As a Golf R owner, I can honestly say that it's the best car for the money, driving wise. When I was younger I used to judge a car on how good it's numbers were (power, torque, 0-60) but nowadays I've realized it's more about how fast you can actually drive it. I own an M4 as well and although it is faster than the golf R, I feel so much more confident driving the golf R fast because it's so planted and controllable in the corners. But great content bro, keep it up!
Thank you bro will do! Yeah it is a very competent car for sure, you can definitely drive it much faster than some more powerful machinery. The only place I'd say it falls down is on outright fun though (like my S3), once you get past the initial stage of being impressed with the grip on tap you kind of just know what to expect. Still fantastic cars though for the money as you say 👍🏼
Farhaan Ahmed exactly when you get to a certain level of fast cars the numbers don't matter it's how fast you can drive it it's only top racing drivers that truly can push car to their limit that notice the difference normal people will get to a certain speed and not go any faster weather they're in a golf r or 911 turbo s, it's really about how it makes you feel and if it's a daily driver how comfortable it is and how easy it is to live with. My dad has a 911 turbo s brilliant car more a weekend thing and a Range Rover for a daily driver but he's thinking about the Ferrari 488 in the next year or so. I can decide between the new rs mountune package or a golf r in white with those wheels and a stage one map after she's run in with a few miles on it both lonely machines. Do the golfs and all vag cars still cut the power when you try to left foot brake? That always fucked me of lol
Dude, from all the douschebag reviewers we have to suffer through like Shmee, Vehicle Virgins, Doug DeMuro and so on, you're humility and matter of fact way of presenting is a breath of fresh air. Love it! Keep the reviews coming!
Top Gear should take note this is how you report on a car without all the cringing bullshit stupidity they think is so funny. It’s not funny it’s just annoying.
This is honestly one of the best car reviews I've ever come across. Properly knowledgable and relevant comparisons which are actually useful to ordinary car buyers. So different to all the other carbon copy reviewers on UA-cam. Maybe just throw in a few headline stats comparisons like price, power and speed and also cost of some of the main specs. But overall this is top quality content!
Out of all the reviews I’ve watched. Thank you not only reviewing the car, with your quality opinion (loved this thank you) but thank you for driving the car properly!!! Legend bro.
As a GTI owner this is a fun video to watch. You are obviously very enthusiastic about driving and VW/Audi. And by the way, Ramadan Mubarak to you (hope I got that right). Nice car and good video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it pal! Definitely do love VAG group cars and just driving in general so its cool it came across on the video! And yes you got it right, thank you mate! 👍🏼
I was stuck between choosing the golf r mk7 and the scirocco r. Both handle and perform really well. Golf r is slightly quicker and has awd. I went for the scirocco in the end mainly for rarity and I think it looks awesome. You don't see many of them about. Both brilliant cars.
Oh the pain, I'm thinking of buying one of these and just test drove a few used S3 and Golf Rs and I can't decide. Golf R is much more fun and practical, but the S3's interior and exterior looks so much nicer. And that Bang and Olufsen in the S3 is so smooth! Help.....
