I struggled putting the Apple Watch on in the Apple Store - I must have tried 5 different watches and really needed a ton of help in the Apple Store (Victor NY).
Here are 4 easy steps that anyone with the Apple Watch and Sport band can use to put on the watch without using a second hand or table for support.
4 steps to put on an Apple Watch
----
1. Lay the watch on top of your wrist (palm down) and grab the notch with your middle finger
2. Pinch the hole side strap with your index finger and thumb and full it towards your middle finger
3. Press your thumb into the strap to connect the two sides
4. Tuck the excess strap into the hole where your middle finger was located
Quickly remove (careful of pick pockets!)

1. Grab the middle part between your index finger and thumb and pull apart
2. Put your watch on your power connector to recharge

It felt weird searching for a video that explains how to put it on the easiest way. I was struggling with it too. But this little trick helps a lot and the fear of letting the watch drop while at it. 🤣

This was actually oddly helpful lol, I just got my Apple Watch today and have been having a hell of a time trying to come up with a quick way of fastening the sport band without having to rest it on may leg, thanks!!
Great! I've had to re-adjust my Apple watch anytime I exercise, since I get better heart rate measurements, and it doesn't flop around as much. This one hand technique helps a ton in those fast paced situations (i.e. being on the starting line for ultimate frisbee, or trying to catch up with my running pace group!)

Thank you for this video. Apple store just gives you the box and says see you later without explaining anything. I knew there had to be a simple way to put this thing on without putting the watch facedown on the other leg. Great video

THANK YOU so much for this video. I have had my Apple Watch for almost a week and I really like it. But trying to put the band on made me feel like a moron. -This is so simple! Who ever knew there was another great use for that finger!
YES! Great work David. Sometimes it takes time to figure out the easiest way to do something. I use this technique all the time on my runs. I wear daily at the 3rd notch, but during a run I don't like it moving around, so I tighten to the 2nd notch.

I don't have an Apple watch but I have a FitBit blaze and bought an awesome sport band. I was thrying to thread the loop first then pull it tight enough to insert the pin in the hole I wanted. It was nearly impossible. Didn'y know you thread after. Thanks. Now it takes me a few seconds.

Way to go, Apple, designing a watch strap so awkward that you need UA-cam tutorials to use them. Thought I was going senile when I struggled with the strap in the Apple store, but no, it's Apple innovating something that has worked fine for hundreds of years.
Try another band.
3 and a half years. Still a good video! Just got an Apple Watch and figuring how to wear it with one hand rofl. It was embarrassing in the apple store!

It is tricky at first because you can put the bands on backwards and it will still works because you can change the crown orientation in settings and wear it to the left or right

I dropped my AW4 some time ago (pushed it from my nightstand while searching for it in the dark) and while it is still working, the glas is broken and the display has some faulty pixels, repairing costs more than the watch is worth. It has the sport loop band.
Today I got my new AW5 with the sport band - which I never used before. First I only unpacked the watch and put the sport loop to it. Later I put the new sport band on the AW4 - wanted to go for a run and the AW5 was still charging plus not set up properly yet, so I wanted to use the AW4.
And what happened on the first attempt to put the AW4 with the sport band on my wrist? I dropped it again. No further damage, but dammit, if this had happened to my new AW5.....
I almost dropped it again when I took the band of - pulled the end out of the opening thereby the pin also unlocked. I could capture it, but still ....
Holding a 500+EUR device in a hole with the tip of your middle finger on one side to create tension while guiding it with your thumb and index finger on the other side and if you slip out of the hole the sudden tension release might make it slip on the other side, too..... no, I'm too clumsy for that. It will work 500 times. but some day in a year or so, it won't and I will drop it again.
Incredibly stupid construction. So here I am with my new band and I already know that the new watch will be either on the old sport loop band or on a leather band.
It does take some dexterity. Get a different band and you'll avoid that pitfall. If you're unsteady, only adjust your watch over a bed, couch, or carpet. Don't put your watch on a nightstand, I put mine on the floor so it can't drop.
I can’t count the amount of times my Apple Watch fell off while walking because I strapped it on wrong 🤦🏽♀️

That’s why my Apple Watch felt weird to wear. I put the wrist bands on completely wrong. I had the long part of the band sticking out and I knew that wasn’t right especially since my wrist is small and I had to put it on the smallest size.
Now you can just buy a solo loop band and it solves every problem.
