The problem with 6v6 is that they didn't balance Overwatch for 3 years because they were working on Overwatch 2 content (which ended up getting scrapped anyway), so Double Barrier compositions dominated which really hurt the Tank playerbase. Then, to fix the queue times caused by that, they made it so only one Tank was needed per team, but this made Tank worse to play, also hurting the playerbase. If they had just balanced 6v6 Tanks, there would be no problem, but because they've done 5v5 the Tank playerbase may actually be too small to reverse it. That said, 6v6 was a much better experience for Tanks and a better game overall.
If they just did the Orisa rework she got in OW2 in OW1 double shield would have been dead, half of the strat relied on her barrier so without it double shield is impossible or at least useless. Rein can't attack while shielding and Winston has a fragile barrier and is useless for poke. Of the 3 new tanks, only Ram has a barrier and it's on a long cooldown with a limited healthpool and timer, forcing him to brawl half the time.
Double shield meta was like 40% tank issue 60% support issue. Bap and Brig made it so that all of the sustain abilities stacking with AOE sustain and healing cycling on top of each other created unbreakable setups. In high elo, playing double shield with an Ana was completely troll because she doesn't have the sustain necessary to enable the unkillable comp. I know this point has been spouted over and over (trust me I'm tired of it too) but it's just the truth. Sincerely, GM player since OW1.
Dude hard agree with your first rant here. I'm a Winston main in T500 now, and the issue like you said is that all of the incentive in the world is for the other team to fuck me as hard as possible, because the instant a tank drops dead, the teamfight is lost (unless your team can kill their tank in the next 1-2 seconds). Buffing the tanks just makes it even MORE necessary to focus me to the exclusion of all else. I'm not even sure what the solution is tbh. Maybe if tanks were less lethal it would actually help in some ways to make us less of a threat? I sure as hell know that 2x tanks isn't the answer though. The last thing on earth I want to do is play tank after they chop off 200-300hp, make me take more damage (extra tank on enemy team means a lot more dmg into me), and make me share support resources. Tanking in OW1 was a lot more miserable than OW2. I played Winston in both iterations and he is 10x more enjoyable now.

The slow introduction of CC back into overwatch just makes it worse as well (Brig shield stun, Cass nade, mei slowdown etc) No matter how strong they make tanks your always going to receive every last cool down which just makes the experience not worth it 🥶

I looked at all the old patch notes of ow2 and didn't see it introduced as late as you mention (s7-8). But yeah, the s5 patch shows it's been around and at 50% for as long as OW2 has launched. Edit: Yeah, I did a bunch of research and the slow on primary came with her mini rework with ow2's launch.
Me has always had the slow on primary fire in OW2, its current value is 30% but for less than a season she got a slight rework that brought in the deep freeze mechanic, which started at a low slowing value but ramped up to like 75% slow, and did an extra burst of damage when you hit the frozen enemy with an icicle or melee. I personally liked deep freeze, and it would probably be balanced if she had only a 20% slow and a little lower dps on primary fire, and no ramping slow effect.

how do you even enjoy the game as damage role player? you have to go through 50 different shields and defense abilities to even hit the backline and games lasting longer than they needs to be cause one tank will be able to stall longer till the next tank arrives, and as support it must suck too when DVA dives on you without caring a single thing about the objective since there is a second tank. imo it must be very boring that time, I enjoy 5v5 so I didn't buy OW after trying it on my friend's account and free weekends back in 6v6 days, the games felt boring to me, may be because I wasn't a dedicated player like the ones playing the game back then but as a new player that is not fun.
@@Rizingfz08 In OW2 we have one tank on each team that has the combined strength of 2 tanks from OW1. Every tank has had their health pools massively increased and abilities buffed. Shooting a raidboss tank as a DPS often doesn't feel like it's doing anything because they've had to keep buffing the survivability over and over. OW2 has less stuns and CC than OW1 but now that one tank gets hit by all of it on top of the rampant counter swapping that they tried to fix for the longest time till Blizzard just gave up andsaid that it was their intent all along. The tank experience is awful because you're being hard focused without any second tank to help cover for you on top of the rampant counter swapping that you can't do anything about because as a solo tank your weaknesses are so easily exploited. The DPS experience is awful because killing the enemy tank is such a massive advantage but when actually shooting the tank doesn't feel like you're having an impact at all. The only role that has seen a benefit is support because they're less reliant on healbotting a tank and have more freedom to make plays. Everyone else suffers. It's a cashgrab. When OW2 released they took away the ability to earn skins through grinding the game and put all the nice skins behind a $25+ paywall. At least the game was different enough to distract people from it and PvE was well on the way. But then PvE was cancelled and now we're only left with 5v5 as the only real differentiating factor between OW1 and OW2. Without it there will be nothing left to distract from the more predatory skin shop of OW2. The game cannot revert back to 6v6 because when they do even the casual players will see what has happened. How do I play Doom in Gold rank...no one knows how to work with Doom, no one trusts Doom, and even when I absolutely pop off, they still want me to switch or call "Tank diff"....I'm not saying I'm hot like that, but I know dang good and well it has not always been my fault and it's reached a point where I genuinely want to unistall altogether or where I only play casually once a week as opposed to everyday.....what should I do?
Zbras take on the tank problem is absolute W. The problem with tank is not the tank role itself. It's the sheer number of tank-fucking abilities in the game. They need to rework anti-heal and discord orb and a number of other problematic abilities and then the tank experience will be fine.

