- Rotate existing text in Word by replacing it as an image then rotate to any degree and drag anywhere in your document. Create a text box that can be rotated and change the text direction to vertical.
You may know how to rotate text in Word by creating a text box, typing and formatting your text, and then using the rotation handle to rotate it to any angle and then you can drag the text box anywhere in your document. But what about rotating existing text in your document? That is not as easy, but it can be done. This video shows how to select the existing text in your document and the steps to take to convert it to an image within the document that you can then rotate, wrap, and place wherever needed. We also take a look at how to create vertical text that runs from top to bottom using a text box.

Thank you so much for your instructional video, however for me I don't get the rotational handle. Any solutions to have it displayed?
Hi Owen, what version of Word are you using? In the desktop app version of Word for Microsoft 365, when you select an image or text box it should have the rotation handle automatically. But you can also navigate to the Shape Format tab at the top of the ribbon. It should display when you have the item selected. From the Shape Format tab, you'll see an area for "Arrange" and a drop-down for "Rotate" where you can access "More rotation options" and then manually enter your desired formatting. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!
Would this technique work on a label template? I am trying to label binders.
i need place table inside text box then rotate it
I would suggest drawing your text box to the size desired, then with the cursor inside the text box, go to the Insert tab and select Table and select the number of rows and columns you want inside the text box. When you select the text box, you should see the "rotation handle" icon to be able to rotate the entire text box with the table inside. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
when I creat text box I can not see any option for rotate this is actually my big issues, please can you help me
Hello - what version of Word are you using? In M365, when you create a text box and select it, the "rotation handle" icon appears above the selected text box that you can grab and rotate with your mouse. Also, you can get to your Rotation settings once you select the text box and go to the Shape Format tab, in the Arrange section, you should see a drop-down for "Rotate" options. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