elle Jay It’s sad, the short story is I couldn’t fine a nice S3 or Golf R. Keep reading for the long story... I went to a few dealerships and test drove a bunch of certified models, but for some strange reason they were all in bad condition. I decided on used models because a have a few friends who have new GTIs and I decided a new Golf R/S3 wasn’t worth it. Anyways back to the certified cars, one had a trunk full of dog hair. It looked liked they didn’t even wash or vacuumed the car. And the one clean Golf R I did find was stuck in FWD. Yeah I know, I was like WTF!?!? What happened was we found quiet road to try launch control, but when I launched the R it was going more sideways than going forward! I turned to look at the salesman and he played it cool telling me “that’s normal”... There was so much smoke I had to wait a few seconds for it all to blow away because I couldn’t see past the hood. So after a little research, I read that a few guys were talking about the Haldex system problems. Since I drive cars at 11/10 all day I was really worried about the Haldex system failure and gave up on the Golf R & S3. I eventually test drove a dozen more cars, crossovers, & SUVs from N. LA down to El Cajon! Oh by the way, most of the time I’m dragging my wife and two toddlers with me. Eventually I gave up looking and bought the cleanest certified car I could find, a two year old BMW X4 28i. I drove a few 35i and decided I liked the way the 28i feels, after looking up the weight balance. My bottom was right, the 28i has a slight rearward weigh balance. My X4 new 20” summer P-zeros with 275 wide rears, I love wide sticky tires! I know the X4 is strange looking but it’s so balanced, it drives better than the 2017 330i. Last summer I got to auto-cross the X4 and beat a bunch of modified “race” cars including a S2000 and a 492 Challenger! But I couldn’t catch all the cars that had slicks, and yeah one of them was a S3. Since then my wife took my X4 and gave me her old 2012 X5 35d. It’s almost time to replace the X5. I wonder how those S5 & S7 drive... anyone want to join me?!?!
I have owned Golf R only for three months and I love it so very much. It's not only a good performer but very comfortable to drive around the city. A tone of legroom in for the back passengers. Problem is, I get constantly challenged by Subaru STI and Honda type -R owners. Once I lost my temper and got into a drag race with a dressed-up STI. He was taught a lesson not to forget.
An accurate description about how they handle corners,i love how you can power through corners in the wet and it just asks for more throttle yet feels so safe, i have lowered mine on Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs which also helps Its a weapon when it comes to tighter mountain type driving and the power upgrade just throws it from corner to corner..
It really does look nice in black . My Son has just bought the Golf R in blue , Always nice to hear how good they are . I would like to compare his Golf R with my car on a back road to see how good they really are . Good video by the way , Keep it up buddy .
Love the sound of that engine. Volkswagen hasn't forgotten how to build a true driver's sports car. I use to own many BMW's but their business model changed to a bulkier, less connected to the driver car. These Volkswagens seem more exciting to drive. The R is definitely one of the better cars out there. Good video !!
I just drove the MK7 GTI and it blew me away, especially on twisty roads. It just gives you confidence to push boundaries. Now I would so love to get my hands on the R. Ramadan Mubarak to you brother!
I have to confess this is a nicer looking R than mine and there was me thinking mine was the biz in the white full spec .. I'll get a black next time. Great vids !!
Love these "real" people reviewers like hamza and living life fast. Recently all dem rich white youts (shmee jww seen through glass etc) and their super Cars are pissing me off recently. All millionaires talking shit. Totally out of touch from reality
First time watching your videos mate and really enjoyed it, such a genuine review and reviewer, earned yourself a subscriber 👍🏻 My mates got the Golf R in Lapiz Blue and I love the pops from the exhaust when gearing down in sport, sounds like a popcorn machine 😂😂
Damn bro. I Miss my R now. I had a tuned OZ racing Golf R. First time I took the R for a test drive I was shocked. The comfort is really good. The interior and entertainment system were superb too. You didn't mention the ambient lighting inside (the lightstrip in the doors) was surprised by that too. I guess the only problem with the R is the small engine. You can notice the revs don't get up too high. When you rev the engine it goes from loud to soft revs in an instant. If you get what I mean. Overall the car is 9/10
I have a facelift s3 and compared to other 4wd cars I’ve owned and driven, you have to really drive it .. sometimes the steering doesn’t give you genuine feedback and you get that feeling you aren’t getting 100% from it.. that being said the grip is phenomenal , I’m running Dunlop sport maxx’s on 18s and compared got the other s3’s I drove before mine that were running on hankooks they are the best tyre for this car, my dad runs them on his e92 M3 now and he says they have changed the car - and that’s coming from a veteran racing driver .. Maybe this particular golf just has the perfect setup for a 5 dr with that little extra weight to it? I’m intrueged to drive one now after this vid And feel the differences, cool video mate really enjoyed it
Although I have not driven the Golf 7R, I wish I had before getting my FL S3 8V, having seen this video. But your assessment of the S3 is spot on. I have a mag-ride S3 and it's suspension is crashy but also bouncy - even in dynamic mode!! Audi have done a poor job in my opinion. I have come from an S3 8P and I'm also a Golf 6R owner, and both those cars handle U.K. roads better than this FL S3. Very disappointed with its handling.
