- Newcastle United 1 Leeds United 2 Premier League Match Review.
The Premier League was back at St James' Park as Newcastle United entertained Leeds United. Unfortunately for the Toon Army their dismal run continues as they went down 2-1. Steve Bruce continued with his 5 at the back system with Hayden playing there again. Manqullio dropped which I found amazing given he'd been OK at Villa.
Newcastle United were very poor in the first half but to their credit played much better in the second half, much better pressing and tried to attack Leeds United. However it wasn't to be and the question is will it be back to Bruceball on Saturday when Newcastle United go to Everton in the Premier League.

Thats much better ,we actually showed some life in the second half ,Miggy and fabian outstanding and Asm when he came on ,done his bit too.Everton next, let's do this again ,all the game .Shelvey and Hendricks still not performing ,get shar in midfield with Haydon,thats a start, miggy, asm and Wilson up front ,let's attack Everton I know we can. Great review as usual Paul keep it up

Good review. Probably about the same level of tone as I have atm. I've done the rage thing too much, have found myself disinterested at times hard to get hyped for a game, could almost say it's like I've given up. I say almost because I still put myself through the same ordeal every game with the hope that someone in that team produces enough of something to give enough hope for the game after. It's not even about the results for me anymore, we got beat that game against a struggling Leeds side that looked like needed a physio almost any time they went near the ball but Leeds play really good football so good on them but we showed some promise. That performances lifted me a bit and if anything shows that taking risks, so long as they're measured isn't a sure fire way to lose because we looked just as capable of getting a point from that than any the games we sat back and done nothing going forward.

Hi Paul, I feel your pain mate. As a Leeds fan I know what its like to have bad managers and bad owners. We are so lucky to have the owners that we have now, and the investment. Until Ashley sells up I think you'll struggle which is a crying shame, The Magpies belong in the premier league, even more so when the gates open at St James Park, and I wish you all the best for the rest of the season and beyond. The PL needs you!

Good video Paul. I like Schar. He is 2021's Philippe Albert...my hero from the 1995-6 team. Its just that he isnt surrounded by Ginola, Ferdi etc. I fancy us vs Palace at least. Maybe a point from Everton?

Looks to me like the players abandoned Bruce’s tactics in the second half and played for the fans, not the manager. When ur centre back in Schar is arguably your best attacker you know the players are crying out for change

I thought we shouldve wrapped it up before half time, we missed 2 big chances. Let you back into the game in the 2nd half too easily but its the best I've seen Newcastle press in weeks. ASM is some player man. Glad we grafted to get 3 points. Yous will easily stay up with the attacking players you have! Good luck for rest of season!

I missed the game, great win for us, and some nice goals. By all accounts you played well second half, you had the better chances and should perhaps have won. Meslier saved us a couple of times. Watched the highlights etc and I never noticed that we were wearing white socks with that Burgundy shirt! He certainly showed Shelvey and Hendrick how to do it. It's a possibility.

Leeds fan here. I agree, we weren't that good last night, probably lucky to win, I thought you guys deserved at least a draw. If you show your second half attitude for the rest of the season you'll definitely be OK.

I thought you were really good second half although I still can't believe how easy that first goal was no pressure at all. I would be fuming with that despite the second half performance. I think and hope you lot stay up. From a leeds fan!

I'd agree with that Paul. We got the points because we played well in the first half where Newcastle were awful. 2nd half you were very good, ASM tied us up in knots at times. Tough game for you at Everton but you'll be fine. See you at Elland Road next year 👍

Leeds fan here.... you definitely deserved something out of that game..We've had games go against us like that this season... Keep that 2nd half form going and you'll get points... but that's the big question!

Ashley/Bruce has me so dispirited I’m happy with a loss at home coz of 45mins of effort. Wondering if some players realise there’s no lifeline escape jan transfer out of the club and now it’s up to them to keep playing in PL and escape relegation.

Hopefully you get a better manager in soon mate, that second 45 mins showed the attacking quality you've got when they're allowed to get forward.

Much better second half, we looked all over the place ,and that lad on the wing is a baller, he should have been on from start, you were very unlucky not to equalise . We lost another central defender again ,have had 13 different pairings this year, no good for form and continuity,anyway if you turn up like that in your remaining matches you'll be fine
ASM has been out for 11 weeks so need to slowly introduce him back!
You've got the better squad, we've got the better manager. We havent had our first choice defence all season (Koch, Llorente), which would make a big difference as they'd provide much better stability and distribution. No Andy Carrol, thanks! Super Leeds we like the geordies.

I think the score flattered Leeds, the Magpie's deserved a bit of luck in the 2nd half, skimmed the bar a few times and Leeds keeper made a few great saves, on another day they would have gone in. Biesla was sympathetic towards Bruce at the end, he knew they got away with one and Brucie could be on his way out. I think Newcastle will Def stay up.

