Darryl, you're so right about the children. They live 100% in the here and now because they haven't been taught yet how they're supposed to live their life, what they're expected to believe, and worst of all the necessity to compromise. I can actually remember my own childhood that way - the joyous, carefree feeling of just playing on a see saw and not thinking deeply about anything.
I don't think a lack of language would eliminate confusion. It would just make it more difficult to express those confusions and make them clear. I could still wonder how I'm able to move my hand without having to express it verbally. I think the issue here is the link between language and intelligence. The natural result of increased intelligence is an increased ability to communicate ideas. When you imagine yourself without language I think you are also imagining yourself as less intelligent at the same time. It's very difficult to separate the two. I remember thinking as a baby. It was very strange because they were not verbal thoughts. This actually made things more confusing. I remember feeling bewildered and engulfed by this strange world. But again, my brain was very undeveloped at the time. I wasn't as intelligent. So I don't entirely know what it would be like to think non-verbally with the brain I have now.
In IT we use the term 'Blackboxing' which i think applies pretty well to the ideas you brought up in this video. Basically we need to steer away from trying to understand the complexities and instead assuming it is stable continue on working with what has been given to us.
I would say the confusion is mostly caused by flawed concepts _within_ language. I think language is a wonderful tool, but we've made the mistake of assuming that the tool is perfect, that our language is as refined as it possibly _can_ _be_. So, we've disallowed ourselves from redefining ourselves, the world we live in, and the words we choose to describe it. Ironically, instead of using language, _it's_ _using_ _us!_
What makes life confusing to me is that it's overwhelming. It's really helps to see life as a game, or an experience and not take it too seriously, but I often forget to see it this way.
This video couldn't have been more on time in my life. Thanks for this. I have been confused lately until I take steps back and take stock. I seem to be back on track but in a very new direction. Very timely Darryl.
I have that issue too sometimes. To be my own billboard is kind of awkward; at times, it's more effective taking and picking advice from others than from the self. And at other times, self-teaching is the only way. Maybe you're at a level I haven't reached yet. Being serious isn't bad. As long as we still have those laughs, like your profile picture for instance. Two thumbs up, pretty awesome, lol.
"Getting out the wrong ideas and seeing what you're left with." You nailed it with that statement. I don't think the problem is language because other animals can be thought of as having language. Also, I don't think that religion is the only bad idea we have in society. The market economy might even be worse. It is the wrong idea, not language itself that is the cause of confusion. So then the question becomes, "Can other animals (besides humans) have a wrong idea?"
Ken McNutt II Good point, Ken, about animals having a language. I know there is stuff going on among dogs when they get together. I believe their barks have meaning besides just guarding their turf. There are books devoted to understanding what your cat is trying to tell you, etc. I often wish that I could not only understand what they're trying to convey to me, but also what they're actually conveying to each other that will probably never be known to mankind. It's frustrating, actually.
I was playfully saying to my cat yesterday something like, "You don't have any problems do you? You don't know a word and you're perfectly all right." Then the next day you're speaking of the same thing. I've experienced many such synchronicities with people here on youtube. How this happens is a complete mystery to me,but it does strongly suggest some kind of underlying unity.
Awesome video Darryl. Alan Watts said something along the lines of, the education system is like the salt you put on meat to preserve it. You eventually have to wash some of it off. It's kind of funny how that works. You have to do, then you have to undo lol.
If anyone else is looking for logic and common sense channels such as this, then I highly advise giving The SBN Lifestyle a shot...Welcome! Identity and symbols..."It's a form of play"...I like that!
i was thinking a similar thing, like if you imagine a cat, you dont need a word for it, your minds eye knows what it is, same as a tree or a flower or the sky,,, the strange thing is if you try and imagine god without a word, I just see nature.
Great video Darryl. A little off topic here, but I just wanted to say, that I like your camera angle this way. It not only shows your eye color better, but it makes you seem as though you're looking right at us. Also, when you said "look at my necklace." I said to my hubby, "I was noticing that Darryl's eyes weren't brown, but a pretty blueish green." LOL He said but your missing the message!!:))) But, I got the message loud and clear:) I disliked the fact that your ex-christian friends did that to you. Why couldn't they just love you, for you, and not judge you on whether you went to church?? You're better off without fair weathered friends like that:)) Nice to see you back. Also, are you still eating vegetarian??? I went on a whole plant based diet in May (Dr. McDougall's "The Starch Solution.") and I love it!! No oils, meat, or dairy. My cholesterol is down to normal and I've also lost 24 pounds.
