hi rachel, do you maybe know the channel "white house on the hill"? they are doing hatching videos every now and then, and seems like they always use more than one thermo & hydrometer, as they tend to not show correct numbers, which can lead to problems... I really enjoy that you are diversifying to chimkin content over here

If I remember correctly, you can store fresh unwashed eggs for 7-10 days before incubating but 7 days really should be the cut off.
Add an .2-.5 extra day for each day after 7 days storage to hatch.
Rach I’m with Banana. Give us a biology lesson. How do the eggs get fertilized?,how do you know if it is or not? I mean I’m grown up but still confused lol.
How about cutting a piece of the foam to fit incubator.
They are a great hatchery for rare and exotic breeds!!! I’m so excited for you and this new journey! I bought my first incubator because you inspired me to not just be a chicken owner but be self sufficient!
Usually a week , after a week your fertilization drops. So you want to get them in the incubator within a weeks time from the day they where laid. Good luck with this hatch I hope you get a great hatch number.

But yes chickens and reptiles can go through suspended animation while the egg is fertile..
However,you can cryogenic the eggs,then unfreeze the zygote cell(male reproductive cell without damaging it) to then use them for fertility or fertilization ..if that's what you are asking about
They do that for 🐄 cows and 🐎 horse since they have very difficult births and it cost serious money when you lose an offspring(foal/calf respectively)

But you don't want to by chickens that have been vaccinated or vaccinate any of yours. . This is an option but a very good one.
10 days is pretty much the pushing it for egg viability. So no you wouldn't be able to incubate that are 2 months old. That would be awesome tho :)

Also i once had a easter egger (she lated brown sadly :p) and she lated a exceptionally long egg that felt like paper maché and it had a yolk and whites and a whole nother normal egg in there. i don't know how she layed it without being out of commission for the day and how the egg didn't bust open since it was fairly fragile and pretty girthy
