  • RJC 1203 a EMD SW1200 built for the GTW in 1960 works the RJ Corman Railroad's Western Ohio Lines division, assigned the the SPEG. The line was formerly the Erie Lackawanna and Spencerville and Elgin. They had little work... run 6 tank cars from Elgin to Spencerville, pull 3 tanks and spot one before tying down. I guess it wasn't necessary to take the empties to interchange yet.

I love switching operations. Great video. Corman's locomotives always look great. The string of tank cars had no graffiti, too. Amazing!

What a clean, sweet, immaculate little EMD switcher this is. Rick Corman's legacy lives on through the way his railroad is managed today.

That was awesome! I love switching videos. Last night I saw an RJ Corman Geep go north through LaGrange, Kentucky on a freight train. It was the trailing unit behind 3 CSX

There’s a sw1200 in my town, number 824 . Probably spent countless years going back and forth on the rails

Nice. The local Terminal railroad near me uses EMD SW1500 in similar color.

    That's a nice looking 60 year-old locomotive and it doesn't even smoke!

I'll bet the maintenance is priority on that Loco unlike some other RRs

RJ Corman bought this locomotive from the estate of the bankrupt and now defunct Central Illinois Railway Company. That was the same company that painted their ex BRC SW9 in CB&Q colors to switch some ex Burlington industrial trackage near Downtown Chicago. When built, it replaced an RS2 on the GTW Elsdon Local to South Bend. It was retired and sold to Kellogs(the cereal company) in Battle Creek, Mi. It worked there for some time in the 90s and was sold to Central Illinois in the early 2000s(Central Illinois would take over the switching contract for Kellog and dispatch their NW2 1005 there(I believe it is still there today). Once on the CIRY's roster, 1203 would languish at a steel mill in Hennepin, Il that would be shuttered not long after its arrival. It remained there for 7 or 8 years seeing very little service, but received high acclaim from crews. It was the youngest on the Central Illinois' fleet of 1st gen EMD switchers.

They also bought 1208 and 1209, 1209 had a sideswipe incident but kept going, they eventually ran it so low on oil pressure the rods started knocking and its getting scrapped soonish. Poor thing.

It seems like RJ Corman works a Lot of Derailments but also handles Bidnez for NS on the Pittsburgh Line around Altoona, PA. 👍

Another one of your great works. Always at the right place at the right time. Your vantage points are spectral. Fall colors are stunning. Great ideas for model railroading ...... always. !! Always do your lifts first and no cheery picking lol.

Great Scott, what super videography , A+ work! BTW, has anyone ever seen a Corman engine that needs a wash? Also, that beautiful switcher just begs for a Lionel model.

Thank you! They’re typically very clean. Only catch them dirty in the winter when the exhaust condenses and streaks the hood.

Yes, I've seen plenty. Some so bad it took upper management finding out to get them washed

Are the painted yellow markers at 9:45 to denote minimum clearances so cars don't swipe each other?

When the drone was flying at the start of the switching customer, I think those power lines under the drone were expecting a snack. Good thing they didn’t get one.

What time do they come and leave Spencerville?

    • @ScottTaipaleRail
      @ScottTaipaleRail  Рік тому

They do not have any regularity to this job. It took about 20 tries to actually catch them working here.

@@ScottTaipaleRail wow... They're currently sitting by that factory right now in Spencerville, I'm hoping to catch it on camera myself, they always seem to arrive early and leave late now and seem to do it every other week, they sit around for almost a week then leave, I tried to get one that came through a long time ago but my phone died when I was running over there after hearing the horn haha
I live in one of the trailer parks in town, the one that is much further from the tracks, they're definitely hard to catch around here
