A friend of mine always recommended thrifting a month or two after your local university or college has had their Final exams especially in a place with foreign students. They can only take so much home with them and you'd be surprised how much designer clothing they toss
Yes! I went to the local university when they were throwing out their stuff and I was only expecting like one maybe two nice things but came home with 4 pairs of brand new prada heals, new dyson fan, TV, and an old laptop that my uncle used for parts. Love living in a college town sometimes
My college has free bins in the laundry rooms where people put stuff (mostly clothes) they want to get rid of. I’ve found a few things there, especially towards the end of the year.

I actually like having a friend that has a similar style (and size) as me because if I end up not liking something I’ll happily give it to them and sometimes my friend will do the same.
Even better: a thrift buddy with the same style as you but wears totally different sizes! That way you can both just grab stuff you like regardless of size and find out which one of you will fit into it later
Depends on the Goodwill location/area. Mine (SW Indiana) provides a lot of job training for low income people, they're even opening a center for adults to go back and get a high school diploma (NOT a GED). They're going to provide transportation and daycare for those adults too.

Who cares? They're just a business. Do you look up how much other business donate( like target or sephora)? No thrift stores are charities, they're either funding a mission (aka church stores, etc) or they're a normal company

I remember when thrifting used to be a cheap way to get clothes for low-income households. Now it's become more expensive and "trendy" which is one of the main reasons why it's more expensive

I work at a goodwill and make 15 dollars which is pretty nice where I live, so at least the raise in price is going to raise in wages I imagine. Also it's hard because I understand poor people need affordable clothes but the environment benefits from everyone wearing second hand clothes instead of brand new. I think the goodwill bins are a nice option for like really really poor people, you can get a ton of clothes for super cheap there.

As a person who has been thrifting sense childhood these r good tips. Also there’s a good chance that places like good will and others will have a TAG SALE! These sales give a % off depending on the day of the week and color of tag. Best days to go are the day before they restock. A lot of the time they want a lot of stuff out so they can make space for new stuff so it’s going to be marked down.
a store near me (it's an amazon return store I think) has everything the same price and the price changes every day, I think from $15 down to 25¢. and then they close for one day to restock
as another tip look for the word 'consignment' in the shop name, secondhand stores basically the equivalent of the botique. also best to look at smaller stores rather than bigger ones cause less poor quality stuff
@@n3w529 I’ve always looked in larger stores because a good chunk of the time the larger stores have a higher chance of a really good quality item. A smaller store near me that’s a second hand store, has really bad quality stuff. Like it’s just bad. I don’t shop there.
I'm late but !!! I feel you. I always get my clothes from thrift shops. Sadly, my goodwill got rid of the tag sales. I still have no fucking idea why, but whatever. I have two more thrift shops here so though so maybe they'll be better than goodwill :))
measure your body before going, and bring the measuring tape along, so you'll know for sure you'll fit the clothes. wear leggings and/or long sleeve tight-fit gym shirts so you can slide into the clothes without them touching your skin, especially those with sensitive skin. I don't, but I don't want them to touch my skin since I'll be thrifting for hours on end

My mom and I have been below the poverty line our whole lives, and she is really good at finding good stuff at the thrift store and reselling it for a profit. Biggest tip from her, do NOT skim thru the aisles! Not as a beginner, at least. You miss a lot of good stuff that way. I used to skim aisles, tell my mom there was nothing good in that aisle, and she’d look for herself and find AMAZING things. I always thought she was magic, but she just doesn’t skim. fr!! some things look hideous on a rack but amazing on the body. and i have sensory issues so the material is hugely important for me too. Most of my wardrobe is thrifted and most items were under £5 because i like browsing often and keeping an eye out for certain items. Like the other day i got the most flattering white button up shirt for £2 after searching for YEARS because i knew if i didn't love it, i wouldnt wear it. Now I'm hunting for a pair of cargos and I'm hopeful they'll be hitting the charity shops soon since they've begun disappearing from fast fashion stores.