Glad you agree pal, it is really strange isn't it! In dynamic it stiffens up and you think you're gonna demolish a back road and then all of a sudden you're bouncing around over little imperfections. Doesn't inspire confidence, but then again I guess Ive only noticed it when trying to cover ground at a decent pace. I thought initially that its just the way its supposed to be but after driving this R it has made it really noticeable.
What width tires are on your S3 because im sure on these golf r upgraded alloys thats on this car your driving the tires are 235 width and the standard 5 spoke wheels you get with a golf r are 225 width. Correct me if im wrong but im sure im right. Theres a guy down the street with a S3 simular wheels to your S3 might be the same and his tires are 225 width. The wider tires on the golf r upgraded alloys would give alittle bit more grip in corners wouldnt they?
Yeah mine are 225, I do believe the tyre/wheel setup on this did help with feel as it had Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's on it whereas my S3 has factory Bridgestones which are pretty average. Gonna change eventually, but the suspension setup on the R is something that I doubt I could replicate.
The S3 sedan is significantly more planted and better handling than the hatch. The golf R is much better than the S3 hatch, but the sedan is better all round car. Golf R is more fun but the sedan is better to live with daily and I've never had a moment that the car was not 100% planted. Also Audi is obviously better quality, it's the expensive big brother.
Top review. 100% correct. i drove the prefacelift s3 before i bought my prefacelift golf r. The only reason i bought the R was because it gives u confidence when on the edge. The ones with DCC make it even more Racey or soft/smooth.
Honest quote, it's more nimble, agile, better power to weight ratio and 15 grand cheaper than a RS3 and a supple ride unlike line suspension which is too hard. Golf over the Audi any day :)
Yeah the RS3 does ride quite hard, this had similar ride to my S3 mind, the R is definitely the drivers choice but for other things like tech, interior quality and engine sound the Audi's are superior.
Like your vids. Personally I think the difference your experiencing is your Audi is few notches up in build quality. The reason why you find this a better driver car and abit more fun. Is it's stripped down abit. You prob hear more engine noise, feel a few more bumps on the road. Basically just connecting you to the driving experience a little more. I drive a 2012 Skoda Fabia VRS 1.4 tsi. I'll be honest the build quality is pretty poor. But with that I get alot of drama and fun out of that car. I drove a Masserati quattroporto S. Luxurious fast car. But from zero to 100 the fun factor is pretty much the same as what i get from my Rattly VRS
The rs3 is a beast, it is certainly a much nicer car, but then again it is about 40k more. Personally, I wouldn't go for the rs3 as I can't justify the price difference. I'd rather get an mk7 R or an s3 and upgrade them to stage 3+.
Nobody is talking about maintenance costs so stop with all that waffle, also you can compare the price of a used car all you want but were not talking about used cars are we, were talking about retail for new cars... stop trying to make an argument out of irrelevant things smh
No its not at all, the discussion was about retail price and its worthiness of what you get in stock form, nothing to do with maintenance costs. the rs3 doesn't just have the power output, its has the legendary 5 cylinder engine, better drivetrain, better brakes, just a better package in terms of its mechanicals also being more exclusive, saying that, id prefer a 3dr car
What is the gospel of Jesus Christ? The word gospel means “good news,” so the gospel of Christ is the good news of His coming to provide forgiveness of sins for all who will believe. Since the beginning of time when the first man sinned, mankind has been under the condemnation of God. Because everyone breaks God’s perfect law by committing sin, everyone is guilty. The punishment for the crime of sin is physical death and then an eternity spent in a place of eternal punishment . This eternal separation from God is also called the “second death”. The fact that all are guilty of sin and condemned to spend eternity in a place of torment is very bad news. But God, because of His love for the world, has made a way for man to be forgiven for their sins. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the sins of man on Himself through death on a cross. In placing our sin on Christ, God ensured that all who will believe in the name of Jesus will be forgiven. This is the gospel of Jesus Christ, the good news that God provided the way for man to be freed from the penalty of sin. But not all people will be saved from hell; only those who place their faith in Jesus will go to heaven when they die. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news anyone will ever hear, and what a person does with this news will determine where he or she spends eternity. God is calling you to choose life. Call on the name of the Lord and be saved!
