I think the theory is that these sea lions JUST relatively recently learned/taught themselves how to corner the tuna in the shallows. In addition, I had heard (nat geo? shark week?) that nor, for the first time, very large Tiger sharks have begun using Galapagos as a 'feeding stop'. Tiger sharks are highly migratory, so it's not sure where they're originating from or why they've suddenly discovered this place. That being said, large tigers can easily feed on any other marine creature in and around the islands (the iguanas, the sea lions, the flightless sea birds and also those galapgos sharks.)
Galapagos sharks were a major PITA on Ascension Island! If you found a place to fish with no sharks you had about 10-15 minutes from the time you caught a fish until they showed up. If you hooked a fish over 10 lbs it was damned near impossible to get it in before the sharks took it. I lost $400 in lures in my first month. Boat went out trolling for 4-hrs, had 14 strikes, lost 9 lures at $50 - $70 ea. and landed 1 ea. 25 lb. yellowfin tuna. It was common to have 30-50 sharks around the boat while trying to reel in a Tuna or Wahoo. 9x out of 10 we ended up losing both fish and lure.

With all due respect I must say something that might seem unappreciative to the filmmakers. The cinematography in your docs. are spot on! What concerns me is seeing tracking tags on wildlife… next… cameras on all “wildlife” …we are the problem not the solution. They never needed us to be and exist.. they just require us to leave them to do what they do. The “wild” is magical .. let it be. P.S. I know you guys that made these documentaries love the subject you are filming. I may be venting a little, where I live the entire earth is stripped barren to grow corn! And there’s cameras everywhere on the few deer that can try to roam free. I know this won’t make sense to most people but I’m ahead of the curve on this one.

The beauty and harsh reality of nature perfectly filmed!
2:42 - I can so relate with the sea lion being so angry, this is me most days in the office!
The sea lions face! 😭🤣
Stunning survival
Fins 'n' flippers flyin' in the foam! 🦭
And this is why i have been subbed to this channel for so long. The shots on wildlife are Breathtaking.
unbelievable footage, those sea lions look like they have been doing those hunting techniques for generations

You should catch these sharks
Sensational!!!!!😎👍🏽
I watched a sealion plow through salmon schooling at the mouth of a remote river. It was amazing. This is so much cooler!
There is no "harmony" in nature, only balance.
Amazing. 🙂👍🏻
Is there a longer and more complete version of this video?
Well of course this is an excerpt from Blue Planet II. I have the DVD and Blu Ray .. These are teasers, go out and buy it! :-)

Anionghanseyo! I love Seoul, I stayed in Suyu!
I'm not a fan of the camera people reactions and commentary cut in with the wildlife footage. Leave that to a making of segment.
This IS from the making of Blue Planet II, if you read the description.

You should show more of the filmteam not so much of wildlife ☹️. So we will get a better impression of your coolness.

"To be so close to something this ferocious and dangerous..." Dude is either talking about a shark or my ex-girlfriend
😄 No, he's talking about the shark being so close to a human!! 😁
This would be so interesting if they didn’t interview people at all…
wOw
I was wondering why there was a thumbnail of an eggplant in my feed. I love sea lions!
Why do you keep showing people?!?
Literally ZERO people care what these people say
That's wildlife harassment. It should be outlawed.