@@di7209 There's no way to have a system like that in a thrift store because you'd have to make a special entry for every single thing that comes through. When I worked in the back of a Savers, I was hanging up about a thousand women's clothing items a day. That's a thousand new things, and only for adult women's clothes. When you factor in men's, children's, infants', scarves, hats, bags, shoes... toys, pots, pans, books, art, bedding....... It might work in a very heavily curated boutique, but your average thrift store, definitely not.

I bring a retractable tailor's measuring tape. That way you can quickly measure the garments to see if they're going to fit you. Size numbers mean so little, especially when doing true vintage shopping (old sizes are smaller) or in our international day and age (no way am I a Korean size medium!!!)
I miss the days when only poor people knew about thrift stores. I used to be able to go to my local goodwill or village thrift in hs and get gorgeous vintage pieces, designer and name brands for a couple dollars. Now they’re overpriced, filled with fast fashion that is falling apart and anything remotely good is snatched up by a 19yo trying to make a $800 thrift haul for tiktok.
There’s plenty of thrifted cloths to go around. stop gatekeeping thrift shops like other people can’t use them. You also have no idea about other peoples financial status, that 19yo might just be doing her best trying to find cloths on a budget

I like the bins, I wear mostly pinks and pastel colors and people usually don't grab them(people here wear more monotone boring outfits). So if you have a style that most people don't, you can probably find a lot in them, most of my cutest finds came from the bins.
When I was younger I was convinced that I would be a fashion designer. Because of this belief I would make shirts out of pillowcases and make my shirts into skirts. Watching Angela and her carefree and amazing fashion and just fun designs inspires me to create or adjust clothes to make them make me happy again I also learned how to find my best thrift finds through this video
I do the opposite. I go right before new stuff comes in, so it's cheaper and everyone else has already bought the stuff I don't like. I've found my style to be the clothes no one wants lol
A thrift buddy is a good idea, cause they can watch your stuff if you need to try things on & can't bring it into the change rooms. Plus it's fun to thrift with friends.
The rich neighborhoods part is true not only for clothes thrifting. You'll also be able to find really cool electronics and games in richer areas, especially at goodwills because often rich people don't have the time to try and sell their old electronics and such
As someone who loves digging in charity shops, don't be afraid to go beyond your usual sizes. Sometimes I am surprised that I can fit into smaller sizes that I wouldn't usually go for, and often I find clothing that is a few sizes larger but still looks so cute on! Oversized looks are in and you would be surprised how good the elastic is on skirts/ how much it would normally be expected to stretch for that size. Plus you can always add a belt, pin, or alter if you need!
And don't leave out church shops!! Especially the ones that do bag sales, sooo many good things. A lot of church people are rich old ladies, I've gotten some really nice stuff. And if you're lucky to have locally owned thift shops, support those!! I love mine go bits, I very rarely go to chains anymore

@@heyits_cat8966 not everywhere, where I live the bins are always out of shoes because of how expensive shoes are everywhere else and how much they are a necessity to the homeless and folks under the poverty line. Last time I went it was around school supply time and they had gotten a donation of shoes to fill multiple whole bins earlier that day but when we got there they ran completely out wich just goes to show how little there is.