Great review, I own a 2012 Mk 6 that's tuned by APR (Audi Performance and Racing) to Stage 2+ which produces about 370 hp. Previous to this I had a Mk 6 GTI that was also tuned with the K04 turbo which is the one that comes in the R. It was quicker than my R since it's much lighter due to it's FWD system rather than AWD that is standard in the R. It also had the DSG transmission and I had it modded so that there was very little slippage on a launch. My R is manual transmission which is a little funner to drive, but no where near as fast as the lightning quick gear changes with the DSG (I also had the TCU tuned through APR). Unfortunately my GTI was totaled when I fell asleep at the wheel while on my way home from my first track day. To anyone that decides to take your car to the track for the fist time, make sure you don't have a 2 hour drive afterwards. Your adrenaline and sweat is pumping all day and when you stop, you crash hard and so does your car. I'm lucky I didn't die OR kill someone. Get a room at a local hotel! Anyway, l loved both cars equally since they both have different advantages. The GTI is a better bang for the bucks car, but in the winter while living in a snowy area, the R's AWD gives you a lot of fun and confidence. However, nothing beats a sleeper like a modded out GTI for highway competitions. Seeing the reaction on the drivers face after beating his more expensive sports car or muscle, is priceless!
i bought my golf R in 2014 May in australia i test drove both an S3 and Golf R back to back and found the R was lot better value for money and felt faster pulling at low range. Mine came with the leather seat and sunroof and adaptive suspension and adaptive cruze control. i have had the car just over three years now and still love it just as much as day one. its a great drivers car. The only thing i preferred on the S3 was the red brake calipers look better and the seats look better. everything else was better on the R. I could of chosen either car but the $10,000 au dollars extra was not worth it.
Good video chap. I have the Golf GTI with high spec like this as agree the basic R does not look so special inside. Have the 3 door though as think that the 3 door adds something to the looks of the golf.
While I can't afford one (yet at least), I am jealous of the fact that you guys in Europe get to have a sunroof. I also would get one in black if I could.
Good video mate. I remember reading a big hot hatch shootout in TG magazine a few years ago and this car was considered the best all rounder. I like these cars for their handling but for looks and interior the Audi A3 is king of the hot hatches.
Hamza keep continue what ur doing. This is pretty wierd, I was looking for a Type R FK2, then u uploaded a common clip with that car. NOW, me and my friend was like ok YES we must buy the VW Golf R with an Miltek/Stertman exhaust. And here we go again, Thank you TR Hamza! :) King man, greetings from Sweden
Haha thanks will keep the videos coming! Damn that is pretty cool that my videos have been conveniently timed at when you're looking at those specific cars, No problem mate! :)
1993eML if you haven't driven the Type R do so and the Golf R relatively soon after then I think you'll be surprised just how good the Civic is in comparison. Don't assume the awd system means it's faster or handles better because it simply doesn't but it is a much more liveable discreet looking all rounder.
How dark is the windscreen tinted? Looks like M3 Crystaline. Mine is 40% and looks freakin' amazing, not to mention I dont have to have sunglasses on, EVER!
It truly is a shame that the North American golf R doesn't get the panoramic sunroof or power folding mirrors. And finally we also can't get the akrapovic exhaust which is an option in Europe. Great video and keep up the good work. Can't wait for you to test the new Honda Civic type R.
