Watching the game on sky Gary Neville kept saying, “Arsenal need to stop letting utd have the ball” and I kept getting wound up and angry, cause it was clear to me Onana was too good on the ball to press and utd were doing nothing with the ball in those areas anyway. Very pleased to hear this in-depth analysis confirming my gut observations. Can we get some actual football analysts on sky please? Great job lads
Gary knows Arsenal we’re doing the right thing. United are literally useless with the ball, he just wants Arsenal to press high and leave gaps in for United to exploit which is how he knows is the only way United win that game. And because he’s a united fan he’s gonna make it look like United know what they’re doing even though he knows they were passing cluelessly and ineffectively round the back waiting for a long ball to rashy
@@pratibhanaik3062People are overreacting. They were fine, nowhere near as bad as people say, but they always have to find some way to blame Maguire I guess. We conceded a corner to make it 2-1 to Arsenal, then a counter attack when the game was already lost. Maguire and Evans did fine, idk why people expect our 5th and 6th choice CB’s to be world class.
As the people here commenting. Goalkeeper's are supposed to stop goals. It should be obvious, but apparently it isn't. He got beaten at the near post for the second goal and was positioned horrendously for the first goal (Albeit probably wouldn't have saved if he was in the right position)
I agree that arsenal's press was not aggressive and quite strategic. They were not oblivious to the threat posed by utd. Multiple times especially during that 1st half, onana and martinez were trying to play it in the half space between white and saliba to feed to rashford, but Arsenal's press was so compact that it allowed their players to be positionally disciplined to recover the ball or utd overhit it.
@@Iron-BridgeGod that game at old Trafford was dumb. Martinelli scores early but it gets wrongfully disallowed so arsenal have to keep playing for a goal and allow man u easy counters. Game is completely different if the fair goal was allowed ffs. That united couldn't create anything when they held possession which then would have allowed arsenal to counter. Such a shame as an arsenal fan, that call genuinely scarred me for the remainder of the season
@@michaelboiteau9890 It was obviously A fault. But VAR was not allowed to call that kind of fault unless it was a red card challenge or offside. Should be a goal but an Illegal goal because on field ref didn't see it.
Again this united performance feels heavily overstated. As JJ mentioned, Arsenal’s first goal was a product of good quick linkup and Ødegaard’s box-crashing. But this box-crashing and good link up also produced two massive chances for Havertz and Saka both of which you would expect to have been converted. One of Arteta’s principles of play is to get Martinelli 1v1, and he did so on countless occasions. Wan Bissaka defended well 1v1 (if you consider conceding a million corners good defending) and the united defenders simply could not compete with the technical level Jesus showed when he came on. This game could have gone Arsenal’s way in many scenarios, a last minute winner is just one of them.
Spot on. There’s a weird onus to find greatness in every United performance, regardless of how poor they are. Fact is, they parked the bus like relegation fodder, put on more defenders late in the game to secure 1p. Got punished with another goal in the back the minute they tried to actual play any type of attacking football. They are just another Billionaire Burnley.
@@timjallow2644exactly, we had to deal with united playing a low block for 90+ minutes, and united couldn't even do it for 3 minutes, the moment they opened up, they conceded that 3rd goal
@@jacobalexander4167 yep, and if the game at Old Wafford is a carbon copy of this one with the entire game being played in and around one team’s box, but the teams switch roles, the analysis will be how extremely dominant United were and how poor Arsenal were not being able to cross the halfway line during any possession spell.
I do wish Arsenal had more of a killer instinct in transition, that’s something I admire about United’s side. Sometimes it feels like we’re too beholden to our buildup structure and lack the impetus to improvise
equally when it comes to united their strength in transition is also their weakness. they make so many turnovers and are very one dimensional in attack, because every ball is aimed at trying to find rashford in behind.