I once found an adorable older style white Lily Pulitzer skirt it was the skirt of my dreams I looked at the tag it said size zero hit it looked like a size 6 tried it on and it fitted perfectly I bought it favorite skirt that I wear was 11 dollars so worth it
HI AS A GOODWILL EMPLOYEE I HAVE SOME STUFF TO SAY sorry but for real, if you're going to shop at goodwill, get there early, get there OFTEN. pricing can depend on quality, brand, and if the clothing is new, but also location. Goodwills in Oklahoma are more expensive than Goodwills in West Texas (where I live.) GO THROUGH EVERY SECTION. I mean it, cannot stress it enough. People love to misplace items, sometimes on purpose, so always be sure to check the very ends of racks or in different sections for good clothes. If you see something you want, GET IT. there is no guarantee it is going to be there when you come back for it, and whether you think so or not, people are going to have similar tastes to you (rip my lightning wielding angel t-shirt, we could've been so good together.) Also the hand sanitizer thing is applicable here too, NONE OF THESE CLOTHES ARE CLEAN.
My mum taught me how to estimate if a dress from a vintage store will fit me. Especially useful for ones that were handmade and don't have sizes in them. Hold the dress to your front, and wrap it around yourself. Ideally, it should cover your entire front without needing to be unzipped. If it's a little loose around any part, then it doesn't matter, but if it doesn't fit around your hips, then don't even bother, tho this is not an issue with most dresses. The hardest part to figure out is the boobs. Halter type dresses are the safest bet, followed by ones that are elastic at the back. Tho if you wanna play it super safe, get one that's elastic at the back and halter style. The hardest ones to guess are blouse type, or ones made to fit closely to the breast, as they can either look empty or overfilled depending on the cup size the dress is designed for compared to your own. I'd tend to steer away from those, but if you can open the dress, do so, but if the dress is designed in a way that you can reach the inside of where the breasts go withoit opening it then you dont need to, and hold it over your breast area to check the fit. It's a lot more hands on than just checking the size itself, but it means your a lot less likely to face dissapointemnet when you finally try it on and it doesn't fit. It's how I got my third favourite dress, a white, floral patterned summer dress with a halter design and absolutely massive pockets that i can not only fit an umbrella in, but my phone, my wallet and my keys, without it looking bulky and awkward. I got it in a vintage store for £20 as a treat. (my first is a really comfy casual little thing with pockets that I have no recollection of ever buying or being given it, i just noticed it in my wardrobe one day. My second is a nice long plain blue summer dress that can pass for formal but isn't overly so, and was the first dress i bought with my own money as a teenager. Previously, I'd only bought T-shirts and just wore my school trousers or a pair of second-hand jeans from my cousin with them. Im from the UK and school uniforms are compulsory in most schools.)
You just unlocked an old memory I had during middle school! Me and my bestie were having a day out, and we came across a consignment shop that was having a special sale. Different colored tags meant different percentages off the original price, and some pieces were as cheap as 50% off!! My friend bought herself a cute button up top and also pitched in on my shoes. I would love to thrift more but 1) I’m plus size a) even as a plus size person, I have a weird body type or something and get gender dysphoria about my curves in fem clothing (which is usually made to high lit them) 2) Men’s clothes sections I can never find anything good 3) I just generally don’t like shopping, it takes a lot of energy for me and I always walk away disappointed because I get nowhere
I was going to comment the same! I don’t even bother thrifting clothes anymore; if you’re over a size 8 - it’s just a uncomfortable experience. If “a size 8 then is a size 2 now!” - that’s great, but I’ve never see a vintage size 18 or 20. I’d rather thrift books and furniture then spend an afternoon being disappointed.
We have a thrift store that just opened in my town and they have dirt cheap prices but the curate stuff like a thrift but seek things to sell like a boutique. Truly the best shop.
yes look at everysingle thing on the rack, you will never know, but always have a plan, look a one catagory at a time and whatever catches your eye from other catagories
Another tip is to avoid Goodwills, Savers, etc. altogether and only shop at local thrift stores. The prices are significantly lower and the items are (usually) a better mix of brands and designers. The jewelry/sunglasses selection is significantly better than chain thrift stores.
Yeah avoid them because us poor folk need those stores. Ever since thrifting became really popular all the prices skyrocketed. I actually have a distain for thrifters because it feels like they don’t have a clue how much we really need those stores.
@@thatvalensteingirl true but that happens at all thrift/consignment stores so it’s universal problem and not just an issue with Goodwill or Savers. I’d argue the people who find great items and then hide them in random places so they can purchase them at a later date cause the same sort of problems. Ultimately (and this is my opinion) I don’t see it as a huge issue as a lot of stuff still ends up in landfills, but I do understand feeling frustrated that “the good stuff” gets picked through and set aside by people who don’t truly need it.
@@ThatOneFur That's actually one of the reasons why I prefer going to thrifty boutiques. I've been to value village with a friend and I didn't get anything because I felt really mean taking things away from people that need them. My family has a decent amount of money, so I prefer nicer thrift stores. I can afford the stuff there, and feel better about supporting sustainable fashion and don't feel like I'm taking from others. Plus, the things I've got there have quickly become my favorite items! I'm really sorry if this comes off as self centered, the point I'm trying to say is: if you can afford higher end things, don't take from people who need cheaper stuff because it's all they can afford.