Not even as an option. Apparently the sunroof option did not pass crash testing here. Not only that they locked the centre console storage so it can't be used. However some people have unlocked it but the ratcheting feature doesn't work then.
Its not only a glass on the roof!its the best extra option that you can put on a car especially on such car! I have a panoramic roof on my polo!its pity to spend such amount of money and not putting panoramic roof, its a must!
I owned Golf R Estate and s3 saloon, the Golf R was more fun! Both 400+bhp DSG - DNA Tuned. 7 speed in the s3 makes it a 200+mph car though, where the Golf would hit the limiter at 190.
I have a question: on the shifter boot, there are two buttons on the left side of the shifter that VW REMOVED from US-market R and GTI models. What are those buttons for? I have a 2016 GTI. If I had the money, I would have gotten the R with a manual. My GTI has one and it's so easy to push the car hard. You know that "bang" you hear from your mufflers when you slam the accelerator? The GTI does it. I was shocked to hear that at first. I think you have to keep the traction control on or you'll just sit and spin your wheels.
Still find it strange how you can get the recaro wingbacks in the scirocco R as an option but there is no wingback option in the golf R which is a shame
Great video mate! Any chance of you reviewing the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS? I know it's not similar to the cars you usually review, but I'm keen to see what you think of our AUS made cars LOL
Liked your review I have a mk7 in gray with all the bits apart from sun roof & in estate version. Possibly one of the best hot estate cars you can bye for the money, would like to see you review the estate!!
Hi. Can you tell me the difference between 2015-2017 plus? Not sure if it’s worth to spend the extra on the facelift which is believe to be from 2017? If I’m correct. Thanks
Brilliant video as usual. We get to hear all the bits we need without the fluff. I'd rather it be that (not sure about how others feel) you keep the factual stuff out as any kid in any street could tell those (well the basic ones anyway). Curious: Any chance you can get hold of a Cupra? And compare against the Golf R or S3? (The driving feel ofc). Thanks ! Ramadan Mubarak.
Thanks pal, yeah thats why i tend to avoid just reading facts off a sheet as anyone can do it, but its good to get an idea of what people want, Ill just carry on as normal with the real driving impressions and what you want to hear 👍🏼 And yes I am able to get hold of a Cupra, will do something eventually Im sure of it, especially after driving this R I am a bit more curious myself. And thanks Ramadan Mubarak to you too.
How does it compare to a M235i/M240i? I test drove both but the BMW just edged it as there was more standard kit for your cash, inc leather. The BMW is perhaps a bit better inside, but it was a close run thing for me to decide. The BMW is also rarer and looks more aggressive. I really want a R and a M240i.....but i'm not a millionaire lol Next time.....well the MK8 Golf R is in my sights for 2019.
+DaveClass47 The M235i/M240i are great cars and definitely good value for money, spent a fair amount of time with them. For me personally I'd have the R, I find it a more aggressive car to drive and 'hot hatch' like, not to mention the 4WD. Those cars are more GT car like in their nature, smooth and lovely cruisers with sporting edge. I also prefer the DSG in the R to the ZF8 in those cars.
I have the Sports transmission in the M235, it is an absolute gem! I can drive the bmw for hours and not get out feeling tired. Its just a fantastic all round sports car. Its like Concorde, without wings lol. The acceleration is all that I will ever need and more. The Golf R sounds more 'rough' and edgy when driving it normally. Oh, its going to be a tough decision in 2019...the new R or the nex gen 2 series! better get saving! But what really annoys me about the BMW....they keep tweaking and upgrading, soon after I got my M235 they rebadged it the MK240i, now 6 months later it gets another tweak. I don't like how the VW only have 5 years for a run of a certain model, but at least they only facelift it once!
Hope you guys found this video useful! There's definitely enough differences between each car. If you want YOUR Car on the channel email me at: 'hamza_trh@hotmail.com'

The sound you hear is not the engine it's a speaker that vibrates against the bulkhead and most VAG group cars have this
I just drove the MK7 GTI and it blew me away, especially on twisty roads. It just gives you confidence to push boundaries. Now I would so love to get my hands on the R.
