    He finishes: "PS: my deepest thanks to the composer Philippe Hurel, his teacher for one year at IRCAM and his lifelong friend, for sharing a few last moments of emotion and analysis of the character, his career and his legacy, and also thank you to the many messages of support such as Catherine Bolzinger (vocal ensemble Strass Voice) by e-mail, not to mention the other major professor, composer Ivan Fedele".

    Hi inci! I put up a link in the description to Jean Henri Huber (with further contact information if one wish to write him). He writes obituaries on modern composers and on modern music in general. What he writes is respectful all the way, in fact it only praises the composer and his music. His tribute seems honest and credible (at least to me).

    His music reminds me of a kaleidoscope. Someone mentioned that he had suffered with bipolar disease; this is the manic side. I am interested to see if he wrote anything from the other side, although I doubt it because my father had the same disease and there were times when he spent weeks in bed when he was down. It is brilliant stuff.

      Why did he put it in? I think...because the concept itself of this Work(Vertigo) is actually based on Hitchcock's movie 'Vertigo'(The Artwork also resembles the one at the beginning of Hitchcock's film.). Bertrand humorously quoted Bernard Hermann's famous film score for Psycho, which also contributed to Hitchcock's music.(Hermann also took part in composing for Vertigo.)

  • @JohnBorstlap
    @JohnBorstlap Рік тому

    It's not music, it's sonic art and as such, of the better kind - better than, for instance, Boulez, or Haas or Murail. This is a piece full of conflict and violence, sonic art trying to become music because it uses the rhetoric of musical processes. But the notes are mostly defined by structuralist, mechanical processes, not by musical processes. But the gestures are dramatic, borrowing from music. Compared with, for instance, PB's Eclats Mutiples, which is quite boring and empty in comparison, this Vertigo is really dramatic (borrowing a fragment from the track of Hitchcock's horror movie 'Psycho'). Bertrand committed suicide and maybe in this piece one can hear a very mixed-up psyche, it is full of angst. What would he have written if he had allowed himself to write music instead? Something like Mahler? But then he would have had to break with the french modernist establishment which provided him with performances etc.
