So am I - the problem with this world is every ones expected to know how to use computers - I spend hours clicking jus trying to use a template - its only easy to people who know what they are doing ... for the rest of us its a frustrating pain in the arse .

I tried Canva years and gave up after a few attempts but thanks to this comprehensive tutorial, I'm rejuvenated into going back to it. A lot of videos are too short or too fast, but yours is well paced too.
Wow. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Just finished your tutorial, it took me somewhere between three and four hours to go through it because I stopped it all the time to try out almost everything you had just presented, in order to remember things better, and while doing so actually discovered a few more things. I also appreciated some of your design ideas which further opened my eyes to the endless possibilities Canva offers. I had already watched a number of other tutorials, some also very well presented, but most are way too short: they just awaken your curiosity but then leave you hanging there, struggling. After having worked through your tutorial, I feel that I hit the ground running, and am now off to your other tutorials to learn more. Having come down with Covid - fortunately not too bad - I still have a few more days of quarantene left that I will use for studying and practising more! 😁

great course Natalia. i had to slow the playback speed in video settings (gear symbol) and the trick to watching and listening is to follow your cursor around the screen to follow what you're clicking on and adjusting. i may have to watch several times to take notes but wow it's worth the extra effort. thank you so much for sharing your talent!

I'm so happy you've found this tutorial useful! My channel focuses on content marketing and I don't think for most content creators Photoshop will be the most sensible option. I've been using Canva Genius for a while and have created a lot of things, but your video helped me move forward my job more quickly and gave me a better understanding of the many tools. It is clear that after using Canva, I did not contact Photo shop. The fact that there isn't any extraneous talking to make the video longer is its best feature. absolute newbie, I am looking forward to giving Canva a go, even if the tutorial was a little over my head, start off small and simple I think, and work in from there, I need to remember that not everything needs to have all the whiz bang, it needs to be accurate, tasteful (aesthetic) etc. So just pace myself. Since I talk about content marketing and content creation specifically on this channel, I don’t think it would be as beneficial for the general audience to include a Photoshop tutorial. It’s simply because that’s a more complicated tool and a regular entrepreneur or a content creator won’t have the time to learn the skills for the purpose of designing for social media, blogs or business. There are quite a few tutorials on Adobe Photoshop on UA-cam already so hopefully you can learn from these! ✨
Fantastic tutorial! I've been a Photoshop user for decades and I thought Canva was for amateurs. THIS is crazy good! I am a photographer, so PS will always be in my toolbox, but Canva is my new fave. Thanks so much!

Thanks for a great tutorial, even though it was quite long I was still able to get through it without a problem (I have stopped watching some other tutorials after only a few minutes!). You're easy to listen to and don't fluff around with unnecessary long winded explanations, what you do say is easy to understand and relevant. Thanks again I learnt heaps! I'm looking forward to a tutorial on making a font from your handwriting too, I've read down through a few comments here and see that it's on your list ;-) I just have a quick question if you don't mind answering? How does Canva distinguish between a Picture and a Background? I want to upload my own background to use - would it just be a matter of using it as a "photo" and stretching out to the size of the project each time or is there a way to make it a "background" that automatically fills the whole project like the Canva backgrounds do?
So happy you enjoyed it, Lisa! 🙏 You can easily add a photo as a background in Canva. You'll notice that once you stretch it out, it will automatically snap in place and once you deselect it and then select it again, it will no longer show its full dimensions, only the shape of the Canvas. To correct the position, you need to double click on the photo and you can play around with it again. If you want multiple pages with the same background, you can simply hit the duplicate button which is located slightly above your design to the right. Hope this helps!

