“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel-all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.
I absolutely love into the woods because they point out that there is no real villain and that good and evil are just a matter of perspective.
preach
+DeeEll1 same so true and be careful what you wish
Mark Merzweiler True but congress won't let him actually do anything similar to how they didn't let obama do anything albeit for a different reason. at this point I'm more wary of hillary since she is almost as bad as trump but could actually cause some serious damage.
Hillary Clinton is like a fox, sly and sneaky, and she seems to have an Evil era around her.
Donald Trump is a true idiot. Thankfully I only have to choose between a bald-ass and a penguin for president.
ANC and EFF. ugh. Never mind I will vote for D.A.
Natalie Berrisford you know what's pretty evil? boasting that you could kill someone and get away with it, bragging that you could rape someone and get away with it, saying that the only thing keeping the world from a nuclear war is a problem and dehuminizing 99% of the population. So even though hillary isn't my first choice either, I'm still going to vote her over a literal hitler.
For everybody emotionally struggling during quarantine now...
Agree
I never thought this song would be so relevant now than it was back in 2014. That's the power of music and their lyrics.
Stop 😭✌️
Yes
Omg
The best part of this song is the line "maybe we forgot" it just sounds so nice the all the voices harmonising together
ikr!!
Nicola and other stuff YES
and "someone is on your side"
yesss
The whole song is the best part tbh
It's just heavenly when Jack and Little Red come in. Crying just crying
Ik it's beautiful man
I wish they would have included the line from the original song “sometimes people leave you halfway through the wood; others may deceive you, you decide what’s good. You decide alone, but no one is alone” I just feel it pulls the movie together so nicely. I was lucky enough to see this live in Seattle in 2007 and I’ve been remotely obsessed since. 😂
Robyn Waugh didn’t the bakers wife sing that tho
The Baker’s wife sings “Sometimes people leave you halfway through the woods; Do not let it grieve you, no one leaves for good.”
Oh, thank fuck, they didn't have the Giant interrupt them in this version. Oh, that's so satisfying.
Tristan Smith Yeah, they owed us (references aaaaaaaa)
no i was disapointed the giant interuption is my favorite part
Tristan Smith That is what makes it scary and realistic. A giant isn't going to wait for a song to end before appearing.
Tristan Smith agreed
We'll ti a peace this, it is a great theyric deciding ti have it interrupted so thats why it was like that in the movie, but in the soundtrack it was not so that people could hear the end
I LOVE Anna Kendrick's singing voice. Those high notes she can hit are AMAZING
yes!
Anna Kendrick.....she has it all, looks, terrific acting skills and a singing voice to die for
Oh my god yes
Oh God, you know that's right
agreed...she is multiple threats 💖💖💖 so talented as an actor as well as singer...i love this song so much...she delivered it very emotionally well & perfect, im so in love with her...she makes me sexually confused !!! 😅
she Is Amazing
one word to describe she is AMAZING
With Stephen Sondheim’s passing, this song just became so much more heartbreaking, and yet so much more meaningful.
RIP Stephen. We’ll all miss you.
He was actually Jewish so shouldn't it be may his memory be a blessing
@@josieskaggs7299 Perhaps, but you understand what Joseph is getting at. Calm down
@@josieskaggs7299 WHY ARE YOU POINTING OUT THAT HE WAS " JEWISH " ????
Oh god those harmonies at the end slay me
sameee
I don't understand how people are still surprised when James Corden sings super well on Carpool Karaoke.
Agreed
I feel like baker and Cinderella are like parents to jack and red. They are calming the kids. And I love it
Same first time watching it, I was in the middle of a scene so I thought the Cinderella and baker was the mother and father, but then I watch it all the next day
I may have been thinking you guys should just kiss and end this whole movie as Little Red and Jacks Mother and Father...
Oh and technically the baby's too