I too wish United had Arsenal's decision making when it came to the final third. Dangersnif playing transitional footballl is the forwards rush everything. Rashford scored (which is great) but there were instance where he should have passed or retained possesion, instead he just shot the ball away. Same with Hojlund
ofc mate our teams has players with "killer' instinct like Mason in the past and now Antony Santos both can beat defenders as well as their gfs Not to mention KingEric and Giggs
I feel like Arsenal are in this slightly awkward position where the opposition now recognises them as very good and so up their game against them, but they're not perceived as *so* good that the opposition just basically accepts there's a 90% chance of losing so don't even try anything risky on the counter attack - the 'invincibility' aura that City have. It might come but it'll take time for the new-look midfield to properly integrate first
This is the lens through which I watch every game now. Last year Arsenal were shock contenders and plenty of teams still underestimated them. This year, everyone knows they're going for it. How each teams perceives the other seems to influence the play so much.
Hahaha this is a brilliant description of how I feel week in week out pulling for Arsenal. I’m being smart this time and basically conceding literally no one has any chance unless ffp rules get enforced. No one is even close to man city and it’s supremely dull from a competitive perspective.
It's not that they're upping their game. People just figured out how to negate their play. It's the premier league in 2023, there isn't a team in the league taking a game for granted.
This is Arsenal for 10+ years. Respected enough that opponents take them very seriously, but nobody is intimidatedxso anyone feels they have a chance. Forest against Arsenal were disciplined and enterprising. . . against City a week later they were like a frequently-beaten dog. (Do not harm dogs, people).
Nobody is talking about how leaving Rashford to mop up while we are attacking corners has cost us so much this season.. I can count how many times he's been bullied off the ball in counter situations from our own corners, Awoniyi's being the most prominent and yes it also happened yesterday. Rashford is a decently tall boy, has a good jump and can score headers, he should be a target man in the box and not outside it let alone be asked to defend... We got a set piece specialist coach, he has to rearrange a lot of the plays especially defending set pieces.
@@stanleynwosu5830😂😂i think nothing works right away most of the time. It'll be good if your team keeps tinkering around with its tactics impatiently as it'll afford us your opponents to steal some points😂😂😂😂Utd should learn from Liverpool, Arsenal that one average season of transition isn't a bad thing as ling as it yields the long term results.
Incredible analysis, especially the corners. Can't imagine why we wouldn't cover Declan Rice. What did United think? He had so much time on the ball for the second goal.
@@olaleyeonikuyide7541And if Maguire would've just pressed towards the ball instead of standing still and protesting the foul. That for me was the worst part, he just stopped and didn't do anything.
@olaleyeonikuyide7541 LOL Gabriel didn't foul Evans, in fact it was Evans that brought him down. All Gabriel did was stand his ground and not allow Evans freedom to go for the ball.
The thing he brings up about corners is interesting because every United fan and fan channel including Mark Goldbridge was saying " there has to be a foul, no way we leave a man free". OH LOOK, he was free in every corner apparently. LOL
I am a United fan...and Gabriel should have fouled Evans properly..so he wouldn't have gotten partly in the way to deflect Rice's shot away from the keeper towards the near post.
@@Adam-xe5xm he didn’t but it’s fine believe whatever. After watching the replay even Mark said it wasn’t a foul. Also btw, First half Antony should have gotten a yellow for dissent for kicking the ball after whistle blew (that’s the new rule) but first time ever this season the rule was not followed.
@@gurtajchhabra cool. Saka should have had a red for going studs up into a player and that Hojlund judo throw was a penalty. Arsenal got every 50/50 decision, i dont think thats debatable. Crying over a yellow card to a winger is insane.
Arsenal's issue in attack this season has been Nketiah's lack of connecting play with the wingers. Its a massive difference from when Gab Jesus plays. The only time Eddie linked with Martinelli, end result is the first goal. This is the issue, he doesn't link and leaves the wingers isolated
If anything, Arsenal showed that having a playmaker in the back third is useless if teams aren't engaging you there, to generate space behind. Onana can play all the nicest short passes to his CBs he likes
Other times I saw the one touch football from Arsenal was when Rice played it advancing and carrying it, with the first spur of positive play from Kai he was in the box and got the penalty. I believe that it is a transition period where Arteta is waiting for the team to grow more familiar with the system and it clicks and then we’re off.
The level of Onana love from pundits and fans is amazing to watch. DGMW, he is clearly very very good, and an enormous step up, but if teams won't be baited into pressing his obvious talents are mitigated somewhat. This was a good example, clearly, but when the 1st choice centre backs are fit (exist?) will be a different story.