My biggest tips are to go to a college town or retirement community, because in a college town people are always moving in/out and donate half their clothes (or are figuring out their style so they get rid of stuff) or in a retirement community.... its morbid but people die all the time and the family usually just donates everything they had. Also id reccommend going to a small town because there are probably less people with your style/who shop defensively like the city girls. The last tip i have is to go to small but non-chain thrift stores. Near me i have thrift stores that arent the super expensive vintage stores, but also arent places like goodwill/salvation army. Theres a consignment store near me that sells clothes between $1-8, so when youre googling to find thrift stores, absolutely use keywords like "consignment" too. Im personally from a very small/isolated but rich retirement community and i have found some really great stuff here. I also thrift whenever i go visit my friends in college. So ive found a good balance of fun/classy
If you’re bin diving, also wear a face mask. Not just because of Covid, but because sometimes the shit is dirty and dusty. Just … I also recommend glasses of some sort. But the bins are fire.

As someone who used to work at a thrift store, I can attest this is accurate, especially the sanitizer bit. While stuff will be checked to make sure it isn't horrifically stained or knock out smelly, NONE of it is put through a washer by the store.
I’ve only been to thrift stores a few times, and it was never for clothing. Honestly, I will not lie, thrift stores gross me out a little. Not a lot, and over time I can forget about it, but still. Considering the fact that it’s kinda hard to find specific clothing for my style (goblincore, grunge, and other similar ones) when it’s not online, the fact that it’s more environmentally friendly, and the fact that it’s cheaper, I want to start thrifting for most of my clothing. I usually get new clothes for back to school, and maybe during the winter season, and because of the lack of ability to find good clothes when it’s not online, I usually end up having six or seven outfits that I wear for about a year before I get more clothes. vintage size 8 is a modern size 2? That means a modern size 8 is a vintage 16 . Women sure are confusing with their sizing. Men’s clothes are definitely simpler in inches.

Thrift boutiques are even more expensive but they aren't wrong about regular thrift stores being too expensive either. Prices were already much higher due to inflation and the pandemic and stuff but then all these rich tiktokers started reselling brand name shit they found at goodwill outlet for 20× the price and now the goodwill managers and employees pricing the stuff take note of that so anything remotely usable that doesn't have tears and wears on it they overprice it for more money bought.
@@kay-collins I have a small budget and I usually just wear lularoe from ebay and goodwill lol pretty comfy if you find less ugly prints if you wash pre-owned shein type stuff by hand and hang it up to dry, it lasts a little longer but u have to have a system of good slips and petticoat type stuff because all that stuff is so transparent

another tip is a lot of thrift stores don't have dressing rooms so wear sleek clothes like spandex or workout tops like normal shirts or a sports bra you feel comfortable in so that you can try on clothes on top of your clothes