Ramadan Mubarak to you brother!
Definitely, really does inspire confidence. And thanks brother you too!
Nice vid man - the MKVII Golfs are really well balanced and planted, I agree.
I have to confess this is a nicer looking R than mine and there was me thinking mine was the biz in the white full spec .. I'll get a black next time. Great vids !!
So did you get a black R or still have the white one?
Definite thumbs-up, from a North American GTI driver. Cheers!
+Jon Richt Thanks pal! Awesome to hear you're watching from the states 👍🏼
Love these "real" people reviewers like hamza and living life fast. Recently all dem rich white youts (shmee jww seen through glass etc) and their super Cars are pissing me off recently. All millionaires talking shit. Totally out of touch from reality
Thanks bro loving the support 👍🏼 Im more of fan of obtainable sports cars than supercars too.
Can't wait to see them both slowly moving up the cars and making their cars better too
LondonInHD parker from vehicle virgins especially, try to kid themselves thinking they earned those millions when daddys wallet was unlimited
LondonInHD how about all those black rappers, same shit
LondonInHD Bro what you on about lol
You convinced me 😂 it turned out that you were 💯 right about handling and having so much fun in R
Oh my god what a beautiful machine , cannot wait to pick mine up in a few months
This is why they get such good reviews and I have one and the smile says it all again. good review 🖒
Thanks pal, fantastic cars for sure!
First time watching your videos mate and really enjoyed it, such a genuine review and reviewer, earned yourself a subscriber 👍🏻
My mates got the Golf R in Lapiz Blue and I love the pops from the exhaust when gearing down in sport, sounds like a popcorn machine 😂😂
Top Gear host next year? Enjoying the vids pal, great stuff :)
Haha high praise pal! Thanks :)
I’m intrueged to drive one now after this vid And feel the differences, cool video mate really enjoyed it
Damn man, the R looks sweet.. Hmm special video before Ramadan starts.. Hmm insha Allah Ramadan goes good for you..
Yeah really did look good! And i'A bro, you too 👍🏼
Although I have not driven the Golf 7R, I wish I had before getting my FL S3 8V, having seen this video.
Love your videos TR-you have a very watchable manner. Would love to see you review a Focus RS. Keep up the good work!
Thanks pal, appreciate the support. And luckily for you I drove a Focus RS last week! The video should go live this week :)
Manual R for skilled drivers like mines over that boring transmission any day. Great vid!
benedict cruz I got my Golf GTI with a manual but that DSG is sweetness. If I got an R I think I would go DSG for the uninterrupted boost alone.
Enjoyed the review, get my facelifted R next week - excited and can't wait!
Thanks pal, hope you enjoy yours!
Top review. 100% correct. i drove the prefacelift s3 before i bought my prefacelift golf r. The only reason i bought the R was because it gives u confidence when on the edge. The ones with DCC make it even more Racey or soft/smooth.
Glad you agree pal, R does definitely inspire more confidence on the limit for sure. Im going to drive a DCC car soon to experience the difference.
where is the focus RS video.
Quality content as always Hamza
Thank you mate!
top spec on the golf r looks great i think the sunroofs look good on the golf and the audi.
Yeah serious spec, 40k I believe it was priced up to which is a lot!
Would you say this is the perfect daily
Excellent review! If you ever got bored or the power, you do some work to it. That's the beauty as well
+Francois DuJour Thanks! And I agree, so many options to improve it
TR,
Good video man and a non biased view in comparison even against the S3 Facelift and more power.
Thank you mate, glad you liked it.
Prob will buy an RS3 sedan soon. But think i will keep my fabia. Turn it into a track car haha
Funny story. I'm in the same boat. Lease ending on my Audi S3... but want to switch to the Golf R
Thoses carbon effect leather seats are horrid! The plain black leather looks miles better.