United fan here, and i need other United fans to understand we didn't play well. We had a handful of moments we wrre ableto exploit a bit of Arsenal's weakness but aside from bits of the second half and when Hoijlund came in, we were had no playing lines. Onana chucking long balls cause there were no midfield opportunities. Honestly a sad day out. Looking forward to Amrabat integrating and varane & Martinez being back together.
brilliant analysis as always from john...i think the lack of penetration through the center will be solved once jesus starts......it will make arsenal more dynamic..and also i know i am being harsh but i think it's high time arteta starts subbing saka instead of martinelli...he is missing sitters and making costly mistakes and martinelli is the one who is making the difference this season so i think arteta should reward martinelli...and give saka a kick up his backside...you wouldn't want saka to get delusions of entitlement and also trossard deserves to play a part in every league game....
It seems like people are mixing the feelings between a team doing great vs exploiting their rivals weakness and f them because they're our rivals. Man U made almost nothing positive for themselves, and Arsenal had two big misses and a ridiculous overturning of a penalt
Pretty spot on to be honest. It was so frustrating as an Arsenal fan watching us not press them in the moment but great discipline from the team to stick to instructions and then exactly as JJ said, taking far too many touches and having to go backwards. Feel like we only slightly deserved the win but couldn't have complained if we drew that game. Something I've noticed watching Arsenal is that when we need to score we do but if we don't need to score we're too happy just to go through the motions. Wish we would kill teams off like Liverpool have done
Really agree with you, to me feels like arsenal don’t usually continue to maintain aggression and intensity once one or two goals up, can sometimes cost them like at anfield or West Ham last season, and saw it again against Fulham last week after taking the lead
@@arlochallis7656I think that's because we are still in a learning phase, and teams would defend narrowly against us hoping we misplace a pass that they can take advantage of, but as soon as we gel, we'd be scoring freely
That’ll come with experience, the comebacks that Liverpool and west ham done last season is a natural progression of that. Expect to see more 4-0,5-0 wins of Arsenal this season if that’s the case because Arteta will surely be adamant to kill off teams
We learn that United's bench is lacking any credible talent. The fact that Maguire and Evans have to come in really says a lot about how United spend their money
Now with Zinchenko back, Martinelli is looking good and I think Zinny is the perfect player to settle Havertz and help him get his rhythm and sharpness. With Jesus back too, I think we will more free flowing, unpredictable, attacking play coz Jesus is really good at overloading and building play all by himself from either side which will create more space in the middle and the half spaces which Odegaard and hopefully Havertz can exploit.
Ramsdale said in an interview that the Left sided unit had only practised 5 times together. I'm optimistic there's greater things to come, especially from Havertz. Great to see Jesus back, I love eddie but Jesus links both sides of the team together and is the best presser
Jonathan "The Goblin King" "Dog" Mackenzie is my favourite serious football analyst (together with JJ Bull "The Bullard" my favourite, not so serious, football analyst)
The idea that Arsenal can't play through the middle and have to go out wide is hardly new. The difference in this game was that they played more down the left, whereas last year it was down the right with Saka.
Last year arsenal generated more chances from the centre of the pitch than any other team and entered zone 14, the square in outside the box more than any other team.
We play more down the middle when we have Jesus leading the line. No offense to Eddie, he has been brilliant this season and deserves to start but Jesus helps Odegaard in building through the middle by holding up play, winning duels and dribbling efficiently through the middle.
2:01 is spot on. Ten Hag did the same thing in pre-season with Mainoo dropping between the 2 CBs & disrupting Arsenal's pressing, leaving both our fullbacks SUPER exposed. It was literally ALL they were doing, but was so crazy effective it was infuriating to see. Thank heavens Ten Hag showed his cards early cuz Arteta was prepared for this and the pressing anticipated this.
Ten Hag wanting to play "transitional football" is stupid. The top teams (e.g. City) are incredibly dangerous in transition, but are also able to play good football and generate chances like that. Just being a counter attacking team is not a route to sustainable success at the top level.
What this shows is that as talented as United are, he doesn't have the quality he needs to execute different styles of play. United cannot play good football vs high level teams which is the ultimate test. I agree about the sustainability in club football i.e it is not feasible.
He's not "just being a counter attacking team", you obviously don't watch them play. Playing pragmatically away against top teams is completely normal.