indeed language is the culprit. check out the the mystery by tommy emmanuel. wise words... once you've untangled the maze that language makes utilizing however discarding the other worldly fluffy spiritual stuff you really do realise and accept life and truly realise it is what happens while you're busy making other plans. language is the root of all confusion (ALSO IDENTIFICATION) i like that. iv been on a trip and back too tolle and his repackage guru tummy rot thinking what a profundity how come i never knew what a bussiness model he has. appeal to the authority of eckhart fallacy.
True enough Darryl. for a slightly different perspective on the subject of language i would recommend Marshal Rosenberg's work. His book NVC subtitled a language of life has been useful to me and has been reported to be useful to everyone I have passed it on to. On another matter i was wondering if you are still stuck on this random mutations idea?
***** We still have a difference of opinion regarding that then. And that would indicate that you are still stuck on that idea. 'Stuck' seems like a reasonable descriptive. And after all, you turned away from christianity (which you were stuck on) and that indicates to me that you are able to change your mind. this is all the evidence i need to believe that you will change your mind regarding Random Mutations. I believe that you would prefer to see things in an accurate way rather than being the kind of person who just adopts the more popular view
I don't think the dragonfly would be better off remaining a nymph. Evolutionary transitions are what they are. Accepting this is better than accepting life for what it is. Intention is the only thing that matters now.
Darryl, I can't remember if it's something you've discussed in older videos, but, do you believe in reincarnation? Part of myself does, and I think that the reason we as young children are able to be in that state of wonder is that at birth, we are returning from a space/plane/what have you where the fetters of communication, language, and physical existence as a whole are not present. Just a thought, and I wonder what you think of this. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks for the response, Darryl, that makes things a bit clearer for me :) I feel like I have so many more questions, hopefully one day I can have some sort of back-and-forth with you - I think I really like your interpretation of things. Best to you.
Can't I trust in The Universe? Err..well I could if it provided me with my basic needs. It doesn't! Here's an idea that might become the answer as in .."there is no stopping an idea whos time has come" not sure who said that but lets' face facts. Robots are taking over our jobs, it is more than likely they will take mine one day. So how do we conrtiubute to any economy when we no longer have the means to earn any money and then spend it...because that is how economies work isn't it? Circulating money..like your blood stream circulates oxygen. If your blood stream packs up circulating oxygen you have a heart attack. I know it's a metaphor but what if the money stops circulating ..the whole economic system goes into meltdown. It's not as if we don't know how this works...the "Wall Street Crash" in 1927 is just one of many examples. Anyway maybe this could be the answer: ua-cam.com/video/kl39KHS07Xc/v-deo.html Just picked this one at random but it is not a new idea and there of plenty of other alternative views for you to make your mind up about. Is it a good idea? To be honest I don't know but for whatever reason it chimes with my logic. If my logic is wrong I'll just have to live with it!
The comparison of animals with humans don't make any sense at all every creature is build with different capacity we don't need language to communicate we're capable of finding hundreds of different methods to communicate like deaf people sign language so its the capacity is a problem not the language you can put human mind in dogs head then the confusion will start there as well if I'm wrong here please correct me.

Darryl, I wish you and I were friends so I could say you are the wisest man I know. My mind is blown, and it's so simple. Thank you.
What makes life confusing to me is that it's overwhelming. It's really helps to see life as a game, or an experience and not take it too seriously, but I often forget to see it this way.

I also see for myself what you mean now by not taking life so seriously, just have fun with it, enjoy it. It's made a big difference.

Thought is the architect of language.

I really needed to see this video. Thank you - subscribed!

Hey Darryl, I am in no way boasting or boosting your ego here, but you are truly ONE OF A KIND!...SBN
Five years ago!...now, watch this video and apply its message to your life now.
I rewatched it. I understand it perfectly, and I'm totally at a loss about what you mean.
Awesome video Darryl. Alan Watts said something along the lines of, the education system is like the salt you put on meat to preserve it. You eventually have to wash some of it off. It's kind of funny how that works. You have to do, then you have to undo lol.

That's not what others mean by God.
The word is a thought and the word for your thought is nature, as is mine.
Hi there, can you tell me how I can join your cult? Thank you.

I'm more confused now than ever! Just kidding, really love your videos and your eyes and your necklace =)
I'm quite happy to trust in the Universe if it pays my bills!..No evidence of that happenning!
True enough Darryl.