The annoying part for me isn't that it's become more accepted. In fact, I'm actually glad that kids now won't have to go through that. Now I'm pissed that people who can clearly afford nicer clothes insist on shopping at thrift stores, taking all the cute or nice clothes from people who actually need it, and jacking up the prices in return. I don’t get why people don’t buy fast fashion from 2nd hand stores and why 2nd hand stores don’t really wanna sell them. Like why does it have to be designer. Isn’t the point to NOT buy new and to not buy fast fashion because a lot is thrown away from stores like SHEIN and Zara etc? By not taking them and selling them and by refusing to buy them 2nd has you’re just making more waste. Don’t buy them new, but if it’s 2nd hand, it’s better then it being in a land field or burning. it's because buying those clothes are a waste of money. they fall apart easily and are cheaply made. when every dollar counts, you don't waste it on clothing you'll need to replace soon.
It does depend quite a bit on where you live but charity shops are pretty commonplace in UK high streets, although large-scale clearance "bin" places aren't really thing to my knowledge. Second hand boutiques are definitely a thing, but they are expensive and still rare, and frankly unless you're going because you want designer stuff it's not worth it. My fav charity shop is probably Traid, really nice sorting and selection and for very cheap.
Also if the changing rooms aren’t open by default and require an employee to open them, it’s much easier to just wear a bunch of layers that are pretty close-fitting in order to test whether or not stuff fits! So only use the changing rooms if you absolutely have to in that case, it’s far easier and wastes less time

The store does not go off of what they go off of pricing or damage.

I recommend charity thrift, like housingworks, in rich neighborhoods. I went to one, half of the clothes still had tags, and I found a $99 jumpsuit for $15 brand new.

A friend of mine always recommended thrifting a month or two after your local university or college has had their Final exams especially in a place with foreign students. They can only take so much home with them and you'd be surprised how much designer clothing they toss

Yes! I went to the local university when they were throwing out their stuff and I was only expecting like one maybe two nice things but came home with 4 pairs of brand new prada heals, new dyson fan, TV, and an old laptop that my uncle used for parts. Love living in a college town sometimes

Depends on the Goodwill location/area. Mine (SW Indiana) provides a lot of job training for low income people, they're even opening a center for adults to go back and get a high school diploma (NOT a GED). They're going to provide transportation and daycare for those adults too.

I work at a goodwill and make 15 dollars which is pretty nice where I live, so at least the raise in price is going to raise in wages I imagine. As a person who has been thrifting sense childhood these r good tips. Also there’s a good chance that places like good will and others will have a TAG SALE! These sales give a % off depending on the day of the week and color of tag. Best days to go are the day before they restock. A lot of the time they want a lot of stuff out so they can make space for new stuff so it’s going to be marked down.

as another tip look for the word 'consignment' in the shop name, secondhand stores basically the equivalent of the botique. also best to look at smaller stores rather than bigger ones cause less poor quality stuff

Biggest tip from her, do NOT skim thru the aisles! Not as a beginner, at least. You miss a lot of good stuff that way. fr!! some things look hideous on a rack but amazing on the body. and i have sensory issues so the material is hugely important for me too. Most of my wardrobe is thrifted and most items were under £5 because i like browsing often and keeping an eye out for certain items. Like the other day i got the most flattering white button up shirt for £2 after searching for YEARS because i knew if i didn't love it, i wouldnt wear it. Now I'm hunting for a pair of cargos and I'm hopeful they'll be hitting the charity shops soon since they've begun disappearing from fast fashion stores.

When I worked in the back of a Savers, I was hanging up about a thousand women's clothing items a day. That's a thousand new things, and only for adult women's clothes. When you factor in men's, children's, infants', scarves, hats, bags, shoes... toys, pots, pans, books, art, bedding.......
It might work in a very heavily curated boutique, but your average thrift store, definitely not.

I bring a retractable tailor's measuring tape. That way you can quickly measure the garments to see if they're going to fit you. Size numbers mean so little, especially when doing true vintage shopping (old sizes are smaller) or in our international day and age (no way am I a Korean size medium!!!)
I miss the days when only poor people knew about thrift stores. I used to be able to go to my local goodwill or village thrift in hs and get gorgeous vintage pieces, designer and name brands for a couple dollars. Now they’re overpriced, filled with fast fashion that is falling apart and anything remotely good is snatched up by a 19yo trying to make a $800 thrift haul for tiktok.
There’s plenty of thrifted cloths to go around. stop gatekeeping thrift shops like other people can’t use them.

