If you're on the east coast the city is called either DC or Washington. The state does not come up in conversation often, if it does it's ‘Washington state.’ Your friend was from the west so that's why it was only DC to her.
Ah! That makes sense!
Looking for this comment. In the East Coast it’s both and the state is Washington State.
This was such a pleasant recommendation from UA-cam! It’s true: Generally DC is the capital and Washington is the state. Great video, very pleasant and relaxing! Well done 🇺🇸🙂🙂🙂
Awesome! Thank you!
Amazing video as always.
Your whisper is *chef's kiss*. And the tracing and sound of the wooden thingy on the paper 😍😍
Oooh thank you so much!!
Kansas City is in both Missouri and Kansas! Most sports teams are from the Missouri one so that’s the one most people talk about! It’s not a situation where one city is in both states either, both cities sprung up separately and funny enough the Missouri one had the name Kansas City first!
Oh wow!! I did not know this!
Kansas city Missouri is the better half

Would love to see you do a video like this on some micronations, like the Vatican, San Marino, Liechtenstein etc.

This is hitting my love of pointing in asmr and nerd facts. Don't see the need for whispering though. Still like it.
Hello you greet someone who his favorite city is Los Angeles and his state is Colorado. Amazing video and I almost fell asleep xd.
4:38 “what I did know about New York is this part, Manhattan island” (points to Long Island)
Manhattan is way too small to be seen from space, it’s only one of the five boroughs that make up NYC. Long Island is where most NYC suburbs are (people who commute to New York City every day from Long Island).
Yeah I’m from Long Island I literally screamed when he said that 😅
@@Astone246yeah I’m from Suffolk County, we ain’t getting the respect we deserve lol

I'm very late, but I just want to let you know that Orlando is actually the FOURTH largest city in Florida, which is quite surprising.
Jacksonville, then Miami, then Tampa, then Orlando.
Although, those are misleading numbers since cities should be measured by their metropolitan area including all surrounding suburbs rather than their legal city limits. In this case, Orlando is 2nd largest with only Miami being largest.
Florida's cities are confusing, I swear it's way easier for the rest of the states
Yes, someone else mentioned Jacksonville was absolutely massive! Quite a shock 😲
Amazing 😎👍
Just a heads up, in your thumbnail the map is flipped, don’t know if this is intentional or not so I wanted to tell you ✌️
Ah yes, the camera I was using at the time didn't flip the image... whoops!
I was hoping someone would have it time stamped but I guess not
East coast beaches are actually nicer than west coast. The Gulf of Mexico is the best for beaches tho
Brilliant video mate
I've heard said that the USA is like a doughnut (ironically lol) with everything people know and visit in a circle around the centre noone knows anything about 😂
it’s crazy how big and prosperous the US has become even though it’s such a young nation.
It's actually very young. Such a good thing to point out. And it is massive!! Such a crazy size
of course native people lived in the area for a very long time prior to “the united states of america” being established
It’s funny to me because as an American we will be excited that a building is from the 1800’s and the rest of the world is just like…that’s normal, calm down.
@@redlikeroses1062 hahaha. Even my grandmother's old house was at least 200 years old. I forget how 'young' the US is as a country sometimes
When talking about politics, we say “in Washington”. All else, we say “in DC”.
Thx!!
You should do a video on urban decay in the US. Gary, Indiana is a failed city. Cairo, Illinois is a ghost town practically. Very fascinating stuff
Wow, really interesting idea!
@@WelshASMR82Maps it’s so depressing that in a first world country we have issues like that. It’s nothing like even some of the most deprived towns in England. Cairo, Illinois is basically gone completely. Wild stuff.
It's a really shame that this book is outdated by a few years. Mississippi's flag was changed a few years ago and it's so much more beautiful and blessedly not confederate inspired
I think when I did the video it had just happened (the video itself is a few years old). I heard it was a nice new flag, congrats!
@@WelshASMR82Maps Excellent to hear! I'm very proud of the new one. It's beautiful to see progress received so well. Have a good day!
Most amaricand do refer to it as D.C it stands for District of Columbia.
Florida has the largest city by land mass in America (Jacksonville)
The capital of Georgia is Atlanta and it’s airport is the busiest in world.
Pennsylvania is named after William penn as Quaker that founded the state as a refuge for quakers that where mostly shunned by society
Rhode Island is not part of New York many foreigners get it confused with Long Island which is in New York
Florida has the lowest highest point of any state
The population of Jacksonville (144k is higher than the entire population of Wyoming (90k)
On the flag of Florida and Alabama the cross is the confederate cross
It’s pronounced boy-zee
The flag of Hawaii is the flag of the empire of Hawaii to this day
Kentucky is famous for things other than chicken here in America (mostly horse racing)
There are 2 Augusta’s the one in Georgia is there the masters golf tournament is played
Kansas City is cut in the middle by the Missouri River. Half of the city is in Kansas half is in Missouri
New Mexico has the only American license plates that say U.S.A
Alaska is amaricas largest state for oil production
Anastasia, a small town in Oregon is where the honors was filmed.

