This brings into mind the common saying with a twist: Be careful what you practice for. These defense exercises promote a truly ridiculous and even idiotic mind set that Taiwan can withstand and prevail in a military confrontation with China with America’s backing. My advice to my Taiwanese compatriots look at what has happened in Ukraine. Ask yourselves are the Ukrainians better off being a pawn of US hegemony? Ukraine is down to its last straw - the possible conscription of its 18 yrs old, in order to prolong a war that it has already lost. I hope I wont hear the saying “fight China down to the last Taiwanese.”

The difference is that Ukrainians are a different ethnicity from the Russians who’ll most if not all Taiwanese can trace ancestry to mainland China. Even the indigenous austronesian peoples who can from yunnan, guangxi and guangdong. Taiwan stands as the last hope of democracy in China as the last bastion of the Republic of China.

@@BravoCheesecake What universe are you from? The SMO was never intended to conquer Ukraine. No, Russians are not stupid to want to occupy and rule a hostile country. When all of this is done Russian will be content to keep the four Russian speaking eastern oblasts they have occupied. Ukraine will emerge from this conflict as a Rump State, a quarter or more of its territory lost, its infrastructure devastated (current estimate of reconstruction cost of nearly 0.5 trillion dollars), its population will crash by some estimates 30% or more in the next several decades. According to the World Bank, the Russian economy far from collapsing grew by 3.2-3.4% in 2023-24. So again what universe are you from? Or maybe you are just too lazy to stop consuming propaganda and do some factual research.

"Taiwan stands as the last hope of democracy in China". That is too rich. A "democracy" whose current executive branch does NOT have support of a majority of its electorate and resists oversight by the National Assembly, which does represent ALL of Taiwan's electorate. A democracy whose politicians exhibit little to no understanding of world history or American foreign policy or political system. They PHYSICALLY fight when dealing irreconcilable positions. Many are demonstrably corrupt and a few are apparent stooges of the CIA. It is truly tragic when Taiwan is believed to be last hope of democracy of China