A good rule is to learn to spot good fabrics at a glace, and with your hands. First look at the fabric, THEN the pattern and size.
I like the bins, I wear mostly pinks and pastel colors and people usually don't grab them(people here wear more monotone boring outfits). So if you have a style that most people don't, you can probably find a lot in them, most of my cutest finds came from the bins.

When I was younger I was convinced that I would be a fashion designer. Because of this belief I would make shirts out of pillowcases and make my shirts into skirts. Watching Angela and her carefree and amazing fashion and just fun designs inspires me to create or adjust clothes to make them make me happy again

The rich neighborhoods part is true not only for clothes thrifting. You'll also be able to find really cool electronics and games in richer areas, especially at goodwills because often rich people don't have the time to try and sell their old electronics and such

As someone who loves digging in charity shops, don't be afraid to go beyond your usual sizes. Sometimes I am surprised that I can fit into smaller sizes that I wouldn't usually go for, and often I find clothing that is a few sizes larger but still looks so cute on! Oversized looks are in and you would be surprised how good the elastic is on skirts/ how much it would normally be expected to stretch for that size. Plus you can always add a belt, pin, or alter if you need!

sorry but for real, if you're going to shop at goodwill, get there early, get there OFTEN. pricing can depend on quality, brand, and if the clothing is new, but also location. Goodwills in Oklahoma are more expensive than Goodwills in West Texas (where I live.)
GO THROUGH EVERY SECTION.
I mean it, cannot stress it enough. People love to misplace items, sometimes on purpose, so always be sure to check the very ends of racks or in different sections for good clothes.
If you see something you want, GET IT. there is no guarantee it is going to be there when you come back for it, and whether you think so or not, people are going to have similar tastes to you (rip my lightning wielding angel t-shirt, we could've been so good together.)
Also the hand sanitizer thing is applicable here too, NONE OF THESE CLOTHES ARE CLEAN.
My mum taught me how to estimate if a dress from a vintage store will fit me. Especially useful for ones that were handmade and don't have sizes in them. Hold the dress to your front, and wrap it around yourself. Ideally, it should cover your entire front without needing to be unzipped. If it's a little loose around any part, then it doesn't matter, but if it doesn't fit around your hips, then don't even bother, tho this is not an issue with most dresses. The hardest part to figure out is the boobs. Halter type dresses are the safest bet, followed by ones that are elastic at the back. Tho if you wanna play it super safe, get one that's elastic at the back and halter style. The hardest ones to guess are blouse type, or ones made to fit closely to the breast, as they can either look empty or overfilled depending on the cup size the dress is designed for compared to your own. I'd tend to steer away from those, but if you can open the dress, do so, but if the dress is designed in a way that you can reach the inside of where the breasts go withoit opening it then you dont need to, and hold it over your breast area to check the fit. It's a lot more hands on than just checking the size itself, but it means your a lot less likely to face dissapointemnet when you finally try it on and it doesn't fit.
It's how I got my third favourite dress, a white, floral patterned summer dress with a halter design and absolutely massive pockets that i can not only fit an umbrella in, but my phone, my wallet and my keys, without it looking bulky and awkward. I got it in a vintage store for £20 as a treat. (my first is a really comfy casual little thing with pockets that I have no recollection of ever buying or being given it, i just noticed it in my wardrobe one day. My second is a nice long plain blue summer dress that can pass for formal but isn't overly so, and was the first dress i bought with my own money as a teenager. Previously, I'd only bought T-shirts and just wore my school trousers or a pair of second-hand jeans from my cousin with them. Im from the UK and school uniforms are compulsory in most schools.)
You just unlocked an old memory I had during middle school! Me and my bestie were having a day out, and we came across a consignment shop that was having a special sale. Different colored tags meant different percentages off the original price, and some pieces were as cheap as 50% off!! My friend bought herself a cute button up top and also pitched in on my shoes. 1) I’m plus size
a) even as a plus size person, I have a weird body type or something and get gender dysphoria about my curves in fem clothing (which is usually made to high lit them)
2) Men’s clothes sections I can never find anything good
3) I just generally don’t like shopping, it takes a lot of energy for me and I always walk away disappointed because I get nowhere
I was going to comment the same! I don’t even bother thrifting clothes anymore; if you’re over a size 8 - it’s just a uncomfortable experience. If “a size 8 then is a size 2 now!” - that’s great, but I’ve never see a vintage size 18 or 20. I’d rather thrift books and furniture then spend an afternoon being disappointed.