It took three times of watching this movie and one time of watching it as a high school production to realize that this is not a kids musical. I use to bash this because I hate "kid like" musicals, I'm into Dark emotional musicals like Cabaret, Miss Saigon, Les Mis, etc. But after the third time of watching this I realized that this movie is more powerful then all of them because it actually has a message behind it that's forever relevant. It may not be my favorite musical still, but there's no doubt in my mind that this is a musical that really means something. "Don't you know what's out there in the world?" This whole movie takes us on a journey as if we are kids experiencing the world for the first time (which are the woods), and in the end, we are all grown up, and our mission is to tell the world and the young what we have learned in our life. (hence him telling the story to his son) "children will listen" so much respect for this song as well, beautiful.
I get you. I was never really into theatre and hadn't heard of this production before I got into the theatre program at my school, and when they were telling us about it I was like "Okay, cool, another kid's program," (our fall play before that was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). I was not prepared for how it would effect me, both emotionally and in my life, since it's pretty much what got me hooked on theatre. It was so special being apart of it, and listening to this song now immediately makes me cry. It's such a unique and beautiful musical.
I get you.
So after I heard all the comments on your post about this song I agree with all of yah I’m feeling you all
Yes.
I was the opposite... I really wanted a sweet, magical, enchanting Fairy Tale and so I completely missed the point the first time. I agree with you it is so much more...
In the part where they sing "maybe we forgot" Daniel Huddlestone's harmonizing slays
*Huttlestone
Ikr. It's great.
Was there a pun intended?
Jin Na Jones Thank you. Finally someone who doesn't write only about Anna Kendrick and appreciates the others too...
This scene moved me to the point I shed tears. Gave me so much goosebumps.
Me too! :')
for me too
me too
Rita Maria Mendes da Silva its good
I was going to comment this exact comment. Word for word. That's exactly what I felt. I was quite emotional when i watched this scene and I started crying but smiling.
“They are not alone, no one is alone” SO GOOD!!!
I'm a late teen currently struggling with my parents getting divorced, when I saw this movie and heard this song I somehow felt it talked to me so deeply. I read a bit about the life of Stephen Sondheim and read he had a troubled childhood and a bad relationship with his parents, which moved me to tears to see how with a song you can totally express this feeling, the feeling of being wounded by the people who are supposed to love you the most, the feeling of having a wounded family and all the pain this carries with. But at the end, even if we feel lonely and sad, we're really not alone.
Cinderella:
Mother cannot guide you
Now you're on your own
Only me beside you
Still, you're not alone
No one is alone, truly
No one is alone
LRRH:
I wish...
Cinderella:
I know.
Mother isn't here now
Baker:
Wrong things, right things
Cinderella:
Who knows what she'd say?
Baker:
Who can say what's true?
Cinderella:
Nothing's quite so clear now
Baker:
Do things, fight things
Cinderella:
Feel you've lost your way?
But--
Baker:
You decide, but
Both:
You are not alone
Cinderella:
Believe me,
No one is alone
Baker:
No one is alone
Believe me
Cinderella:
Truly
Both:
People make mistakes
Baker:
Fathers
Cinderella:
Mothers
Both:
People make mistakes
Holding to their own
Thinking they're alone
Cinderella:
Honor their mistakes
Baker:
Fight for their mistakes
Cinderella:
Everybody makes
Both:
One another's terrible mistakes
Witches can be right
Giants can be good
You decide what's right
You decide what's good
Cinderella:
Just remember
Baker:
Just remember
Both:
Someone is on your side
Jack, LRRH:
Our side
Baker, Cinderella:
Our side
Someone else is not
While we're seeing our side
Jack, LRRH:
Our side
Baker, Cinderella:
Our side
All:
Maybe we forgot
They are not alone
No one is alone
Both:
Someone is on your side
No one is alone
Maria Dubowska thanks for the lyrics
thank you !!
geez that's a lot of writing and spaces.
Busting out the most beautiful singing of this while stuffing my face with rice rn

