I came to US in the late 1981. First I went to school to learn. No one helped me to go on with everyday living. I had studied real hard by myself while worked part time. It was not easy when you could speak English. I’m saying this, one must speak English I order to live in US.

OMG the starvation nightmare at Teipei airport 🤣 I experienced the same, 8h there. Lucky I met khmer there and helped me to transfer my flight too. I had to transfer twice 🤣🤣🤣🤣 second transfer was hilarious, I got lost, the immigration officers had to look for me and escorted me to their office and flight kekeke. A week after I arrived, got a call from police. I didn't understand a thing and they won't tell me what was going on till we got there(lost passport). It was nerve racking. There I met the kindest and nicest cop ever. He talked to me slowly so I could understand then he provided me with info about schools and helps. I went to ESL school for 3 months and was able to communicate and landed a job. Trust me, Those schools are worth it. When I was at it, I took a bunches of high school courses (while working) and ended up with high school diploma within 6 months. Maybe different in US, I'm from Canada.

In order to come to US, you need to have someone sponsored you as a family member. But, it takes more than 10 years. Or married someone that lives in US or come as a student to get a PhD or study medicine, American will grant you a resident. Or American company sponsors you as work visa or you find someone who sponsors their relative, but you take their name. Before American has a lottery that you can apply, but I don't know about now. Or come to the US as a foreign student and find a girl friend to fall in love with her and marry her. Or ask for political asylum.
