  • This week kicks off in Ontario after crossing over from Quebec. As I travel west through Canada in my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, I discover a great dispersed campsite en route to Missinaibi Provincial Park. At Missinaibi, I spend a day on the lake in my Kokopelli Pack Raft, and then continue west to Lake Superior, where I do some exploring and enjoy an amazing campsite at Agawa Bay.

    You are in a very special place, Chris! I camped out of a canoe for a week in Missinaibi, 29 years ago, with my then wife. It was great, except for the fishing. The Caddis Flies were hatching EVERWHERE, and so there was too much food for the fish! Luckily, we brought enough food with us to last us the entire week!

    Eight weeks is fine if you are 17 years old. Take it easy on that foot before you make it worse again. Physiotherapists call what you are doing " too much too soon " - take heed.

    That lake at the beginning where you drive alongside the beaver dam and the lake level is right at your shoulder-head level , and the water is leaking underneath the dam on the the track.....well... I was there 3 years ago , about 100 ft or so up the track , the direction you were heading is an entrance at the base of a small hill to your right , you go up the hill and there is a camp spot right on the lake , pretty cool secluded spot.
    Wow to bad you couldn't have done Route de nord , and the Trans Taiga , and all tracks in-between in norther Quebec...some beautiful remote wild camping spots there. There are quite a few north of Lake Superior as well....so many tracks , so little time lol !! Cheers Wild Bill Overloading the Arctic watershed and Taiga of Northern Ontario and Northern Quebec. Never stop exploring.

    Currently I'm living in Western Northern Minnesota a few mile south of Manitoba but will be heading to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and then the North Shore of Lake Superior this weekend. I know you'd love the Minnesota/Michigan Superior coast just as much as it's even nicer than Ontario if that's possible. I got to get one of those rafts for me and the dog, looks like great fun as we miss our 14' Old Town that just can't come with us on the RV.

    FYI, Agawa Bay Campground is right off Highway 17 and is the only trucking route from Sault St. Marie to Wawa. If camping there, be sure to get a site as close to the lake as possible. Only accept an outer edge site by the highway if you enjoy listening to the roar of continuous truck traffic all night long.

    My 1st vehicle was a 1980 CJ7. The rear taillight seemed to like to eat my gas cap. I began to ask every gas station I stopped at if they found a gas cap recently, and they typically would all just hand me a small box of caps to see. Not going to lie, one summer I did build up a 2-3 cap supply, which as I write this I feel a bit glutonous.

    The lost gas cap is a large evaporative loss, and will set a check engine light for evapping too much fuel,so when the CEL illuminates, you know what it is.

    Absolutely great chronicle, this is areas I'm longing to visit.
    The nature in itself is highly reminiscent of my home country, mid/northern Sweden but a little bit more rugged as far as rock shapes and mountain range style goes.
    In contrast to this, no need for backcountry permits to camp here - allowed almost everywhere for a night as long as it isn't in someone's front yard and you aren't littering or destructive.

  • @jasonandrus1981
    @jasonandrus1981 Рік тому +2

    The hesitation could be a coil pack or spark plug or combination of both.... I haven't delt with newer jeeps but those are symptoms I've dealt with on Ford and Nissan and it does seem to be common on Jeep from a little search online.....
    Good luck and enjoy following you on your travels.

    Chris, here is a possibility concerning the jeep hesitation. Do you tend to notice the hesitation when going up/down hills or when accelerating. If so you could be looking at a sporadic wire harness issue. I ran into a similar problem years ago in a jeep Cherokee. The harness coming through the fire wall had warn through and at certain points would effect acceleration especially noticed when heading up/down hill or if I was really pushing the peddle. An old timer checked it out and sure enough some of the wires within the harness were rubbed raw and grounding out from time to time causing a hesitation. This took me over a year to get worked out, but after the harness was replaced all was good. Your rig has plenty of punishment logged. Check this out.. good luck

    Geography in Ontario in Toronto-centric. Northern Ontario for many Torontonians is anything two hours north of the city by car, but most other people consider the French River as the north-south demarcation point. Agawa Bay and Missinaibi are considered to be in northern Ontario. Eastern Ontario is generally everything east of the Greater Toronto Area and south of the Ottawa River. (It's much like New York State where just about everything other than New York City and Long Island is called "Upstate" New York.

    I forgot to put my cap back on after filling up with a jerry can at a rest area and had all sorts of issues till I caught it and put in back on. After an undetermined miles it straighten out. I thought my transmission was failing out between Van Horn and El Paso, needless to say what a relief that it was just a un capped tank.

      Depends on the system but some gas tank caps seal the system to maintain pressure. The Check Engine Light came on in the middle of nowhere and was because a full-service gas station attendant didn't put the cap on properly.