Is Long Island part of the state or the city?
@@ludifoe5039 the state is Rhode Island, long island is in New York
@@ludifoe5039 technically the state although it borders the city
@@lorrainewhite3413 okay thank you
1. In US we say DC for the capital and Washington for the state
2.The island in New York is called Long Island (Manhattan is a part of New York City) Long Island isn't
3.I live in North Carolina and it is indeed pronounced Raw-lee not Ra-lay
4.You'd be surprised to know Orlando is very small for a city (300k or so people) so is Miami
5. Boise is pronounced Boy-zee
6.Topeka is pronounced Toe-Peek-uh
7.Mississippi has recently changed its flag in the past 2 years so it doesn't have the confederate flag on it anymore
8.From a person born and raised in Texas the statement everything is bigger in Texas is 100% true, everything is unnecessarily big.
9.Cheyenne is pronounced Shy-Anne
I pronounce Topeka as toe-peek-uh (from Colorado). Also, the use of Washington is somewhat dependent on context. Whenever referring to political things, Washington is often used instead of DC. For example, you would hear “live from Washington” when they are broadcasting from the capital. But, if you are telling somebody where you are going on vacation, you would say D.C.
Thank you!
Soooooo helpful! Thank you so much! 👍
Not everyone calls it DC. I'd wager more call it Washington, myself included, because that's the city's name (even if the district is one and the same.)
Florida's cities are typical sunbelt cities whose actual development sprawls far outside their illogically-shaped city limits. While Orlando is not the largest of cities, there's nearly 1.5 million people living in Orange County and over 2 million in the metro, effectively making it a major city. The Miami area is essentially a huge tract of development stretching all the way from West Palm to Homestead, with 6.2 million people in its metro area (the satellite image on Google Maps really speaks for itself.) Not even close to being a small city by any logical measurement, which is immediately evident if you go there and take just a quick glance at the skyline. On the other hand, you have "Florida's largest city," Jacksonville, which is only large because it annexed its entire county. Otherwise it wouldn't even come close to Miami and would lag behind several other cities in the state, including Orlando. This is why it's better to go by metro population in the US rather than city population. We're a suburban, car-oriented society.

Hey! Loved the video, a pleasant random recommendation.
Charleston used to be the State Capital for South Carolina!
Our state fossil is the Columbian Mammoth too! One of my favorite prehistoric mammals.
So glad you got the recommendation!
Some of the Americans (like myself lol) are being pretty harsh about your pronunciations but LORD KNOWS if you asked us to pronounce some Welsh places we would pass away…Llainfair or whateverthehell took me like a week 😅
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch? Easy peasy!
True true.
The cool thing about the US is its geographical diversity. We have mountains, hills plains, tons of rivers, lots of islands. We have some of the driest and hottest deserts in the world. Rainforests in Florida, Alaska, and Washington. We have coastal and highland wetlands. Some massive forests. Tundra. Mediterranean climate in California. You name it we have it.
Do we have a pumpkin named Dave that is as tall as the length of California?
The rocky mountain range doesn’t start in Kansas, it starts in the middle of Colorado, west of Denver. Literally all of Kansas is flat.
All of it? Oh whoops 😬😹
Are you talking a specific range called the Rocky Mountain range? If not the Rockies start in Canada and go all the way down into Mexico.
@@codyparrish9154that’s going north to south, he means east to west
@@triletto gotcha!
@@WelshASMR82Maps Kansas is known for being super flat yeah, as are all the states that are directly north and south of it. If you look up a topographical map of any one of those states you’ll see a slow but steady increase in elevation from east to west. No mountains though
What you pointed out isn’t Manhattan island. That’s Long Island. Queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island, but besides that, the rest of the island isn’t part of NYC. Manhattan Island, which technically doesn’t exist anymore due to the filling in of a creek, is so small you can’t see it on the map.
I'm only comfortable with the East coast, probably because the new England states have similar names as England 😁
Most of our original colonies were named for somewhere or someone back in England
We definitely refer to the capital as “DC” and the state as Washington. However, sports teams in DC are usually called Washington.
And that island in New York is “Long Island”. Manhattan island is much smaller and more like a peninsula.
Great video as usual!
Oh, Long Island! Silly me! 😅
Haha you’ve obviously never lived in New York but that’s okay ❤
this was lovely! would you consider doing a connecticut or new england tracing/whispering video?? 😀
Yes, defo!
As a long islander, we refer to it as Washington as the capital and Washington State as the state

