doing mega speed.

  • @Harker436
    @Harker436 12 років тому

    They can stop making them because in the modern age they are rubbish.Bad build quality, unreliable electrics, thirsty, heavy, high road tax. The old defenders are more reliable and easier to maintain. Despite years of production they still only put a single coat of paint on the chassis which frankly is a joke, especially with the rust proofing technology around today. They could have made the defender a better vehicle. And for the list price of a new CSW, there are much better options out there.

    Totally disagree, you mention build quality, Lets look at Nissan nivarra (Or what ever its called) Worst build quality I have ever seen! Can not match defender off road. People who buy a defender as a tool do so because its the only vehicle that can cope with the job. People who buy a defender as a family car ill spend there life bleating and moaning about it! want goo off road and work your vehicle get a defender, want take ur kids school but dont wana get stuck when it snow get a freelander
