But the portal is under the ocean and the enderman that the player was driving opens his legs 180 degrees and begins to turn to remove the water from the middle.

Idea: Once the first Steve (with the camera) appears on the End's spawn platform, there is no second Steve to be seen. The first Steve ventures into the End island and finds that the second Steve has turned into Dream and turned against him! Would be a welcome departure from the usual ender pearl shenanigans and be a reference to the manhunt series.
