I hope you always continue to do these vlogs for us. Also hope it catches on and subscriptions increase. You really have a fun-loving positive attitude and your videos are uplifting. Toss in the superior editing and I simply cannot wait for each episode!
Thanks a million! The world and it's people are wonderful and that's what I like to show. A few reality checks, problems and fixes here and there adds spice. As the world is not perfect.
You portray that feeling of arriving somewhere monumental well...somewhere with an importance of being a gateway to someplace new. Safe travels on the Atlantic!
It is monumental in a way. I don't like to say I'm leaving, but rather that I'm arriving. Isn't that what we do as live aboard sailors? We go places:-) I've got to catch up on your episodes! Best from Lanzarote in the Canaries.
Alex, another great adventure and freedom from the med WOOHOO. It seems sailboats require an extra of everything, especially one preparing to cross big water, good idea with the cable. It appears the Mental health sign is help together with tape (5:37) I hope that isn't a reflection of the type of service they provide ;) Fair winds and following seas.
That Mental Health place seemed in need of help itself. As well as where is was located, in an industrial part of the port. The irony was just perfect. My friend Dan being the Man when it comes to preparing boats believes a boat should have a back up of everything. To some degree that's possible with small things like a cable, and more difficult when it comes to sails, autopilot, pumps, alternators etc.
Alex, if there was one trip - so far! - that you have travelled which I would love to have accompanied you on, its this one. Always wanted to go to Gibraltar and always wanted to sail past in too. Thanks for another great video and all the best mate!
Gibraltar was on my bucket list too. Sailing around it, going into port and sailing away ticked that box. But as location, it was a bit disappointing. It's funny, places where you expect little are more interesting than the ones with a famous label. Kinda like that blockbuster movie that doesn't live up to the hype, and the little independent film that blows you away.
Oh yeah, I got that much as you went around trying to find where the workshop was and then had to go back to where you started. That sorta thing would chew at me bigtime. I dont mind hard work, but really detest being messed about by a business or person and all because it turns out they didn't know wtf they were talking about in the first place. My father went to Gib after being in Egypt at the end of WWII. He only stopped there a few nights but was amazed at all the monkeys / apes they have there. After seeing your video, I decided it would have been the perfect destination to fly to before jumping aboard Galopin ;), Setting sail and heading "generally" south. Live the dream Alex. You only get one crack at the whip, mate!
It would have been an quick walk to Galopin from the airport. That is the closest I've been to an airport runway. We wanted to see the monkeys, but we were focused on fixing the steering and continuing on.
Enjoyed the video immensely. Your innate sense of fun always shines through. My first ever negative comment on one of your videos is that your 'testing' experience with the chandlers/riggers that had you tramping back and forth across the border and back again rather soured your visit to Gibraltar. You may have of course left stuff on the editing floor but you appear to have missed out on the many interesting things to do and see in Gibraltar. Anyway, a small point and it's done now. Forward, onwards and upwards.👍⛵️
You're absolutely right. I did miss out on sights and experiences there. We thought we had an easy fix and could spend some quality tourist time, but it didn't work out that way. Our last morning, I ran out of camera battery when walking around town looking to stock up on tax free booze and smokes. Dan had to eventually go back to France, and we wanted to take advantage of a good weather window to cross the straight.
you are really something Alex: a guy from Switzerland walking around Spain with Italian sunglasses and his French friend! no girls in bikinis? but I still watch every episode!
Love the videos. We have watched every one and are watching S2E36 now. You keep mentioning "ship handlers store." Do you mean a ship's chandler store? They are often called a chandlery.
Thanks for pointing that out. It's true I've been calling the ship handler's. I'm a doofus. Sometimes I get a bit mixed up with the different languages I speak.
Dude, you are amazing, with your ability to speak so many languages. I am totally envious. We just made an offer on a 40 footer and it was accepted. Hope to meet you on the sailing grounds.
Alex I hope you read this; please cover your nose from the sun, it has changed over the course of watching you. I hope that you get it checked and start to wear some bull frog or something to cover it. PLEASE. Skin cancer for sailors is a real thing. Just looking out if you have not noticed it. Again thanks for the videos!!
I've only been full-time sailing a year, and before that was under the glare of neon lights and computer screens. Since I've been on my boat, I've never felt healthier. Lost some weight, got some muscle back and rarely stress out. And the sun feels so good. One of my cousins is head of the oncology department of a major US university. I'll have him look next time I see him. Many thanks for your concern.

Alex, Started binging your videos a couple days ago. You show that there is still hope for us FOG's. (Fricking Old Guys)

Makes perfect sense to me mate! Lets face it, if it wasn't for the steering, it would have likely been somewhere "majestic" just to sail past.
It was majestic. To think of all the sailors who've passed by for centuries.

I bet going to Tangiers is like going back in time. In a way that could be a good thing, in others it could be your worst nightmare hey.
tangiers is safer than any cit y in europe ! been there , people are so open minded u will think you are forward in time !
Another great video Alex. thanks for sharing. best from HKG
My pleasure, thank you Laurent.

No bikinis for the moment. The weather not permitting. But I'm working on it.
Great video as usual Alex :) .. I Can't wait to see the next episode looks like it is going to be wonderful.
It will be a bit different, as we navigate tiny centuries old streets.
I am sharing in your excitement at leaving the continent it's as you say really real!
Genial!!
Gracia Fredy! Ya estoy en Lanzarote. Super chevere!
Welkom to Morocca my home now for almost 3 years
Love Morocco. Wish we could have stayed there longer
Hi Alex... I just received my new ALEADER SHOES . There great...
Awesome! I just ordered some more myself!
The absurd barrier between the rock and Spain is because U.K. and Spain basically agreed to table the territorial dispute instead of resolving it.
I heard it's a centuries old dispute. And now it's a UK tax haven.

It's simple: History and Politics.
A bit of a contradiction. History and politics are usually not so simple:-)

One word Brexit!
Basta!
I think it's because it's stolen land.
Could be. But I heard Spain got Ceuta, a small piece of Morocco in return.
