This is why I avoid putting myself out on the internet like you do. Don't let the tail wag the dog. Just do your thing and the people that enjoy it will stay. The chemistry was real. After starring together in Crocodile Dundee II, which was also a huge hit you might want to check out if you're looking for more, Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski married. Unfortunately Hogan was never able to replicate the success of Crocodile Dundee and Crocodile Dundee II, starring in a series of flops (including Crocodile Dundee III actually). He was actually a huge TV star in Australia before and after his Hollywood ventures, so he did okay nonetheless.

We actually dropped into the Walkabout Creek Hotel for a beer a couple of weeks ago when travelling through that area. Although the film is set in the Northern Territory the pub where they shot those scenes is in a little town called McKinley in outback Queensland. In the front yard of the hotel there are also other movie props such as the old hunting truck. There are only a few people who live in McKinley permanently but the annual rodeo was being advertised so no doubt the population would increase a 1000 fold while it was on.. The hotel is a must visit for Aussies like us when passing through that area especially those who were around when those Croc movies were released. Great review some of the old lines may have become a bit well worn like that aint a knife but I think the Aussie humour still comes through.

So..."throw another shrimp on the barbie" comes from a TV commercial with Paul Hogan (Croc Dundee). Thing is "shrimp" isn't a word in Aussie English. "Prawns" is the word.
One of dearest friends is Aussie and she has no issue with this film...except that her entire life everyone quotes it at her. She's soft-spoken, kind-hearted, shy even...but when anyone says to her "that's not a knife" or "throw a shrimp..." her eyes fill with blood and a stream of raging, dirty vitriol explodes from her at the offender in question. 😂🤣🤣🤣

@@BossMovieReactions You weren't wrong, Mike! The 80's ad _said_ "shrimp" (which Dumb is referencing). Hogan was told to say "shrimp" instead because Americans don't know what a prawn is. And thus it became a silly, inaccurate yet ubiquitous Thing.

When I moved back to America (half aus half usa) in 96 everyone kept saying, to me “It’s Australian for beer” in heavy accent. Apparently Fosters beer had had a massive hold on the american market and has been campaigning Americans since Hogan’s early days, that Australians drink a lot of Fosters. I was amazed to see it available in american supermarkets and told an Australian friend how amazed I was. He replied, “I saw a Fosters can in the gutter the other day and was amazed someone had drunk that”, as it’s considered twrrible in Aus. The fact that Australia is one of the greatest beer producer/consumers in the world and an american-brewed Fosters is all the representation Australia has in the American beermarket, is ridiculous.

I went to Perth WA in 1979. I was 18 at the time and a bit of a soft Englishman.
My oldest brother moved out there when I was 8 and being a really good boxer he had earned the respect of those he knew.
After helping him work on a roof all day in the blazing summer heat he decided we should visit the Tavern.
It was just like the pub in this movie....full of rough Aussies.
My brother had told me that if I didn't stand up to them I'd be in trouble.
We walked in and my brother introduced me.
This huge guy stood up and said "Fuck off ya Pommie bastard". I nearly shit myself but rembered what my brother had told me, so I walked over and got 3 inches from the guys face and told his to shut his fat ugly face. He looked at me for a few seconds and said "let me get you beer mate".
From that point on I could go in there on my own and I never had to buy a single drink.

Not only is that a stuffed crocodile but what most people miss is that its a freshwater crocodile, which are not particularly dangerous. They're small and wont attack unless you attack them or scare them.
At the end, how he walks across the crowd of people is how an Australian sheep dog will walk across the top of a flock of sheep in a pen. Its instantly recognisable to most Australians but it seems to be a bit of a mystery to non-Australians.
If you liked this, try The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, or Muriel's Wedding. Both great comedies. Both full of internationally famous Australian stars from their early years. There's also a crocodile dundee 2. You will find them a bit unusual because Australian comedies tend to have a message as well and tend to be quite uplifting.

This is a classic romantic comedy that is still as funny as ever. I saw this in the theater when it came out, and the whole theater burst into cheers and applause at the ending, probably the greatest final scene ever in a romantic comedy.
Paul Hogan became known in the U.S. for a very popular series of commercials he did for the Australia Tourism Board. He presented the same sort of character, a super-friendly regular guy who invited you to visit him in Australia. He capitalized on that popularity to make this movie. He and his co-star actually got married after the movie was made.

The boomerang did originate in Australia. But it's more commonly called a "kiley" or "rabbit stick. Real ones don't return though. Instead, they have one protracted arm to throw it further , and a flat underside to sustain long distance flight. We adopted them in Kentucky around 1870 to hunt flocks of duck, pheasant and rabbit. But the Aussies still use them to hunt flocks of cockatoo, fruit bats, rodents, and medium size marsupials. A lot of Assuies came to Appalachia post Civil War, and we still have a lot of shared culture and tools today. Some of my best friends are Assuie descended.

Fun Fact. Actors that played Dundee and Sue were married in real life hence the chemistry.

    Thanks for doing this one.
    1. I first saw this when it first hit pay cable. The second one isn't as good.
    2. Nice to have an amiable protagonist.
    3. When I was in the US Navy my battlegroup visited Sydney. In the nightclubs the women would be dancing with each other, and the men would be in the back drinking each other the table. Nice. Fish in a barrel.😁😈
    4. The second one is good, but I liked this one better. That said, without a spoiler, kudos to the guy that plays the heavy.

I love all the Foster's beer product placement in the bar scene in Australia.
Before doing this movie Paul Hogan did a whole load of TV adverts for Foster's.
The irony of this is that I know a lot of Aussies and they've all told me that nobody in Australia actually drinks Foster's. 😂
