OMG! About two years ago I visited that location with two of my grandsons and we had a blast filling that pocket with stones! Nice work. I like your overall video production. The brief tech data, camera size, film(s), exposure data, sun direction and height, camera shifts and tilts, the problems encountered and solved and the light table discussions. Although I was in Zion spring of 2022 my line about filling the pocket with stones was like one of your negatives, the opposite of reality. Keep on trekking.
Nice!! That is a wall hanger for sure. And I’m only halfway through the video…(talking about the first Ektar image). Second ektar is great too. I like the foreground rock. 👍
The second picture is 🔥. I hiked the Narrows before and took many pictures but I never thought to shoot with a polarizer. Your use of the polarizer to show what's underneath the water surface is a the crucial touch that puts the photos to the next level. Well done man.
Hey Chris, so sorry for the late response, guess YT recommendations seems to have "lost you". Nice little series, love your final color grading (at least on my TV). That kettle hole shot is particularly sweet. Thanks for sharing.
Great photos especially the dark canyon. I liked the 'rock pocket'. I think I would have splashed some water on the scene for one exposure and get a pair of waders to keep yourself warm and dry in the river 🥶🤧
Thanks Andrew! Splashing water on the scene never occurred to me, but I bet that would have brought out the color and saturation quite a bit, ha! I did have wetsuit bottoms and socks on underneath my hiking trousers but it was still a bit too cold in there. Perhaps waders or a dry suit would be a better choice next time!
Great photos. I was really tickled to see another Zion video. I thought after the last one that was it but then this one popped up! Enjoyed the video Chris. The Narrows is a place I haven't gone yet in Zion so it was great to get a look.
Thanks Philip! This one was a bonus that I figured I'd tack on to the end of the series 😉 The Narrows really is an awesome place, although it's gotten a lot more popular in recent years it's still a truly unique and beautiful canyon; highly recommended to visit it if you get the chance!
Thanks Kit! The Intrepid is definitely not as stable as the Toyo, that’s a given but it did really well during this trip. Had to be careful loading film holders and I wish you could lock the focus down, but otherwise pretty ok.
What a great video. It takes me back. I've done the overnight hike in the Narrows from the head of the canyon twice. What beautiful images. On the last image I prefer the darker exposure as well. Super job.
Excellent set of images. I really like the color palette of the Ektar film in the canyon. I like how the turquoise water contrast with the red hues of the rock. There is just something about that film… A really inspiring video, thank you.
Beautiful photos. I am still working on getting my technique down with the slide films. I find it harder to shoot transparency film in large format than with 35mm or 120. Great job on the photos and thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Slides are definitely finicky but man it’s hard to beat a big sheet of color reversal when it goes right. I too am always working on improving my technique, I suppose I’ll probably always be learning in one way or another. Thanks for watching!
Good job, very good results. Difficult location, never mind hauling a 4X5 outfit around. The Intrepid maybe basic, but it has it where it counts. Can't imagine carrying a full Toyo outfit anymore. I used to do it in my youth, no longer I am afraid, even a Wista Field DX starts to get very heavy after a short while.
Agreed, there was no way I was going in there with the Toyo, ha. I honestly felt like the Intrepid did really well on this trip, and for what it is I had no complaints!
Thanks Roger! I haven't done any tests with optical targets or anything, but so far I have not noticed any issues in the field shooting at f/32. Seems like I get really good depth of field and the sharpness has been fantastic.
Even though it was -16F when I was out earlier this morning, seeing you walk through that cold water and seeing the breeze move the ferns still gave me the shivers. Really liked that 2nd shot and I had to chuckle at both that and your final shot as you included the infamous JCBs in the forground (Joe Cornish Boulders). A good day for you Chris.
Thanks Jim! Haha, it was definitely chilly in there early in the day. It did get quite a bit warmer as the sun came up higher in the sky though. Gotta love those boulder foregrounds!
I REALLY like the images in this video Chris. There are some canyons out west of Sydney. I think there are a couple that don’t require ropes to get into. I’m putting them on my ‘to do’ list. Maybe that can be my mission for my first attempt at colour 4x5.
Beautiful colours in the wider shots and the small scene works well. Personally in the first I feel there is too much water in the scene, maybe shot a landscape with the water/stone wall near the bottom left corner, that said I've no idea what is there and I'm a rubbish photographer :-)
Thanks Andrew! Now that I look at it the water in the foreground is a little heavy in the bottom of the photo, I probably could crop that in a bit. I seriously doubt you're a rubbish photographer at all!
The images you made are so beautiful! Out of curiosity, where do you find the individual protective sleeves for 4x5 negatives? Whenever I search for them all I find are the full pages by print file or Etone.
Thanks Thomas! I've been sending my film to the lab for development and they provide the protective sleeves included with processing. However, a while back I found a comparable option on B&H Photo's website - "Archival Methods Side Lock Polyester Film Sleeves", B&H #ARSLFS45PS, manufacturer number #31-103. I haven't used them myself yet but if I try some self developing those are the ones I was going to buy. Hope that helps!
Gorgeous. Were your feet/legs cold&wet? Seems like that would require waders. I like that detailed rock shot. On this outing did u ever feel constrained by having your intrepid vs your toyo?
Thanks Jesse! Fortunately I was wearing neoprene wetsuit pants and socks underneath my hiking pants which really helps a ton but it's still cold in there, particularly when you're just standing there setting up the camera and not moving. Honestly I felt like the Intrepid did really well for me on this trip. Of course the geared adjustments and rigidity makes the Toyo far easier to work with but I don't feel at all like the Intrepid held me back in this case, although admittedly all three shots were fairly straightforward.
As I understand it the original Ektar was indeed discontinued, then relaunched in its current form a decade or so ago. Not sure what the differences are, but the new stock is certainly one of my favorites!
The final image is the best I have seen. Ansel Adams quality.
Thank you!
So pleasing to watch
Thank you!
Second image is just fantastic!
Thanks Matija!
Wow, beautiful. I enjoy your clarity, honesty, and results. Very helpful. Thanks.
Thanks so much Robert!