yes look at everysingle thing on the rack, you will never know, but always have a plan, look a one catagory at a time and whatever catches your eye from other catagories
Another tip is to avoid Goodwills, Savers, etc. altogether and only shop at local thrift stores. The prices are significantly lower and the items are (usually) a better mix of brands and designers. The jewelry/sunglasses selection is significantly better than chain thrift stores.
Goodwill also sorts and swipes the "good stuff" to go into their own boutiques and online auctions
Yeah avoid them because us poor folk need those stores. Ever since thrifting became really popular all the prices skyrocketed. I actually have a distain for thrifters because it feels like they don’t have a clue how much we really need those stores.

I’d argue the people who find great items and then hide them in random places so they can purchase them at a later date cause the same sort of problems. Ultimately (and this is my opinion) I don’t see it as a huge issue as a lot of stuff still ends up in landfills, but I do understand feeling frustrated that “the good stuff” gets picked through and set aside by people who don’t truly need it.

I've been to value village with a friend and I didn't get anything because I felt really mean taking things away from people that need them. My family has a decent amount of money, so I prefer nicer thrift stores. I can afford the stuff there, and feel better about supporting sustainable fashion and don't feel like I'm taking from others. Plus, the things I've got there have quickly become my favorite items! My biggest tips are to go to a college town or retirement community, because in a college town people are always moving in/out and donate half their clothes (or are figuring out their style so they get rid of stuff) or in a retirement community.... its morbid but people die all the time and the family usually just donates everything they had. Also id reccommend going to a small town because there are probably less people with your style/who shop defensively like the city girls. The last tip i have is to go to small but non-chain thrift stores. Near me i have thrift stores that arent the super expensive vintage stores, but also arent places like goodwill/salvation army. Theres a consignment store near me that sells clothes between $1-8, so when youre googling to find thrift stores, absolutely use keywords like "consignment" too.

Ok but the fast fashion doesn’t matter and means nothing by the time it’s at goodwill. Buying and styling it will not contribute to that company’s wealth at all.
As someone who used to work at a thrift store, I can attest this is accurate, especially the sanitizer bit. While stuff will be checked to make sure it isn't horrifically stained or knock out smelly, NONE of it is put through a washer by the store.

I’ve only been to thrift stores a few times, and it was never for clothing. Honestly, I will not lie, thrift stores gross me out a little. Not a lot, and over time I can forget about it, but still. Considering the fact that it’s kinda hard to find specific clothing for my style (goblincore, grunge, and other similar ones) when it’s not online, the fact that it’s more environmentally friendly, and the fact that it’s cheaper, I want to start thrifting for most of my clothing. I usually get new clothes for back to school, and maybe during the winter season, and because of the lack of ability to find good clothes when it’s not online, I usually end up having six or seven outfits that I wear for about a year before I get more clothes. Thank you so much for this video! I’m getting so excited to try this out (I’m also very hopeful that I’ll find great clothes to wear since usually there’s a lot in thrift stores. Thrift boutiques are even more expensive but they aren't wrong about regular thrift stores being too expensive either. Prices were already much higher due to inflation and the pandemic and stuff but then all these rich tiktokers started reselling brand name shit they found at goodwill outlet for 20× the price and now the goodwill managers and employees pricing the stuff take note of that so anything remotely usable that doesn't have tears and wears on it they overprice it for more money bought.