Probably the most important statement from this whole video is "Let Man Utd have the ball in the back and they won't be that dangerous"... It's only 4 games in and every team already knows the best way to beat Man Utd. Give Onana or the CBs the ball and stand off a bit and they wont know what to do- Prob end up kicking a bad long ball to Rashford after 50 passes around the back. (All that hype about getting a ball playing GK and scapegoating de gea gone to waste). If they aren't pressing or winning the ball from turnovers then they look lost. - Courtesy of Ten hag's focus on trying to become "the best transition team" Only time will tell if adding Hojlund and Amrabat will change this - Which is quite interesting position to have your season depending on two "unproven" talents
we play against low blocks every game compared to last season where that wasn’t the case till towards the second half of the season. And due to teams sitting back and not attacking us there aren’t too many opportunities to break the down as they’re already back by the time we attack
That's why last year was the best chance for Arsenal to win the league, now they're a big scalp for opponents so teams will fight for their lives every game
I think we're already better this season than last season against low blocks despite the fact we still haven't clicked, last season, we struggled to even create meaningful chance against low blocks, but this season we're creating chances for fun, even when the team hasn't clicked so, if we're scoring those chances, we'd be better
@@jacobalexander4167 And who is scoring these chances? If you don't have a goalscorer like Haaland, Salah, Kane or Mbappe (or even Bellingham!), you aren't competing against the top teams in Europe.
As a United fan, in the end Arsenal just had more quality on the pitch and deserved that win. We could brag about decisions but what really matters was that one team had Evans and Maguire and another Saliba and Gabriel. Cannot wait for Glazers to be out, because with Qatar we could have easily signed Kim as well this summer, and sell people like Harry.
I feel like whilst Arsenal did ultimately deserve to win, United did very well for most of the match and probably could’ve deserved a draw until injuries forced us to bring on Maguire and Evans. Yes the score looks worse for United, but we also got a bit unlucky with the Garnacho offside and aside of the Saka miss we didn’t concede any real high probability chances either. The Rice shot was a bit lucky and it did come after we had to take off our THIRD best centre back, and the third goal happened when United were already forced forward to go for a desperation equaliser. The team clearly has potential, but lack of quality depth and fit starters is the major issue that prevents us from actually playing properly and consistently for 90 minutes.
The only decisions worth discussing were the penalty shouts. I kind of think both could be given watching them back. Really surprised no one has brought up the Lindelof challenge on Nketiah as well. It should have been a red and if Nketiah made more of it, it would have been.
@@VenatusUprisingThey would just lose a whole lot of money because if they dont sell, they would have to invest and they are known to only use the money generated by the club. Therefore Manchester United wouldnt be able to keep up with Newcastle or City, because City and Newcastle actually invest in their training facilites, coaching staff, recruitement staff, stadium etc. United doesnt do that. If they dont sell, they would actually prove their stupidity.
My dad and I been saying Marinelli takes too many touches for a while now, Martinelli is more effective running into spaces behind these low blocks need more of like a Trossard or ESR in my opinion. Maybe even Nelson shame he never gets enough time
I would love to see Trossard start some Prem games but I have a feeling he's being saved mostly for Europe. ESR I really like but I prefer him to come on off the bench as an impact player like Fabio Vieira. I think maybe start Trossard over Havertz in left 8 for now. I'm not on the Havertz hate train but I think he had a rather poor game yesterday and probably shouldn't start the next game as a result.
@@dennisgichohi5392 I'm not saying that he's not a good player don't get me wrong, but when/if he learns when to keep the ball and when to move it on quick he'll be amazing. Because he's going against the best 1 v 1 RB prolly in the world, kudos to him for being persistent but after dragging the RB wide maybe look for someone making the run in to space or someone who can play that pass instead of attempting to take him on again and again.
We don't have the fastest players in transition, just Martinelli and we've mainly been trying to dominate possession and terroritory so don't get as many of those types of chances. Then there's the fact that we've faced the most amount of low blocks since last season and I feel like teams are working doubly hard to either double/triple team our wingers and deny space in the half spaces on the edge of the box, which makes us look more slow and ponderous.
When you play against a low block you can't play fast attacking football, because there won't be much space to play with. I don't know why people haven't figured that out.