Haha, had me there for a sec.. thanks Steve!
It's good to know you have a lighter kit for more arduous hikes. ;-)
Shooting Velia requires that you embrace the darkness.
Thanks Tim! Definitely seems that is the case; as much as I appreciate the additional contrast there's certainly a tradeoff
Some of you best work I think. Great set of images from a one day trip. Wear more layers, lol.
Thanks Bryan! I definitely did not wear enough layers in there. An insulated jacket would have been a really good idea.. haha
Nice!! That is a wall hanger for sure. And I’m only halfway through the video…(talking about the first Ektar image). Second ektar is great too. I like the foreground rock. 👍
Thanks Greg! I wasn't sure at first but I agree, I thought the extra little detail was a nice addition.
Awesome!!
Thanks Carlos!
Brilliant subscribed

Thanks so much! Yep that glare on the water surface can be a real pain at times!
i think they r stunning.. good job on that
Thank you so much!
@@ChrisDarnell actually im watching the vid right now for 4th or 5th time lmao
I like this guy.. Pretty amazing stuff!:)
Thanks Steve!
Very nice
Thanks James!

Thanks for watching Paul!
Wonderful vlog and excellent images! Thank you for continuing to share your adventures.
Most welcome and thank you Thomas for watching and commenting; it really does make it all worth the while!

Nice work Chris. I love shooting in the Narrows. It seems like everywhere you look there's something interesting. The third image was a great find!
Thanks Brian! I totally agree, it really is an incredible place
I really like a lot of your water shots (from this videos and ones in the past). I like the blue along with the motion blur that goes on.
Thanks Paul! Gotta love that smooth water, especially in an area with as much color as there was!
Nice plates. The last one looks like rusting blue steel. Really nice images. Regarding the Intrepid.. stable?... ish.
Super job.
Thanks Jack! I've never done the top down in the the Narrows, only bottom up day hikes. Perhaps one day..

A really inspiring video, thank you.
Thanks Dave! I agree, I was really happy with Ektar on these. It really is magical stuff. Thanks for watching!
Looked a lot safer using that Intrepid there. Great little camera, got that model myself.
Certainly felt a lot better on the back!
Beautiful photos. I am still working on getting my technique down with the slide films. I find it harder to shoot transparency film in large format than with 35mm or 120. Great job on the photos and thanks for sharing.

Scusami ... non ho capito se usi filtri nd... grazie
Mi scuso, solo un polarizzatore sulla prima immagine

I liked the images. I think liked the first composition better than you did. I liked the first image nearly as much as the second image.
Thanks Dann!
I thought Ektar was discontinued.

Hello Chris, not seen you for a while. You OK?
Hey Kit, thanks for checking in! I'm doing good and apologies for the absence, I'll be back with a couple more videos soon!
Absolute masochism
Haha that’s very likely true
