    I love my Pirelli Gravel M tyres in 700C x 45mm. They hookup well in everything I have tried and also have been long wearing on tarmac (Ridley Kanzo A)

    Pirelli Cinturato H and M are the two best gravel tires I've used. The H hooks up well on dry dusty summer single track and light gravel as well as tarmac. The H is much faster than the Gravel King SS IME and almost on equal to the Terra Speed (miniscule difference in speed). The M is excellent in the chunkier loose and even wet stuff and is quick on tarmac as well. They definitely all wear exceptionally well....MUCH longer life than the Conti Terra Speed IME. My Cinturato H 40mm last nearly 2x the Terra Speed IME. I have 3 sets of Bontrager Pro3V: one setup is 45mm H, one setup is 35mm H and one set is 40mm M.

      I’m curious about those Pirellis, however pathfinder pro is so good I can’t imagine pirelli can be better than pathfinder s-works which is even lighter. The only drawback I see is - pathfinder s-works is available only in 42mm, pathfinder pro 38mm is quite heavy. Pirelli you can get 35mm which can be a quite light and fast setup. Of course gravel M would be a great choice for tough gravel.

      My magic setup is H on the rear and M on the front - fast for pedaling on hard stuff, and great grip for turning on soft stuff. I love this combination.

      Hi, what do you prefer on Terra Speed over GK SS?

  • @efraer
    @efraer 8 місяців тому +1

    I've been on the hunt for the same magic combination of fast on pavement and grippy on dirt. I rode the Challenge Getaway Pros for a while, and they were really good - light, sublimely supple feel, and very fast on the road. They were excellent while pedaling on hardpacked dirt, but a little vague at the initiation of turns, and it left me approaching things a little cautiously. I found that getting the bike leaned over onto the side knobs earlier in the turning process helped at lot. However, the beautiful handmade casing is too delicate for the terrain I ride, and I had an issue with sidewall abrasions, including a couple that became leaks. My faith in them as a race day tire collapsed. I'm currently running a mixed set, similar to way MTB'ers often do - Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H on the rear and Gravel M on the front. The H rolls fast (very similar to the Getaways) when it's time to put the power down, and the M gives the bike sharp, precise, and predictable handling in the dirt, while not penalizing very much on rolling resistance. I have used the H/M combination for BWR California and the Bovine Classic, and they were brilliant. At BWR, I was riding with a buddy on Gravel King SS 32s, and my Pirellis had no trouble keeping up, including on high-speed coasting sections. Also, the Pirelli sidewalls are very durable. These tires inspire me to attack technical sections with confidence. TL/DR: Try a combination of Pirelli H (rear) and M (front). Cheers!

    Granted, I've probably not ridden on much gravel as you, but when I got my gravel bike with its Panaracer SS, it quickly became apparent that the type of gravel you ride on has a huge bearing on choice of tires. In my case, the rocky/loose gravel in my area showed that the Panaracers were a poor match. I shifted to Michelin's Power Gravel and then to Continental's Terra Trail (both 700c x 40), which I really enjoy and would be my top choice. The type of gravel you ride on is not something you covered, and is a big omission in my view. Other considerations include ease of installation on the wheels (Michelin's were a pain, Continentals were a dream) and whether the tires "expand" to a greater width when seated on the wheels.

The tire I settled on was the Pirelli Cinturato RC in 40mm. I still think the Pirelli Gravel H is faster, but I love the puncture resistance of the Gravel RCs and recommend them to anyone who does 60% road & 40% gravel. The Gravel RC tires are very sure-footed on the dirt and fast on the road, although the bigger side knob does surprise you at higher speeds when turning, but you get used to it and after a few rides, you forget about it.

    I ride Pathfinders, but ripped a sidewall on a bikepacking trip when I thought it shouldn't. Now I race on the Pathfinders but need a recommendation for different bikepacking tires. The applications are too different to use the same tire (read: getting stranded way out there bikepacking is worth trying to avoid)