if you wash pre-owned shein type stuff by hand and hang it up to dry, it lasts a little longer
but u have to have a system of good slips and petticoat type stuff because all that stuff is so transparent

It's not middle-upper class people thrifting that's the problem, it's reselling for a much higher price so that the corporate thrift shops that a lot of poor folks have as the only option **cough goodwill cough** start skyrocketing their prices for clothing because they know that some rich person will buy it and therefore they receive more money and the company gets more money, leaving lower class citizens torn or nasty clothing that's *sometimes* reasonably priced **cough definitely not goodwill they will try selling a poopy diaper for $10 and call it a baby doll accessory cough**

another tip is a lot of thrift stores don't have dressing rooms so wear sleek clothes like spandex or workout tops like normal shirts or a sports bra you feel comfortable in so that you can try on clothes on top of your clothes
if you can afford them withoit thrifting, please buy them normally. Ever since thrifting became trendy, us poor people have been struggling to find clothes, as not only are any nice clothes have been taken already but a lot of thrift stores have been highering their prices. We need thrift stores to be able to stay warm or sell items to buy food, please keep that in mind.

I live in this cute town square that has a bunch of cute little shops. Ice cream shops, clothing shops, decor shops, wedding dress shops, and more. But they have this adorable little shop called “the rainy day shop” and it’s full of used vintage items and clothing. I love going there

The annoying part for me isn't that it's become more accepted. In fact, I'm actually glad that kids now won't have to go through that. Now I'm pissed that people who can clearly afford nicer clothes insist on shopping at thrift stores, taking all the cute or nice clothes from people who actually need it, and jacking up the prices in return. The Bins is actually a great way to get stuff for upcycling clothing. Especially if you’re looking for knitted items to repurpose the yarn.
Fun fact most high end brands come from the same sweatshop as fast fashion brands or another one sweatshop made cheaply. If you like it buy it. If it fits your unique style go for it.

I don’t get why people don’t buy fast fashion from 2nd hand stores and why 2nd hand stores don’t really wanna sell them. Like why does it have to be designer. Isn’t the point to NOT buy new and to not buy fast fashion because a lot is thrown away from stores like SHEIN and Zara etc? By not taking them and selling them and by refusing to buy them 2nd has you’re just making more waste. Don’t buy them new, but if it’s 2nd hand, it’s better then it being in a land field or burning. Like I just don’t get the logic, it really goes again ha the whole point.
it's because buying those clothes are a waste of money. they fall apart easily and are cheaply made. when every dollar counts, you don't waste it on clothing you'll need to replace soon.

It does depend quite a bit on where you live but charity shops are pretty commonplace in UK high streets, although large-scale clearance "bin" places aren't really thing to my knowledge. Second hand boutiques are definitely a thing, but they are expensive and still rare, and frankly unless you're going because you want designer stuff it's not worth it. My fav charity shop is probably Traid, really nice sorting and selection and for very cheap.
Also if the changing rooms aren’t open by default and require an employee to open them, it’s much easier to just wear a bunch of layers that are pretty close-fitting in order to test whether or not stuff fits! So only use the changing rooms if you absolutely have to in that case, it’s far easier and wastes less time

I have a very interesting place to go for bin Thrifting. I have found projectors, iPhone cases, Nintendo switches, and even a PS4 once. It’s specifically all old Amazon returns that were brought back that are undamaged other than the boxes.❤
Edit: pricing varies on days. Wednesdays and Tuesdays. Everything is one dollar not mattering the weight and Friday’s everything is $10. The best day to go is on Mondays because everything is three dollars and that is the day that they restock. The store does not go off of what they go off of pricing or damage.

A good thrift buddy will keep you on track of you're store hopping to find a specific type of thing. And also remind you of your budget when you find a REALLY cute item that you don't technically need, and it's 3x what you were going to spend that day.

I recommend charity thrift, like housingworks, in rich neighborhoods. I went to one, half of the clothes still had tags, and I found a $99 jumpsuit for $15 brand new.
