  • I did a POV drive today upon request, and talked about some of the reasons I think the year 2000ish was the golden age of Hondas.

I bought my 2001 Prelude SH (Black as well) as a second vehicle last week after owning a 97 some 20 years ago. When trying to describe "why" to my friends who don't understand why someone who owns a new'ish very comfortable, very safe SUV would want a 20 year old car like this I found myself talking like a crazy Saab owner does about those cars. You either get it or you don't was basically the best I could muster. I appreciate your thoughts starting around the 5:40 mark, it's everything I've been trying to explain to people about modern cars vs these old Preludes. They're just fun cars to drive. As I was staring up at the bumper of a pickup truck in front of me the other day all I could think was "They'll never make another car like this again".

I can definitely relate. I was about to sell mine just a few days ago. For reasons that i needed the $$ due to not being able to work from covid19.
I took everything out cleaned it, full fledge hardcore every nooks and cranny detail and took pictures. And I just stared at it for a good couple of minutes just admiring it. Then i took it out for a “final drive” before i sell it the next day.
Well that “last drive” made me realize why i can never part ways with it. No its not a “fast” cars in comparison to modern cars today. But the feeling of it, its pure sheer rawness and induction noise it emits at WOT is priceless. Something about it being so analog and simple. The last and few remaining surviving BB6 alive amongst others. I had to keep it. As luck would have it, i ended up qualifying for unemployment and i get to keep my precious beloved Prelude.
Hell I must be one lucky sob, bc even my gf was telling me not to sell it lol. She knows how much I love this car.
I guess if you love it, keep it. It puts a smile on your face and brings about this indescribable feeling that only YOU yourself understand.

No issues at all, no modification needed, it's made to hook up just like stock.

I had a 00 Civic Si and now that I have a Prelude Type S the prelude is just more premium and way more sporty. And I agree more torque as well. I do wish the prelude had a higher redline like the EM1 so I could live in VTEC longer. Great videos, please do another prelude video haha.

Thanks for the video, I agree with a lot of your points about older cars versus newer model "appliances"! Do you have any plans for future mods?

    • @gray25xt
      @gray25xt  4 роки тому +2

You're welcome. Not any plans on the horizon...I did all I wanted to do, I have some videos that chronicle the short shifter, exhaust, and a few other mods. I considered swapping to OBD1 and tuning it with some intake mods added but then my better judgment got a hold of me. I think it's done, just gonna drive it and enjoy.

I own a BMW M4, but I prefer driving the 5th gen Prelude because it is a blast to drive.

I just bought my 17yr old an 01 Prelude. He is having fun learning how to drive a real 5 speed. He is having fun with it so far. He is learning alot of maintenance and repairs. He had a whole lot of first time wrench time on my civic.

I totally agree! Good review. Picking one up for Autocross. Can be daily driven, and tracked. It won't be the fastest, but it's just FUN!

Hey man wanted to shout out to you on a recent vid. Love your fiesta mod reviews and hidden features since I’m planning to get one. You missed one hidden feature though, the ability to change your sync theme if you have sync 3 so that way you can have it as the mustang theme or Ford gt theme 👍. Also wanted to know if you ever considered an aftermarket steering wheel for your fiesta I found some nice flat bottom ones online.

After much searching, I think I have found a good unit with 175000 kms from the year 98, 2.2 VTEC H22A5, 185 hp, with the incredible ATTS.
I am only concerned with the overall reliability of the car. I know that for the motor itself, there is no problem. They are robust and durable.
But, here in Europe, there are not many parts of this model. For example, MANN filter, only manufactures the oil filter, it does not have fuel, air, cabin, or power steering filters.
I would also like to know the reliability of the ATTS.
The unit that I want to acquire, has already changed the steering rack, ATTS sensor, clutch, distribution kit, complete, etc ... That is, this one to drive and enjoy.
    I have owned youngtimers (Volvo 850 T5, Saab 9000 Airflow, Mercedes W124 300CE).
But my heart always wanted a Prelude, and maybe the time has come.
All the more reason after having tried the wonders of the ATTS and the 2.2 VTEC engine and its kick.
Congratulations on your channel, I have learned a lot from Prelude and mechanics in general.
    Cheers

Thanks. It's a great car. I actually just sold mine, too many cars and I want to build another hybrid. But the Prelude is a gentleman among cars for sure.

I have an 01 sh. Had it for 2 years now. 5 speed love it. Sadly now when cold starting it she sputters and revs to about 3.5 rpm for about 5 min then it stops and everything is fine I got to figure out what's wrong with her I'm assuming it's an EGR valve issue but when she's warmed up everything's fine such a fun car to drive when you rev it to 8000 RPM oh everywhere I go I seem to be doing 80 90 miles an hour when I get to 5th man is it fun to drive

I did a video on EGR valve and port cleaning. It made a difference in my car, I recommend looking into it.