I know for a fact that ten Haag is gutted and angry at the club for losing Kim Min-Jae to Bayern. Now ever so clearer that their defenders are in shattered pieces and that they know Maguire isn't the answer. I also know that their forwards are becoming Sunday league level. I just am so sure on this Kim Min-Jae slap-to-the-face going to hurt a lot this season. Not to mention Mount gone injured and won't contribute for a while.
As a United fan, Im glad that our defense of Maguire and Evans, aka Leicester 2018, is as sturdy as JJ's favorite popaddoms. Also, rumors going around that Glazers are not gonna sell the club. I love the Glazers.
Hey @tifo can you please a video explaining “the tactical inclusion of Kai havertz”. I feel like the fanbase and prem watchers overall would like to see the breakdown
Gets on the ball a lot in dangerous positions. Hasn't done much yet but it's been 4 games. Jesus likes coming short and the defenders can just follow him and stop him. Havertz swaps and pins them back creating more space. That's the plan anyway.
@@silverheart7964 oh word ? Gonna check for it. Because I can understand how great his profile is, but at what point does his actual effectiveness vs opportunity cost start to weigh in.
Brilliant analysis as always, gents. Onana is such a gamechanger. If De Gea is back there the Arsenal press would have been WAY more aggressive. I know you focus on the tactics more than the personnel but it should be noted that Arsenal played an almost full-strength side (just missing Timber, really, and Ben White was 1st choice all of last season) meanwhile United were missing Shaw, Mount, Varane and Hojlund didn't start. And STILL they almost won 1-2 at the Emirates with Maguire & Evans (!) finishing the game. Heck of an effort.
Dalot is better than Shaw, Mount and Hojlund not that good they’re still new. Man United play with his best squad while Arsenal’s Jesus was on the bench and Havertz is still clueless on the pitch. Arsenal is just too good for United
Great analysis. Instead of just mocking Maguire and Evans, it is now understood that United conceded rice and jesus goal because of tactical and structural flaws.
Interesting game for the neutral that... could have gone either way. Rashford and Garnacho (who was a gnat's whisker offside) both put it in the net from quick transitions; not really United beating the Arsenal press per se. Arsenal's equaliser was arguably because some United players switched off just after scoring themselves... Erikesen and Fernandes were all over the place as Odegaard (very sweetly) smashed it in. Better team won on the day, but it was close.
Fact is fact united spent millions on players who cannot create since Moyes time we never bought players who create in the opposition box. All we rely on is transition and opposition error. You can't win the league with that.
As a Manchester United fan for the 23 years and one who watched the match, I learnt that Manchester United is no longer a big club. We are average. Let us admit it, acknowledge this and stay humble as we work our way back.
I pity ETH, seems MU fans forget that MU is the first real big club he ever manage. No disrespect to Ajax but EPL, SAF, history and etc pressure is massive. He have to go against klopp, pep, and the rest who has vastly more experience in the big stage. He needs time and throw away his ego, 1 successful season doesn’t mean he already made it. But on a side note macguire and evans…..MU is so lucky to have GOATs
True.. he will improve the team by holding up the ball, pressing with energy and being a genuine threat to occupy opposition centre backs. The whole team will benefit. Given time the number of goals should increase in general.. which of course is the whole point.
One thing missed here is having a focal point which helps building from the back. When Martial was struggling with the hold up play up top, united build from the back seem to yield no result compared to when Hoijlund came on. This was evident in Garnacho’ goal.
Great analysis! Don't quite agree on Onana's kicking when you look at how many of his long kicks were successful. I could kick it 8 yards to Lindelof too.
Analysis missed the duration when Houjlund came in. The attacking style changed. Bruno Moved up. Started getting on knock down by Houjlund and Rashford started getting more on the ball.
Saka had a number of good corners while Martinelli should not have had so many bad corners. When you consider the big misses, the number of uncharacteristic bad crosses, the repealed penalty, etc, if individual Arsenal players had been as consistent as they usually are, it could have been a very different game.