I’ll try to keep this thread up to date. *VIEW TAB* (Guides, Rulers, Margings & Bleed): Canva has now removed the View option from the top bar. The options to show guides, rulers, margins and print bleed has now been moved under the File tab so easily accessible from there. To change to a Grid View, you can now click in the bottom right corner of the editor on the small layer icon (indicating the number of pages) right next to the percentages. Grid View is only available when you have more than one page in your design. As far as I know, what was called the Thumbnail view is now available only for any video format designs. *ELEMENTS TAB MERGED* : You can now find most of the tabs from the left panel in a collective Elements Tab which now includes the Photos, Elements, Video and Audio. If you search for something, these tabs will appear under the search bar as well. *ALL PROJECTS TAB IS NOW CALLED PROJECTS* You can now access all of your designs from the Project tab in the left panel. It's an upgraded panel with search functionalities and subtabs making it a more useful tab that what we were used to!
The tidy up feature is still there, you just need to make sure you have 3 or more elements selected - otherwise there’s not enough to actually “tidy up” 😉
Hi, I'm not creative and fell into this by accident. Canva was recommended to use. I watched the Canva tutorials and came away more confused. I like your step by step guide. As a real novice to all things graphic, I needed a foundational element to explain more about the page itself. I wanted to make an order of service and need more information on layout eg A5 booklet. I wasn't sure if I needed to add columns, etc. God bless you for your time and effort. Very useful.

I've been using Canva Genius for a while and have created a lot of things, but your video helped me move forward my job more quickly and gave me a better understanding of the many tools. It is clear that after using Canva, I did not contact Photo shop. The fact that there isn't any extraneous talking to make the video longer is its best feature. Since I talk about content marketing and content creation specifically on this channel, I don’t think it would be as beneficial for the general audience to include a Photoshop tutorial. It’s simply because that’s a more complicated tool and a regular entrepreneur or a content creator won’t have the time to learn the skills for the purpose of designing for social media, blogs or business. There are quite a few tutorials on Adobe Photoshop on UA-cam already so hopefully you can learn from these! ✨

Thanks for a great tutorial, even though it was quite long I was still able to get through it without a problem (I have stopped watching some other tutorials after only a few minutes!). You're easy to listen to and don't fluff around with unnecessary long winded explanations, what you do say is easy to understand and relevant. Thanks again I learnt heaps! I'm looking forward to a tutorial on making a font from your handwriting too, I've read down through a few comments here and see that it's on your list ;-) I just have a quick question if you don't mind answering? How does Canva distinguish between a Picture and a Background? I want to upload my own background to use - would it just be a matter of using it as a "photo" and stretching out to the size of the project each time or is there a way to make it a "background" that automatically fills the whole project like the Canva backgrounds do?
So happy you enjoyed it, Lisa! 🙏 You can easily add a photo as a background in Canva. You'll notice that once you stretch it out, it will automatically snap in place and once you deselect it and then select it again, it will no longer show its full dimensions, only the shape of the Canvas. To correct the position, you need to double click on the photo and you can play around with it again. If you want multiple pages with the same background, you can simply hit the duplicate button which is located slightly above your design to the right. Hope this helps!

Since I recorded this tutorial, Canva has changed a few things and they may be located in a different place. I’ll try to keep this thread up to date.
*VIEW TAB* (Guides, Rulers, Margings & Bleed): Canva has now removed the View option from the top bar. The options to show guides, rulers, margins and print bleed has now been moved under the File tab so easily accessible from there. To change to a Grid View, you can now click in the bottom right corner of the editor on the small layer icon (indicating the number of pages) right next to the percentages. Grid View is only available when you have more than one page in your design. As far as I know, what was called the Thumbnail view is now available only for any video format designs.
*ELEMENTS TAB MERGED* : You can now find most of the tabs from the left panel in a collective Elements Tab which now includes the Photos, Elements, Video and Audio. If you search for something, these tabs will appear under the search bar as well.
*ALL PROJECTS TAB IS NOW CALLED PROJECTS* You can now access all of your designs from the Project tab in the left panel. It's an upgraded panel with search functionalities and subtabs making it a more useful tab that what we were used to!

The tidy up feature is still there, you just need to make sure you have 3 or more elements selected - otherwise there’s not enough to actually “tidy up” 😉

I like your step by step guide. As a real novice to all things graphic, I needed a foundational element to explain more about the page itself.
I wanted to make an order of service and need more information on layout eg A5 booklet. I wasn't sure if I needed to add columns, etc.