To those who don't know, this song is what helped the movie finally be made. It had been in development hell in the 90s and had various stars in talks to be in the movie and do table reads such as Robin Williams, Martin Short, Billy Crystal, Cher, Steve Martin, Elijah Wood, Bonnie Hunt, Kathy Najimy, even Brendan Fraser. Finally, the movie set in motion to be made when in 2011, Barak Obama was giving a speech for the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and he was remind everyone in his speech "No one is alone". If I remember correctly, I think he was literally quoting from the play. This was when the people that made this movie realized the play had to be shown on the big screen because it's the perfect movie for everyone in this post 9/11 world. This is definitely one of the best and most important songs in the movie.
A friend passed away recently and two people sang this at his funeral. So now I’m here ugly crying at this beautiful song.
Every time I reach this part in the film it makes me realize how many people died in this story... So sad 😞😞😞
THOR Son of Odin same 😢
THOR Son of Odin Same here. Soo sad!!
THOR Son of Odin It is really sad :(
tell yourself that even more people die in the original musical than in the movie

Rest in peace Stephen Sondheim. This song brings me so much comfort and takes me to me place of solace during the rough days. The lyrics are beauty through and though. Thank you and may you rest. No one is alone.
"Someone is on you side" I wish the person on mine would show itself because it's been pretty lonely....
He or she will come... Just wait
I have arrived
thank you awkward guitar stuff

"Maybe we forgot... they are not alone. No one is alone." Such a powerful line.
Anna kendrick, she is to die for.
She is perfect in so many ways
who would've guessed a song from Into The Woods would be the thing to comfort me during Technoblades passing
When Anna hits the high note at 2:34
Sondheim. Gone suddenly, yet gave a career of musicals to behold.
You shall be missed. 1930-2021
2:32 - 2:36 that high note Anna😍
Rest In Peace Sondheim. Thank you for your genius.
Cinderella is talking about herself, and how much she misses her mom.
Little red: I wish...
Cinderella: I know
She knows the pain... Thinking about this made me cry

RIP Stephen Sondheim. Thank you will never be enough. This song became much more meaningful now than it already was. Thing song help me trough the darkest moments of my life, when my father died and when I had bad relationship with my mother for her mistakes that I got to understand later.