You are very handsome and you have amazing voice ❤️
I'm from the east coast and I would say most people I know call it either "Washington, D.C." or just "D.C."... if someone says "Washington" even on the east coast, they mean the state. So I guess I'd agree more with your ex-roommate than these other east coasters but what do I know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also people from there call it Ne-vaah-dah not Ne-vah-dah, but everyone else gets it wrong and uses the "ah" middle a sound
Mississippi actually changed their flag recently to remove the Confederate flag from their own in 2021
I'll have to redo this video!
6:55 Unfortunately, the lands were not sold. The US forced Mexico into a treaty after the Mexican American War to cede land.
A lot of the land east of New Mexico and parts of Texas were sold to the Americans by Napoleon. That was really the only time that the USA purchased land, aside from Alaska from the Russians and the Panama canal area(?) as well as some Caribbean islands
Good video by the way. Very underrated channel
Thanks for filling in the gaps in my knowledge! I truly appreciate it 🙏😊
Also the The Louisiana Purchas
That treaty technically had Mexico sell the land to the US, but for pretty cheap. So the US didn’t get it for free, but still a dirty move. Of course that sort of thing was common in those days.
As a sacramentoan I can confirm what you say, but the north is beautiful and has lots of amazing cities.
I disagree with a lot of what the other Americans are saying about Washington. I grew up on the west coast then lived on the east coast. In the west, when people say Washington, it refers to the state, given the proximity. Whereas in the east when people say Washington, it refers to the city for the same reason. This would be the same as, say, York. If you’re in the UK, people are referring to the city in Yorkshire. In Pennsylvania, they’re referring to the city in Pennsylvania.
I love that in your world the USA is not the center of it. ❤
The first time I saw a map where Europe *wasn't* in the middle I was like... wtf?!?! Lol
fun facts about nevada from a resident:
Carson city is the capital, but only the third largest city, behind Reno and Las Vegas.
98% of the state is owned by the federal government. some of that used to be used as nuclear testing sites.
Area 51 is located in nevada.
Locals will pronounce it ne-vah-duh rather than ne-vaw-duh.
Thank you!!
I’m from Maryland, 3:37 I’m used to calling the capital Washington D.C. or just D.C.
The best part is 27:54 I’m totally not saying this because I’m from Texas
Huntsville, as of recently, is now the largest city in Alabama.
Super video! What is the name of the book pls ?
This video is recommended in my "New to you" part and I like this!
Glad it found you 😊
Recently found your channel, enjoy all your videos, and now working back. Have a point on the US state shapes that you might find interesting. You’d notice the eastern states are smaller and oddly shaped, while the western are larger and more geometric. The eastern states borders were originally established in the 1700s and mostly follow natural features like rivers or mountain ranges. The western states were established in the 18&1900s along with more sophisticated land surveying. Some western state boundaries do follow natural features, but in a significantly less percentage than eastern states.
Thx for the info!!
A whisper video must be done a certain way before. I’ll like it. For example, I like most of Gibi ASMR’s content, except for her whispering. Can’t stand them. But this one here, I like it. I had to decrease the volume enough so I wouldn’t hear the lip smacking; that’s a big turn off for me. I also like you tracing the state borders. Anyway, thumbs up.
Glad you liked it!
Bill Clinton was the governor of Arkansas before becoming president.
West Virginia split during the civil war cause they didn’t want to go to war with the union. West Virginia used to be part of Virginia
Oh, right! I knew neither of those things. Thank you so much!
Rio Grande does not touch Arizona.. it goes through the middle of New Mexico and then makes the Texas border with Mexico.

When referring to the capital, most of us just call it “D.C.” and then “Washington” for the the state because, uh well, that’s it’s name. The only exception to this would be in the case of sports teams from D.C. like the Nationals, Capitals, or Commanders, which are referred to as The Washington [Insert team name here].
Secondly, you’ll also be surprised to learn that Jacksonville is not only the largest city in Florida, but it’s actually the largest city by land area in the contiguous U.S. (the adjoining 48 states) being beaten out only by a couple of towns in Alaska.
Jacksonville being the biggest city is nuuuuts

Madison, Wisconsin is a brilliant city if you find yourself in the general area. Absolute class. Much nicer than the other big city in Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Milwaukee is very drab and grey. A bit of a smaller version of Birmingham in the U.K 😂
