      Hello Takashii, Nice video. I like your style. My favorite style was the woman with the pink sweater and flower pants from Uniqlo Australia. I'm like her, i like to balance dark colors with a few bright ones. Thank you for sharing these videos. I like to practice listening to Japanese. I'm in Tokyo right now and have been here for a week long vacation. I'm from America and let me tell you...Americans have NO style compared to the Japanese. I absolutely love people watching here in Tokyo when I'm walking around. A lot of people here are so well put together, neat, clean and stylish. A lot of people here take their appearance very seriously almost like an art form. I appreciate it so much and will be very sad to leave soon back to my city in Florida where almost no one stands out. I believe ones fashion is a reflection of their character and soul. Japan has a lot of both those things.

    First of all, thank you for the interesting interviews and thank you to the interesting people who were interviewed. The most interesting aspect for me was in fact, hearing Japanese conversation about the subject of clothes and fashion!
    I thought the comments on how Korean "flashy" style, was currently "in vogue" was interesting to hear and no doubt a reflection of that nation's vibrant culture. Myself, I've always found the minimalist but tasteful, Japanese style (coincidentally the style Takashii prefers too), to be my favourite and another area of Japan I appreciate a lot.
    It was nice to hear UniGlo is considered a good choice. I also admire Muji for the same reason. Possibly there are other Japanese brands that promote a minimalist or tasteful aesthetic?
    For example, the small but tasteful detail in Sashiko 刺し子 , is for me to be understated but uplifting in effect.

    That Korean girl has actually express what I thought about Japanese and Korean fashion. Koreans are good in fashion but I've notice they follow a trend or their celebrities fashion which makes them all end up doing the same fashion. Like there's no individual distinctive.
    Meanwhile for Japanese everyone have their own style. You can differ them from one another. Sometimes Japanese fashion can be extreme and can only be done in Japan.

    One thing I found interesting in Japan was the amount of "twinning." People out with their friends in exactly the same outfit. The contrast of conformity of men in suits, women in formal skirts, and students in uniform with some of the more out-there styles was really interesting to me too. Most everyone was way better dressed than where I'm from, though! Here most people wear t-shirts and either simple blue jeans, sweatpants, yoga pants, or even pajamas. Great video Takashii.

    Such a great video! Really enjoyed the window into Japanese fashion as someone who loves fashion but hella cheap 😂 The most expensive item I own are my doc martins at £159 and I got that with a giftcard I got from work for working there 5 years 😭 on my own I’ve never spent more than £100 on a piece of clothing. I’m always trying to save for something else (recently a new guitar as my 12year old one died, or holidays - currently saving for Japan 2024), so I always wonder how anyone can afford fancy clothes. Power to ya

    I'm a 37 year old white man from the UK, music has influenced what I wear from about 12 years old. So lots of band tshirts and black clothes in general. As I've grown up I'm more into my favourite colours like Burgundy, Grey and still some black. I think its important to know what colours suit you as I went for years without caring until my 30's. It's also important to wear what you can afford, Im not rich so thats why I just bought a jumper from SUTSU and not BAPE. It's also important for me to attract the right woman and not someone too materialistic. On another note I think Japan has more of a pressure for you to buy fashionable items than the UK, especially in city areas anyway.

    people from japan have a unique fashion style, just like it is in south korea and china, but yours are better and more cultural, while south korea has become more americanized, you still keep the tradition through small details !!!

    Thank you for your insightful videos! I am a huge fan of Japanese cinema and I noticed many Japanese films and also anime depict bullying among young people in middle school and high school. I have always wondered if bullying really is a big problem in Japan or if this is just for dramatic affect. It would be really interesting if you did a video on this topic. Just a suggestion. Love your videos!

    I get the feeling Thrift Stores in the US and Japan are very different. A thrift store in the US are typically run by a non-profit org that sells donated items. And the price of the items reflects that in their low cost. It sounds like even those who shop at thrift stores are dropping big bucks on what they are wearing! I’ve never in my 60 years have spent as much as they have on any of those clothing items. $500-$700 on a jacket or whatever … yikes! And I still manage to dress nicer than many friends or people in general. Nothing but Ralph Lauren? Phew! Even if I was a millionaire I can’t see myself spending that kind of $. I’ve been told I have modest yet stylish taste. I like that :-)

    • @DanielleBaylor
      @DanielleBaylor Рік тому +6

      Yes the prices on the thrift store items threw me off. When I go to the thrift store I don't expect to spend more than $20 on one single clothing item. But there's thrift stores and then there's vintage shops, so I wonder if they're speaking more of novelty vintage shops

    • @middleclassic
      @middleclassic Рік тому +3

      @@DanielleBaylor Yeah good point. Here in Long Beach at the Veterans swap meet I remember seeing buyers from Japan going through and at times would clear out entire stalls of vintage clothing to take back to Japan for just such high end shops. So I suspect you are correct.

    • @msrrf1
      @msrrf1 Рік тому +1

      Well…in the States, it may depend on where you live but there’s a difference, in some cities, between thrift stores and “vintage/consignment” stores. The thrift stores, run by non-profits, sell donated items for low prices. Thrift stores may happen to have vintage pieces that people have donated. But vintage and consignment stores are generally for profit. They may find or buy things that people have sold to them. Items sold at these stores, like period pieces or whatnot, are very expensive.

      I believe “thrift shops” in Japan is probably equivalent to “boutique” shops in the states

      Vintage shops are here in America with large price tags on old stuff. I often go to Thrift shops looking for vintage stuff that hasn't been snagged up by the Vintage store pickers before they mark them up!