Damn, horrid is a bit of a strong word isnt it lol, they ain't THAT bad 😂
The rs3 is a beast, it is certainly a much nicer car, but then again it is about 40k more. Personally, I wouldn't go for the rs3 as I can't justify the price difference. I'd rather get an mk7 R or an s3 and upgrade them to stage 3+.
in the uk the rs3 starts from 40k and the golf r starts from 30k, only a 10k difference, in light of new car prices, its worth it
Nobody is talking about maintenance costs so stop with all that waffle, also you can compare the price of a used car all you want but were not talking about used cars are we, were talking about retail for new cars... stop trying to make an argument out of irrelevant things smh
That spec is incredible
Indeed!
Everything in this review is everything i would ever wanna see and know about a car. Top job. Ive never ever seen one with a panoramic roof before
Just picked up a 2018, love the changes made from last year. (7-speed DSG/new LED lights/front and rear body changes/New entertainment screen)
New Mk7 R owner and a new subscriber 👍
Ramadan mubarak to you hamza and everyone else reading this
Thank you bro you too 👍🏼
What is the gospel of Jesus Christ?
Albert bro
Karl Adler I run stage 1+ should I got to stage 2
Love your videos bro and your insight to these cars so thanks 😊
Hamza you make some great videos thanks for the content! 👍
+CARL IS ONIT Thank you mate! love the support 👍🏼
Love your work keep it up man you're great on camera
Thanks man, appreciate the kind words, will keep the content coming 🙌🏽
2:05 absolute facts.. stock R's don't look near aggressive or unique enough
i bought my golf R in 2014 May in australia i test drove both an S3 and Golf R back to back and found the R was lot better value for money and felt faster pulling at low range.
Good vid mate its what I'm wanting next looks so good behind you at the end info is top and the smile while driving says it all keep it up
That golf is stunning!
Good video chap. I have the Golf GTI with high spec like this as agree the basic R does not look so special inside. Have the 3 door though as think that the 3 door adds something to the looks of the golf.
Thanks pal! Yeah Base R looks so plain, I actually think the GTI looks better with its red trim etc, only when specced like this does the R shine.
While I can't afford one (yet at least), I am jealous of the fact that you guys in Europe get to have a sunroof. I also would get one in black if I could.
It is strange you guys don't get a sunroof, such a simple thing too.
One thing I never understood with the golf r is why they dropped them wingback leather seats there so mint
Nice video.! Future TV presenter in the making. Keep up the good work!
Haha thanks! Maybe one day! Love the support mate
Great video man, thanks. I'm thinking about a Golf R 7.5 for my new daily... lots of great sounds and downshifts.. I'm surprised. Thanks again.
Nice one bro, wicked content! Seeing the videos of the Golf R and your S3 makes my MK7 GTD feel slow lol
dbicon23 LOVE the GTD!!! We can't get anything half this cool here. Can't you chip it? Should last forever, being a diesel.
Jonathan Reed even chipped gtd is nothing compared to gti.
Thanks bro appreciate it! Yeah the S3 and R are very fast cars but the GTD is still great for daily use, and I'm sure you use way less fuel haha!
I've become obsessed with this car
Good video mate. I remember reading a big hot hatch shootout in TG magazine a few years ago and this car was considered the best all rounder. I like these cars for their handling but for looks and interior the Audi A3 is king of the hot hatches.
Thanks mate, yeah it is a very competent drivers car, really grips very well. The Audi does have a better interior and also sounds better.
Mine is 40% and looks freakin' amazing, not to mention I dont have to have sunglasses on, EVER!
ramadhaan mubarak watching this before sehri.. great video keep it up bhai :) all the best in sha allah
You too brother! will keep the videos coming 👍🏼
it feels more solid in bends because of its shorter wheelbase this means the car does quicker and better than the longer base S3 in bends
It truly is a shame that the North American golf R doesn't get the panoramic sunroof or power folding mirrors. And finally we also can't get the akrapovic exhaust which is an option in Europe. Great video and keep up the good work.
Can't wait for you to test the new Honda Civic type R.
not even as an optional extra?
