Hey Andy, I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I loved this series of videos. I have been away from painting for a few months and, while I was still watching videos from many channels, your basing videos are the ones that sparked something in me. I'm hooked again and I can't thank you enough!
Looks great!
Very realistic and clean, great work!!!!
It's a awesome looking base! Thanks for the video.
For the uncured resin. It's safer to mix the resin and transfer the mixed resin to another container and mix it there again. With only one container it's possible to have some unmixed parts at the walls of it.
Maybe the vallejo water effect gel was not completely dried before you painted the resin over it so water was trapped in the gel. Those heavy gels need a long time to dry...
If you are planning to color the resin pour with some kind of paint/ink or whatever, it's a good idea to pour equal amount of water into a cup and add one drop of paint at a time until you are happy with the color of the water. That way you know how many drops of paint to add to your resin. This is handy because it's easy to add too much paint and have to mix up another batch of resin or use something you are not happy with.
I really have to commend the insight and delivery of this video series - my favourite series from the CoP to-date.
Very impressive. Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely brilliant.
This is an awesome base! The composition and paint job is spot on. Thank you for highlighting the issues you had with the water.
Future reference. Use gloss gel medium instead of water texture. It dried clear and glossy saving you the hassle. And dont waste your time with ripples from crystal resin. Another alternative is uv resin which is thicker.
Great video. Epoxy resin also doesnt stick on wax paper or silicone. Its the surface roughness that prevents a proper bonding. I think the physical effect was called the lotus leaf effect.
Thank you so much!! I think your result was amazing... about the issues you found, well you always will cuz you want perfect result and thats what make you improve!! So A+++++ for your work buddy
this is extremely inspirational. I consider myself more of an army painter. My goal is usually to get the best quality out of my models while also keeping time in mind and finding a compromise between speed and quality. It must be a nice change of pace to just invest yourself into a project fully, giving little thought to the time and focusing more on quality. Maybe I'll try it some day, your video certainly made me want to.
For heavens sake, my dude! What a great tutorial! This video has everything: step-by-step instruction, mistakes made, suggestions for how to do it better next time... I loved it. Well done. Subbed and liked on the spot.
If you use a syringe with a needle that is quite thick, and put the water effect so that you can push out perfect circulating sausages to make the waves. You will get that for a few cents at the pharmacy
Really badass Andy. I understand how you can be gutted when mistakes happen, but i honestly had not noticed, and dont think i would have. Love the result you achieved on this base
Gü pots are always useful hobby tools :D
That base is absolutely incredible Andy, I've been experimenting with water bases using Poundland epoxy, and this has been a great tutorial in how I can do it properly!
You do know that's the hard way to remove hot glue.
Simply touch some isopropyl alcohol along the edge of the hot glue and it will Wick under the 'hot snot' and it will practically fall away.
You discover these things after crashing RC aircraft too often.
These videos are really making me want to try out water effects, always been too scared to use them but it just looks so amazing.
Hi Andy, maybe using the Glass Coat over the ripple would have evened out the finish? It still looks amazing though.
Don't think I've ever got water effects to work without something going wrong somewhere
Awesome video. I'm just about to do a huge pour on my base/diorama for Blacksun's Samara & Sabertooth. Can't say I learned anything new from the video, but watching you deal with the problems you had did give me a little hint of extra confidence :)
Amazing base, thank you for sharing this knowlage:)
Thanks for sharing, It's really useful. I' ll try it very soon!
Same "dirty" effect for me (using water effect over resin), but you certainly don´t need to feel bad, it looks perfect anyway.
Looks amazing Andy well done!
No one will ever think about that misty resin bit except you. Did you mix it 100%? But you really saved it!
I can't wait to try another resin base in the future with a hot glue gun :)
5:40 A downside to using super glue on the plinth (especially if it is raw wood) is that, it will draw into the wood and discolor it and change it's finish. Sanding it down will still leave a mark, because the super glue does not solely stay on the surface of the wood. I have had this happen in a recent project and ended up using super glue on the whole plinth seal it and unify the look. I can imagine this being less of an issue when you use a plinth that has already been painted, because the paint can prevent the super glue getting into the wood.
Wow
I think the issue with the mist happened, because of the water effect not being fully dry/cured. After you sealed it in with another layer of resin, it probably stays that way. Do you remember the last time you used this method that you let the ripples cure for longer than you did this time?
We use asetate sheets when we do chocolate sculpts and decorations, the chocolate dont stick to it either
I'm looking to do something like this with a Kingdom Death Thief.
Hi Andy, I'm curious about your lumineth army and how its coming along.
I can understand why you are not happy with the misty effect, however I think it's actually more realistic looking. As the ripple kicks up dirt etc.
Were the soft parts where the air couldn't get in for whatever reason?
Regardless, great end result.
Does anyone have a link for the item for the blood effect in the water?
Does anyone know where the link is for the ink for the blood effect?
sand it back, ez XD
The dispersion of the blood and the ripple are incredible. *Chef's kiss*
