Hi Matt, I drove the Support Truck for The Melbourne Grammar School Orchestra Steam Train Tour of Victoria and Southern New South Wales last December 2022. Wycheproof was the first evening Concert performance of the Tour in the lovely Town Hall. We fed the boys and staff at the Bakery just a couple of doors down the street from the Hall. I thought Schoolboy rowers could eat, well those Orchestra boys were devouring that Lasagne dinner at a rate to give any rowers a run for their money! 😂 Wycheproof is friendly town, and a great place to visit and stay while exploring the Southern parts of the Mallee country. Great video! Mark from Melbourne Grammar School Maintenance Department
I didn't know for years either until I saw a UA-cam video on Wycheproof, ever since I'd wanted to visit myself and get some footage! Rockhampton is notably the more major street running railway in Australia and it's on the list to visit next! Matt - M&S Trains
The cars you may have seen on Narrow Gauge would not have been Overland cars, or certainly not like you see here. These are the genuine Overland air-conditioned cars that were used on the Broad Gauge between Melbourne and Adelaide. These are owned and maintained by 707 Operations.
Awesome work - great captures! I’ve seen a freight train travel down Denison Street in Rockhampton but super keen to see the same in Wycheproof. Hopefully one day but in the meanwhile, this video was very satisfying. 👌
Thanks mate! Rockhampton would be awesome for it and definitely on my list of locations to travel too. Wycheproof is worth the trip from Adelaide, but next time I think the Grainlander would be a cool way to make the journey. Matt - M&S Trains
I seem to believe this would never work in Sydney. Even with a fenced off rail corridor there is countless incidents of trespassers doing stupid things. Now imagine a situation where they are able to go up close to trains in the middle of a road.
Yes, great for a small town with limited road traffic and not many rail movements. Not worth the hassle of incidents and delays in a major towns or cities. Matt - M&S Trains
Melbourne has trams running in its streets. For drivers it’s about care and awareness. Not looking at your phone or putting on makeup while driving-that’s the safety risks. The things I see Melb drivers doing is unbelievable. Particularly women doing there hair and make up and talking on the phone
my dad, who drove victorian trains used to tell us kids about wycheproof and koondrook. the koondrook line closed a long time ago. the rocky line is impressive. what is the third line you mentioned?
Very cool. The kids were out for the 707Ops run through the main street, and they loved it. Be a different world growing up out in the country. The third line is a sugar cane railway in Queensland north of Cairns. I've seen footage from it before, but I believe trains are rare runners down the line. Matt - M&S Trains
707 Operations run the excursions. Looks like going by their website there's no more excursions through Wycheproof this year but next year they've got one in May. Manangatang, Quambatook & Swan Hill all have tours operating before that one different lines. www.707operations.com.au/ Matt - M&S Trains
I wonder!! given the nutters driving on our roads today, (thinking of two in particular, both blatantly refusing to move over to let emergency services through, a Fire Truck and an Ambulance) *Surely tis only a matter of time until some moron tries to 'brake check a train! * ..... never say never guys
Like the history of trains..has to be one of my trip visits that place

WOW, magnificent street running trains. I will have to place this on my list to visit, love it, keep up the great videos work
Well worth the visit! If you get the chance the Grainlander would be cool way to visit Wycheproof.

Great video Matt. Really enjoyed that with a special treat at the end.
Thanks mate! Nothing like some tender first steam action! Glad you enjoyed the video.

Very neat place! I didn't know there was any street running in Australia.

Check out Denison Street, Rockhampton, Qld.
There were 2, but I think Wycheproof line is closed now due to all the witches.
@@jasonh.8754 Wychproof is definitely still operational, considering this video was filmed LAST MONTH.

As always - thank you for sharing this.😊
And as always thanks for watching mate! Glad you enjoyed the video.

Very Nice Thank You.
Thank you too!

Very good video indeed. Was nice to see the overland carrages in use on a broad guage network given iv only ever seen them on narrow guage. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!

@@tobys_transport_videos my mistake, standard guage is what i ment. Travelled on the overland from adelaide to melbourne once. Was a lovely trip.

@@MS_Trains yes, the Grainlander is on my shortlist too!

Great video! K167 looking very neglected.
Thanks Patrick. It really isn't looking as great as it once did. Few patch ups and some paint and she'll look sweet as!

Trains cruising down the streets 😉
Been thinking of doing a video on Wycheproof for a while myself, nice job
Thanks, mate!
You'd be well equipped to do so, and it's a nice rare spot. Look forward to watching when you get around to it.

Fantastic Video Mate!
Thanks, mate! Glad you enjoyed it.

I dare say from an economic stand point its not exactly a bad idea to integrate roads and rail in some form.

I see that they get plenty of graffiti. Every car was tagged.
Yes, typically happens in Melbourne when they're parked up.

Apparently trains used to run down the main street of Koondrook also.
Yes, they did. It's very cool that one of the lines survived.

@@MS_Trains Yes. Sadly I believe the Yanac line is gone? Branched off from Nhill I think.
