I had hell of time configuring the ftdx10 for n1mm due to software always make radio qsk. Not bk like in the radio itself. After about 8 hours I figured it out and made a video. Thanks for the 891 help Om. More time saved.
I just subscribed because after watching 3 of your videos I found that I could understand and trust everything you said. It is all good, clear, complete, knowledgeable, common sense content interspersed with a light bit of honest humor. I've grown weary of watching videos filled with incorrect info produced by people who have no idea what they are talking about yet think they have something to offer others. They should be commenting on wrestling, not RF. Yours is the good stuff. You know radio, and you share your knowledge. Thank you. Victory for Ukraine!
Thanks Linus! I got it all working now thanks to you! I actually had a problem with the computer saying that COM4 wasn't working but after a restart, all is well and I'm able to send CW! I'm looking forward to using the 891 for POTA now! 73, George N2GA
Thanks for sharing good news George! The '891 is a hard-to-beat radio when portability and 100W output is required in one place! :) And I like a very low-noise receiver too. CU on the bands! 73! Linas LY2H
One more thing to add on N1MM and the FT-891 - the N1MM memory function message keys seem to bypass the FT-891's "Break-in Off" setting. The N1MM WILL transmit CW to your antenna despite having break-in turned off.. I attached a dummy load after the radio crowbar'd itself off after sensing a high swr. Just saying be careful when first trying the N1MM''s sending ability. Other than that everything went exactly to your video's instructions. thanks again wb3gbl rick in VA
Thank you Paul! If you right-click on the any of F buttons while in the Entry window, the script of all F-messages appears and is available for editing. Normally, all these messages are pre-recorded by the logger itself (automatically recognizing your callsign, your correspondent’s callsign, exchange info from your station/contest data and log entry window), you only need editing if creating your own original message, or need to change the script syntax in order to run the logger with some types of radios (like KX2, QCX, etc). HTH, 73! Linas LY2H
Hi, not at the same time, really, but interchangeably. At any given moment, I can run CW either from my computer macros in the N1MM logger through the DTR line, or from my paddles through the transceiver built-in keyer. These two lines does not exclude each other. HTH, 73! Linas LY2H
It appears like there is some sort of adapter/white tiny box in series with the USB cable coming from the FT-891. Can't the USB cable FT-891 go directly into the computer's USB connector? Do you need or have a choke on this cable? tnx in advance
Hello, thanks for watching! The white box is just a USB Hub, nothing more :). My tablet PC has got only 1 USB port, and I need to connect at least 3 users: my transceiver, my wireless mini-keyboard and my Digilink sound card interface. It could be any hub, I guess, just rugged enough. Cheaper hubs sometimes have bad mechanical contacts inside. Yes, you can connect the USB cable from the FT-891 directly to your PC if it has got enough of comports :). Please note, the FT-891 transceiver has got NO internal USB- soundcard , so the USB cable will only provide you with the CAT control functionality, no sound interfacing. If you’d like to operate digital modes, you need a sperate wiring between the RTTY/DATA ports on the radio and the computer soundcard, or, best of all, the USB comport via the external USB-sound card. The tiny interface devices , like Digilink (in my case) or Digirig, or any other external soundcard will do the job. The RF chokes are always welcome on any cable! (Even if I don’t have one on my radio-to-computer cable :)). HTH, 73! LInas LY2H
Hi Linas, I installed these drivers required but... Still can't see them in Device Manager. I have a Dell Laptop with win 11. I tried it several times and... Still nothing. 73 dr Irek SP3SUX
Sorry to hear that Irek… I’m not an expert on Windows 11 , but it could be that you were checking the Device Manager for drivers WITHOUT the radio connected to the computer? If so, the drivers would not be shown and that is normal. Normally you see the drivers of only those devices which are connected to the computer. If there is no drivers shown with the radio connected, than the drivers most probably are not installed. Your Dell most probably is of 64-bit system , so I would make sure if I was installing the drivers for the 64-bit, not 32-bit system. HTH, Good Luck and thanks for watching! 73! Linas LY2H

Linas,
I love your way of operating in the field…. Nice ‘Go Box!’ Great video….

Nice video once more Linas.
Thank You.
Thank you. Very good video. Where in N1MM do you set up the F keys with the CW messages?

How can you use the cw handkeyer at the same time using N1MM. I have notice that you have the cw paddle in your set up. Thanks VY1XY
