Brentford's great escape of 2004 was very impressive considering the bees were a far cry from where they are today establishing themselves in English football's elite of the Premier League under Thomas Frank. The bees were really down to barebones in terms of their squad and financially so much so then manager Wally Downes admitted that the target for Brentford was to keep the club afloat to prove to the bank that the club can manage itself. After 1 win in 19 resulted in manager Wally Downes paying the price with his job they were 2nd bottom but after Martin Allen's appointment as manager the club was transformed after their 5th defeat on the bounce at home to Stockport they only lost once for remainder of the season against Grimsby.
