I would love to see more tutorials on the Control 4 programming. I am relatively new to control 4 and programing. If you have time to show us different aspects of the lighting, AV setups, controller tips and tricks etc. Anything that would educate us new C4 programmers. Thank You and keep up the great work!
Hey Dennis! Just wanted to thanks for this video! Perfect length and simple. I have looked high and low for instruction like this. I will make this one of my regular UA-cam hangouts!
Great Video - just bought a control 4 system with the HC-800 as the HC and using it for more audio and video today. Any idea how i can get composer pro as i am looking to build out my AV in the home and wanting to add devices? thx
Hey Chad! No idea how I overlooked this comment for so long. Apologies! At any rate, when I was going through Control4 dealer training, there was actually a homeowner in my class, who was attending training with one of his installer's new techs. As far as I know, there's no way to get your hands on a license without going through the dealer training.
*****, in my experience, it's best to go with Platinum or Gold dealers if you have one in your area. The dealer search tool on Control4.com categorizes them thusly. My initial install was handled by an Authorized (neither Gold nor Platinum) dealer, and I honestly had to delete all of the programming and start from scratch as soon as he left my house.
hi Dennis really helpful and useful, many thanks. i am just getting ion to this as my installer has gone awol and left me high and dry, with expensive hardware that is not working !!!!
Hey Dennis, Thank you for the informative video on C4 Composure HE programming. I have a quick question for you. The contractor who programmed our C4 system has the password for the program. He won't respond out request for simple changes to existing programming. He won't give me the program password. How can I get hold of my C4 program password? I do subscribe to C4 4Sight recurring license. Thank you.
Such a disappointment. Really sorry this has happened to you. I visited a Control4 showroom for the first time just yesterday and discovered that the programming had to be done by a trained and certified programmer. Fortunately, as videos like this make clear, this is not the case. I want to install an programmable system in our new home but would not ever be happy with not being able to do my own programming. I've got a lot to learn about these modern home automation systems. Hopefully you are able to gain control of your own system.
Hey Dennis, I'm actually looking into trying to get a lead programmer position at a company that handles full home/business automation using Control4, and I've got (unfortunately) very lacking experience. It's something I've been quite interested in for a while, but I'm just not quite sure where to start. It seems like to get/use/train with Control4 you need to go through their own training system, I'm just curious if there's anything else I can be doing on my end before I do that to "give me a leg up" per se. If you've got any advice, no matter how basic or complex, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks, Dennis. Awesome tutorial! I recently swapped out one of my Comcast Cable boxes for a new Xfinity X1 box (RNG150N). Unfortunately, the infrared signal coming from the Control 4 no longer controls this box. The box is setup in Composer HE as a Motorola DCT-6142. I figure I can't change box model number using Composer HE, but can I modify the IR codes to get it to work? Thanks!
Hi Dennis,I would like to know if the Control 4 can interface with a RS485 Serial Communication as a standard feature. If not how does this communicat with HVAC units that uses that paltform?
hi dennis, are there any other videos you'd recommend I watch to get a better high level understanding on how to use the composer home edition. I just downloaded the software and am looking to really learn how to create scenes. Thanks!
Hey David! I have one other video that might give you some insight into how scenes work. ua-cam.com/video/29-qscbo-3w/v-deo.html Start at about the 4:20 mark. Sadly, I no longer work for the publication that I did these video tutorials for, but I could always do a few more on my own! Not sure when I'll have time, but if you have any specific questions, I'll do my best to tackle them.
Really great video Dennis. I have a party scene and I want a fountain in my pool to come on whenever I turn on that lighting scene. How would I do that? Everything is controlled with Control 4.
Hey Haamid, Does your fountain have a relay connection? If so, both the HC-800 and the HC-250 have relay control connections. Your dealer would simply have to add the fountain to your system. I just checked, and there is a generic relay driver for fountains in the Composer Pro software.
Hi Dennis. have you ever had some experience with integration of Z-Wave and plex in a ctrl4 system? I know there are drivers avaliable, but do you think they would work well within the system? - L

Dennis do you recommend any links to learning Composer Pro?
If I get a new Control 4 remote to replace a broken remote......how do i program it?

Unfortunately, no, you'll need a dealer for that. :(

Lion Paw, not as a standard feature, but I do know that Somfy offers RS485 interfaces, and Control4 does have drivers for them.