Not even as an option. Apparently the sunroof option did not pass crash testing here. Not only that they locked the centre console storage so it can't be used. However some people have unlocked it but the ratcheting feature doesn't work then.
wow they might aswell lock the glove box! you have strict laws on safety surprisingly, considering your convict past!!!
I think the not having the sunroof option is nothing to do with crash testing but to do with the size of the wheels and emissions...
there is no sense to pick akrapovic as an option, for 3000 euro you can install much better exhaust.
Well done! Good feedback, including some of the technical as to "why" the feedback is what it is. Well done! (I have an 04 R32!)
I like your videos man good stuff. I own a facelift A3 myself, not as fast as your S3 but still love it!
Thanks man, yeah the facelift A3 model range is really nice!
Great vid! From a fan in NZ! Yeh like the anecdotal type of review, most of them out there just read specs and they are boring as hell!
Man, wish we had that sweet sunroof in the USA. Love my golf r though.
Golf R is my choice of hot hatches looks awsome, Great car with high spec, great review as allways 👍
I think you have to keep the traction control on or you'll just sit and spin your wheels.
like this - very informative and honest. keep it coming.
Thank you mate, will keep em coming!
Love your videos. Another great review.
Favourite channel by far!!! Another amazing video bro, keep it up!!
Loving the support bro!! Glad you're enjoying the stuff Im putting out for ya 👍🏼
Enjoyed that- nice, objective review. A review like this (plus briefly on running costs) for the latest RS3 would be great if poss. Thanks.
Thank you mate. Yeah thats the plan, when the new RS3 lands I will be trying my best to get hold of one.
TR Hamza That'd be much appreciated- look forward to it. Your reviews are great with a v natural, relaxed style- keep it up.
No problem, glad you're enjoying them pal, will keep them coming :)
Really well done my brother, keep it up!
Thank you mate! Haha I wouldn't mind as they are pretty cool, just doubt anyone has one over here, they look very fun thats for sure lol
Liked your review I have a mk7 in gray with all the bits apart from sun roof & in estate version. Possibly one of the best hot estate cars you can bye for the money, would like to see you review the estate!!
Nice review, and now I want to go out and buy one. Maybe I'll wait until you test the refreshed '18.
Thanks dude, definitely a good purchase. Ive done a brief video on the '18 on my channel but haven't driven it yet, will do very soon 👍🏼
I have the Mk6-R now. Great car, but the mk7 is a clear step forward. I'll be interested to know what you think of the '18 mk7.
Hamza the Golf R doesnt have Magnetic Suspension so its more track orientated. The S3 is a better ride but softer. :)
Facelift one in blue with same wheels, i love this car
Greetings from Hong Kong - your video helped swing my decision to buy a 2015 Golf R! Keep up the good work fella.
Hi. Can you tell me the difference between 2015-2017 plus? Not sure if it’s worth to spend the extra on the facelift which is believe to be from 2017? If I’m correct. Thanks
Ur a calm guy bro keep up with the good content wish I could be doing what ur doing❤️
9.24 - No Handed!! What a Legend, ROFL
Haha I only noticed now that you pointed it out! 😂
Is it not possible to change the springs/suspension on the Audi (or whatever the differences are) to make it drive like the Golf? Even aftermarket?
Brilliant video as usual. We get to hear all the bits we need without the fluff. I'd rather it be that (not sure about how others feel) you keep the factual stuff out as any kid in any street could tell those (well the basic ones anyway).
Curious: Any chance you can get hold of a Cupra? And compare against the Golf R or S3? (The driving feel ofc).
Thanks ! Ramadan Mubarak.
Thanks pal, yeah thats why i tend to avoid just reading facts off a sheet as anyone can do it, but its good to get an idea of what people want, Ill just carry on as normal with the real driving impressions and what you want to hear 👍🏼
And yes I am able to get hold of a Cupra, will do something eventually Im sure of it, especially after driving this R I am a bit more curious myself.
Would never have thought the R competed so hard against the 3.