As such it will will never be even with dps and support popularity - it never has in OW1 even one single time if you ignore the brief period after a new tank launched, and the same is true in mmos and other class based shooters, even with fairly homogenised roles like The Finals - Heavy is least popular by far... 1/2
The downside for 5v5 is the inevitable powercreep that we are currently experiencing, stemming from the fact that tank is not fun to play in 5v5. With 1 extra tank, it wouldnt be this bad, and even cheaters would be less of a problem.

I feel Zbra’s pain here. I can be in the enemy back line, fighting and maintaining a 1v2 or even a 1v3 if I have my ult, expecting my team to win. Only for the rest of the team to turn around and finish me off. And then they proceed to blame me for losing the team fight..
Exactly, most players don't understand the game and have terrible positioning, a lot of them think it's bad to be in the enemy lines like that isn't the point of two of the three fighting styles (dive/brawl) most plats/diamonds i play with prioritize their own K/D over winning the team fight, they are so scared of dying they let the enemy team take as much space as possible and run away even when the fight is winnable, i don't understand man

“The casual player base” is a misconception. Even casual players want balance and a healthy competitive game, even if they don’t want to admit it. Getting better at a game will automatically make you even a little more competitive. You don’t have to be a sweat, but even casuals like a nice, hard fought match once in a while (especially if they’re traditionally FPS players)
The data supports that the queue times are just about the same, so they can't even use the queue time excuse. 5v5 is cooked, we tried it it's shit, bring back 6v6.

Every hero is easy to counter, but no one has as much uptime as doom again maybe besides mei. Everyone that can beat doom in a 1v1 can’t move and everyone that can move can’t beat doom 1 v 1. The Mei slow has been there since ow2's launch and was arguably more oppressive than it is now as it's been heavily nerfed.

If you're stuck in gold, its not your team. Just work on cooldown management, aim accuracy, and not feeding.
Practice until you're GM level so you can carry out of gold in 1v5 and get stuck in plat

@@raynelrueda6063mostly for just movement. Zbra does it a lot to get out of sight quick because if you can don’t have your block and getting shot at that’s the next best thing
@@raynelrueda6063When your slam is active, you get increased gravitational acceleration. So you won't go as higher/far as when you cancel your slam.

I feel Zbra’s pain here. I can be in the enemy back line, fighting and maintaining a 1v2 or even a 1v3 if I have my ult, expecting my team to win. Only for the rest of the team to turn around and finish me off. And then they proceed to blame me for losing the team fight..
Exactly, most players don't understand the game and have terrible positioning, a lot of them think it's bad to be in the enemy lines like that isn't the point of two of the three fighting styles (dive/brawl) most plats/diamonds i play with prioritize their own K/D over winning the team fight, they are so scared of dying they let the enemy team take as much space as possible and run away even when the fight is winnable, i don't understand man
@@azzy9293 I mean, can we blame them? They don’t get flamed at first for bad positioning or lack of space made, most people get flamed for being negative or low kills/heals. Most players are so focused on the scoreboard it prevents them from thinking about the actual objective.

So, by that logic, que times matter even less because casual players in quick play or even metal ranks (gold-plat) don't have long que times, they never have lol. “The casual player base” is a misconception. Even casual players want balance and a healthy competitive game, even if they don’t want to admit it. Getting better at a game will automatically make you even a little more competitive. You don’t have to be a sweat, but even casuals like a nice, hard fought match once in a while (especially if they’re traditionally FPS players)
The data supports that the queue times are just about the same, so they can't even use the queue time excuse. 5v5 is cooked, we tried it it's shit, bring back 6v6.

It’s weird to complain that tanks can’t do anything when your first play is one shotting a dps clean off the map and then flying back to your team. Usually with dps you get one or the other, but with doom you literally get it all. Why you complaining, your not an orisa or wonton main. You play one of the most powerful characters in the entire game

You can do ALOT on doom. Like two movement abilities, a slow, a one clip primary, aoe, environmental kill potential, damage reduction. Every hero is easy to counter, but no one has as much uptime as doom again maybe besides mei. Everyone that can beat doom in a 1v1 can’t move and everyone that can move can’t beat doom 1 v 1. Doom has the most powers besides mei and rock biter so doom is one of most powerful