Fortunate to be down 0-1 at the break with the way we played in the first half. Jonjo was dreadful and Lascelles had to take over as midfielder! As for Bruce, what is the deal with Matty? If he starts instead of Hendrick, we just might have won that game. Hendrick adds NOTHING to the side whatsoever.
I think his treatment of Matty has been shocking!
There was some improvement, but it's just not good enough and that's why we need a change of manager immediately

The second half performance means absolute nothing because at the end of the day that's now 11 matches that we haven't won a match in and now we find ourselves hoping that the likes of Sheffield United, West Brom and Fulham etc. All lose so that we stay out of the bottom 3.
It's easier said than done but these players seriously need to get points on the board and keep us well clear of the bottom 3. We are deep trouble especially if we get relegated because despite what some say I believe that there's no team good enough not to be relegated. If we get relegated we could well go on to do what clubs like Leeds, Portsmouth and Sunderland have done in the past and that's not what we need to turn more and more into a laughing stock then we already are.
We have to take the way we played against Leeds in the last 30mins into the Everton match and play like that for the full 90 and get the points on the board to try and stay clear enough of the bottom 3.

You guys have tremendous fight in your team even when your not playing well.
2nd half we (leeds) were terrible and if at the moment we went back ahead you had put Carroll on youd have won that game our defense really concerns me and we were there for the taking in that 2nd half. At the end of the day im glad we took the points but are you not concerned that this good performance from yourselves could go some way to resetting the timer for Bruce? Best of luck for rest of the season.

We had a go from around the 60mins mark but we didn't make the best of the free kicks that we had. I thought that the players didn't seem to have any sort of game plan or organisation it was attack, attack, attack. I have never seen Lascelles attack like he did against Leeds. You could say that it was a better performance but at the end of the day its another defeat that makes this winless run continue into the Everton match. We are in trouble. Big trouble! #BRUCEOUT

A half decent 45 minutes doesn't hide the run we've been on.Yes we were better.But it's another defeat.If Fulham win this week,then we need a performance for 90 minutes against Everton.

I would've really enjoyed this game as a neutral. It was two big teams locking horns, one team weak in the first half and then strong in the second, the result not set in stone until the final whistle. A draw would have been more than a fair result, if you'd played the same way in the first half as you did in the second it would've been 2-2.
This is the tragedy - Bruce has given you a taste of attacking play, what players like Miggy and Murphy can offer you if you give them license to go at the opponent. That taste will be washed right away next game when he reverts to type and it's a crying shame because you could see your lads actually looked like they were enjoying themselves when they were able to attack.
I genuinely think Bruce only had your lads press hard and roam forward because you were playing us, since we obsessively play out from the back without the players best equipped to do that - but you can and should be playing like that every game. It works. That's why Leeds do it.
Bruce is to scared to actually play attacking football from the start.
Much better from Newcastle 2nd half... was an enjoyable game for a neutral!

Everyone defence isn't the best and have mistakes in them but it won't matter cos their midfield will absolutely dominate ours

He has to go before it’s to late Ashley must realise this Bruce will no he should be sacked but he wants his payoff 2 million so he won’t walk . Thought you were really unlucky today. Maximin was a threat and horrible to defend. Schar impressed me too. Thought Hendrick was in cb at times. And shelvey really didn’t impress me. You’re goal was great linkup play but was down to bamford poor performance today. Would’ve wanted to see the outcome if Llorente wasn’t so injury prone. Without Raphinha and Rodrigo I think we would’ve lost that game. I have also watched all reviews since the 5-2 and can tell this is the game that has motivated Newcastle more than previous ones. But overall good performance and hopefully Newcastle can turn it around cause I rate a lot of your players highly

One of the stand out examples of the "Bruce Effect" was when we attacked for Raphinas goal and the ref got back up the pitch into a defensive position for you faster than Shelvey...... The only time I've ever seen a man move slower in order to try and salvage a potential catastrophe is when one of me mates sets off from the pub knowing he's going to get pegged by his lass because he promised his lass faithfully that he was calling in for two pints on Saturday lunch time and be back handy to pick her up from her girls afternoon and cook for them both to kick back for a romantic night of Strictly Come Dancing, but ended up drinking himself into a fantastic tangle and ramming 100 quids worth of charge up his nose that came out the joint account and will require an Oscar-winning performance to bullshit himself out of.

To be fair Newcastle's goal came from a Leeds mistake. Leeds gave possession away cheaply and Newcastle capaitalised.
Both of our goals came from Newcastle marking mistakes too
@@andyd6338 I think a lot of teams can work out Newcastle's weaknesses. Bruce puts some players out of position, has shit dinosaur tactics and it will be a relegation battle. Playing well for half a game is not good enough to won games.