I hate how yall always find away to slate martinelli no matter how he playsb......saka on the other hand is a Saint, tbh nelli had a better game and was the biggest reason we won the corners .... his wing was more dangerous
Jesus being healthy and back in the starting 11 will be such a boost to our fluidity and build up. he loves the physical battles and dragging center halves out of position to allow the build up space to work in the zone 14. He and Zinchenko were healthy during our dominant run pre WC last year. we get a run with them healthy and starting and this team will look MUCH more fluid thru the middle, especially since no one plays against low blocks more than us, to even City. Let us gel a bit, then you'll see if they can be flexible and creative enough to overcome everyone forcing us wide. Let Saka and Martinelli have 1v1's again on the outside and they won't be putting a foot on the ball or slowing things up as they do facing double or triple teams shifting to them currently.
A big part of Arsenals tactical thinking in forcing Man Utd deep and wide is because Dalot (Was playing on the wrong side so would have to keep coming inside) and Wan Baska is never going to hurt you, so there was no real threat on the outside from Utd.
What we actually learned: the mighty ten Haag came to park the bus. The entire game was played in and around United’s box. Deplorable for a big team, most would say, but it’s United so it’s tactical brilliance being a Billionaire Burnley. At 2-1 they have to move upfield to try to play football and immediately get another goal in the back. Loses 3-1 with a parked bus but somehow “United were better.” A narrative you won’t see for any other “big” team this season deploying the same tactics.
Amazing analysis. I think United’s setup at corners was too basic. Too easy to counter against. I imagine they’re happy to see lofted corners come in because headers are really difficult to score and have a low Xg. They ran the risk all game that the Rice goal would happen. I’m glad our analysts were able to exploit that further by telling Tomi and big Gabi to force defenders deeper into their area and give Rice even more time and space to receive the deliveries.
I really cant believe how delusional some United fans are. United has been falling apart, its rotten to the core. The type of characters you have in your team are toxic and snakes. The club has no identity. Best of luck getting into the top 4 because you are going to need it.
Since I discovered this channel,i have each and every video. I just can get enough of it am from Kenya please do a tactical analysis of why Chelsea my favorite football club and why is it not winning any game
Alright im going to tell you how it looks to me, Each game either the LHS or the RHS creates, depends on who is having a good game, martinelli or saka, this game it was martinelli, odegaard goal came as a result of that. i think this is arsenals main approach
people praising onana as if uniteds entire game plan was give it to him and hoof it up. theres a reason he had so many touches and passes but almost non of them were meaningful.
Playing Arsenal in pre season had its effects yesterday and Arsenal learned well from it and prepared to it.same happened with Palace and Villa after playing with them in pre season
I think the biggest thing slowing arsenals attacking play down is Nketiah. No disrespect to him, it’s just his skill set is not in facilitating quick movement of the ball in central areas. Several times Arsenal were on the break, Nketiah dropped deep to receive, tried to play a fast ball out to say Havertz or Martinelli, and the pass would be intercepted. They had the same issue last season when Jesus was injured after the World Cup - winning games through individual moments, rather than the system working. The system works when players like Jesus facilitate the play in central areas and drag defenders around, which isn’t Nketiahs natural instinct.
11:00 "knowing they aren't that good at building through the middle, forcing them wide" makes zero sense. If they're not good, you give them that, rather than play to a strength.....
Great analysis of Arsenal's more conservative press! You are also correct that Arsenal struggled to create chances when United got back into their block. However, they did create the very clear cut chance for Saka that he really should have taken (around the 80th minute). I feel like everything else was more or less a wash in chance creation (especially if you leave out the goal Jesus scored after the game state had changed). I was very disappointed that Saka wasn't able to put away the pass from White as that would also have made the offsides less relevant.
IMO, both managers play to not lose the game. full transparency, i'm a united fan. in EtH's case, it was quite obvious in the first half we DO NOT want the ball, we are either passing between the backline with onana getting many touches or just pumping some random ball up without challenging for the 2nd ball. we are trying to absorb arsenal's attack (which i feel we did quite well), hoping for a loose pass and capitalize on the mistake (which happened for the 1st goal). while arsenal seem to be attacking more, they are not pushing players up aggressively, their only outlets were martinelli down the by line and getting corners, which united dealt with relatively well. I felt the plan was to nick the first goal, forcing arsenal to commit more forward and we can play a more expansive football. the plan worked for a full minute. 2nd half was more open but i felt a draw would have been a fair result for either side. both teams would be lucky to win the match, again IMO, as unbaised as i can be.