Rest In Peace Mr Sondheim
Start a chain:
Mother cannot guide you
Now you're on your own
Only me beside you
Still your not alone
No one is alone
Truly, no one is alone
Into the woods teach parents to think through how they should raise their children.
And teach children to learn to forgive their parent's mistakes for they are just other human beings, people make mistakes.
You decide what's right, you decide what's good
Yep that hit the nail over the head-
May your memory be a blessing, Sondheim ❤
Good bye Stephen. thanks for everything
This hits so different now 😥
I love this song 🎵 ❤ 😭 💕 ♥ 😍 🎵 ❤ 😭 💕 ♥ 😍 🎵 ❤
I love how this song and really this whole story helps us see that it’s all a matter of opinion and point of view. That life can sometimes be hard but it’s what we make of the hard times that really matters. That people we love will leave us physically sometimes but if we love them they will always be in our hearts no matter what. And the four actors in this song did such a good job. Anna Kendrick especially. I love the ending when they all sing together…it’s so beautiful
I listened to this song all the way home after my girlfriend of 2 years broke up with me. I was on vacation to see her, the next day I was heartbroken and felt so abandoned. I cried all the way through security, through the terminal, sitting for my flight, and even the flight home.
Towards the end of the flight, crying through my music and trying to calm down, I was so hungry, so thirsty, so tired but I could eat or drink, heaven forbid sleep, someone touched my arm and made me take my headphones.
The woman who had been sitting next to me the whole flight was handing me a tissue with a smile.
The next hour I talked with her about everything and she offered unconditional love and support, which was literally all I needed after the worst day of my life.
It's been 6 months, I've healed, I've learned my worth and have even entered the dating scene again.
I never would have gotten through that day without the support of a stranger.
You are never alone. No one is alone. There is always someone there for you. Even in the worst places. 💖
aw 😢 this made me cry
As someone who has experienced losing my mother this song leaves me in tears every time. It's beautiful and moving and so heartbreakingly sad. I love it even as it tears me apart with memories.
When Little Red and Jack join in ugh BEST version I actually can't
RIP sondheim❤️
rest in peace, legend!
gosh im so in love with anna kendrick (sexually confused now, hahaha), whatever, this song is really deep & sad, makes me cry every time...especially when i am locked deep into anna's eyes in the song, her delivery is so strong especially when she looks into red's eyes while singing 💖💖💖 i am totally star struck
Ngl this song BREAKS me now. I recently lost my mom & me being 19 an old child & having no dad around. I feel truly alone.
maybe they forget. is literally the best line in the whole song. Love it
Yes, im still listening to this masterpiece
This song really speaks to me because as someone who just graduated highschool I am still struggling with my parents getting a divorce and they decided to involve me and my little sister and I tried my best to keep her away from it and all this time I thought I was alone with my mother constantly always lying to me and my father always lashing out at me I always thought I was alone before I graduated but listening to this song as the situation begins to worsen over time i realize now that I am never truly not alone.
"Maybe we forgot." The harmony!
Rest in peace Stephen Sondheim
Who's here still listening and watching this movie this year?
This movie was so underrated
anna kendrick's voice...amazing.
Rest In Peace, Stephen.
that harmonizing at 2:20 on maybe we forgot is amazing!
Anna D yes it’s a gorgeous moment.. listen to it on the original broadway cast recording and you will melt
I remember watching this on Christmas, and for some reason was in a bad mood, can't even remember why now. I just wanted the film to end so I could stretch me legs. Now I find myself coming back to the music and feeling like I let myself down for not taking the time to just enjoy this masterpiece with people who are dear to me.
Gregory Regret is a waste of time. That's a lesson I'm still trying to learn
This is my favourite song from Into Into The Woods
mine as well.
jupiter exe dude u said into 2 times😅
I like how in the soundtrack version, they get to finish the song without being interrupted by the giant. Hearing how the song finishes just sounds so beautiful. Yesterday, my parents and I went to see a college production on the play and in their version, they decided to let the actors finish the song. I know having the ending interrupted is supposed to make something seem more realistic and put the audience at the edge of their seats. But hearing that final “No one is alone” is just so beautifully done. It’s enough to make it my favorite part of the song.
i've watched the movie for 7 times now. still crying at this part
I performed in Into the Woods last week as Jack and oh my goodness it's so difficult to hold back to tears when performing this song
Rest in peace.
Rest easy Stephen 😭😭😭
This movie is amazing. Never fails to pull on my heart strings.
I love this song so much. I lost my mom a 8 months ago and Mother’s Day is coming up. This song helps me realize that there are so many people going through the same thing as I am. SIDE NOTE: everyone in this story (the main characters, not including the baby) lost both their parents and the story has a beautiful meaning behind it which is pretty much what I just said. There are people going through very similar situations and feelings like yours, and you are not alone.
Playing this for our last concert this year. It was supposed to be a surprise but we are playing it all together. I’m listening to it and almost sobbing. It’s so pretty.
This is literally the melody of "The Candy Man" from Willy Wonka. Doesn't make it any less beautiful, but I can't stop thinking about it.
Kind of reminds me of Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas.
I'm crying every time when I hear this song. It's beautiful! I love it!
Just finished this movie for the second time and this song is truly outstanding. I think it's really easy to get consumed and lost by your shame - whatever it is that makes you feel unworthy of being alive - that it feels so incredibly uplifting to have a song which articulates this sense of hope.
It's a feeling that I've felt even more strongly during the pandemic and lockdown, ruminating on the past and things I wish I could have done differently.
Sometimes I think it's better to just accept that you did the best you could at that moment in time. And there's something truly exciting about starting over, even if it's totally overwhelming and the fear of what if, failure and rejection.
What makes this song so beautiful and poignant is it's vulnerability, it reminds us to have the courage to be who we are no matter where we come from or what we've done or the way you've been treated by anyone else. You are enough. Sending you love and courage wherever you are on your path in life 🙏
oh my gosh that harmony at 2:20
When i moved away from mmy family and lived alone i was very sad this song gave me strength when i felt there was none my father told me before i was born that he had a dream of a child crying in the woods it was me the irony of finding this musical andnits basic but very real truth no one is alone 🥹
I will never understand the People magazine: James Corden is the sexiest man alive, and here's the proof.
What is sexier than a song and smile full of emotional support?

i love the song and Anna Kendrick has a beautiful voice
Thank you, Mr. Sondheim, you've done it again ! Kudos!

Such a beautiful song!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
"No One is Alone" such a poignant message in a post 9-11 world.
I love the harmony in the last half of the song. It’s so beautiful to listen to
I'm sorry but when Red and Jack came in with "our side" I just started bawling
2:23 this harmony THIS HARMONY
I lost my father 7 years ago so it makes me feel depressed until now because i feel like it is my fault somehow plus we had to move here in this new town which force me to fit in but still i cant fit in and i started to shut everyone out and locked myself in a room, i keep crying everyday wishing i could do anything to fix my life or the time i once had. But every cry leads me to this song and makes me feel like my father wants me to hear this song..
I like the fact that in the film she is telling the little girl that no one is alone but she is also telling that to her self
1st act is filled with selfishness, but all the characters develop SOOO MUCH!!! Like when they all want everything, then they learn.
This song and this scene were my favorite parts of this beautiful modern classic
I'm not crying - you're crying!