It neatly illustrated why he's on the pitch. Unfortunately, the very next play he dropped too deep on defense, lost his mark (Ødegaard) at the top of the 18, and the ball was in his net
The problem with Arsenal’s attack through the middle is Nketiah, he doesn’t drop deep to pull defenders out so that Havertz can make runs, whereas when Jesus plays hes constantly dropping deeper and wider leaving defenders confused and leaving holes, the one time we saw Eddie drop deep we won a penalty with a run from Havertz, Eddie needs to work on this part of his game but when Jesus comes back in we’ll be a lot better at going through the middle
A 3-5-2 formation would suit Manchester United the most imo. Two quick forwards in Martial/Rashford or Garnacho/Sancho, a midfield comprised of Casemiro who just defends in the middle to conserve energy, Bruno stays behind forwards to unlock opposition defenders, Amrabat chasing the ball, Reguilon/Bissaka overloading/overlapping frequently...and occasionally Onana making a long pass to catch teams out who press.
Martial is done, couldn't keep possession, isn't quick enough, walks around the pitch. Rashford isn't a striker, he needs the space on the wing. Garnacho is not good enough to play as a starter. AWB isn't good enough offensively. I hope Hojlund helps in some areas. He looked decent against Arsenal.
United has pace upfront, and if Onana had Allison or Ederson long pass prowess, Arsenal would be punished harder before Arteta made that "tone down the press" adjustment. He has the ball on his feet the longest, even longer than both CBs.
From the video/analysis shared above. Arsenal bench looks sharp in the midfield when Havertz is subbed. We need Arteta to wake up from the slumber to avoid playing Havertz in our games🤭
Ten hag clearly reaching boiling point from the post march interview. Many injuries and now will probably lose Antony (maybe sancho as well) to an off field situation.

As the people here commenting. Goalkeeper's are supposed to stop goals. It should be obvious, but apparently it isn't. He got beaten at the near post for the second goal and was positioned horrendously for the first goal (Albeit probably wouldn't have saved if he was in the right position)
Yes, but United need a shot stopper because they are not a possession based side, they lack the quality.
Yeah. They learned from last season's first game. Played well in progressing the ball but got murdered by United's exploiting the spaces behind.
@@Iron-BridgeGod that game at old Trafford was dumb.
Martinelli scores early but it gets wrongfully disallowed so arsenal have to keep playing for a goal and allow man u easy counters. Game is completely different if the fair goal was allowed ffs.

Arsenal analysing the corners is what got them the win. No wonder they celebrate like that, so much teamwork goes into getting that ball in!
I am curios if Liverpool will go back there quicker, keeping in mind they have been there just two years ago
I think the idea is that he is also very fast, so he can help out defensively if we get countered.

Also, I really like the format. The back and forth between you is gold. Networks would do well to pick he two of you up. Analytical masterclass
Also it’s _who_ Onana is getting to pass to. It’s not exactly John Stones or Dias or Ake is it
Other times I saw the one touch football from Arsenal was when Rice played it advancing and carrying it, with the first spur of positive play from Kai he was in the box and got the penalty.
Very interesting breakdown. Look forward to Rice spinning in behind and opening up the centre of the pitch.

Feel like we only slightly deserved the win but couldn't have complained if we drew that game.
Something I've noticed watching Arsenal is that when we need to score we do but if we don't need to score we're too happy just to go through the motions. Wish we would kill teams off like Liverpool have done

Sorry but didn't United DOMINATE the PL and CL for decades with exactly this method?
What this shows is that as talented as United are, he doesn't have the quality he needs to execute different styles of play. United cannot play good football vs high level teams which is the ultimate test. I agree about the sustainability in club football i.e it is not feasible.
It didn't work for Conte and Tottenham too well last year
It’s like you don’t even watch the games. We’re not sitting back at all, but you’d hardly know that if you don’t bother watching the games

Good comment, feeling good about agreeing. Good.

- Courtesy of Ten hag's focus on trying to become "the best transition team"
Only time will tell if adding Hojlund and Amrabat will change this - Which is quite interesting position to have your season depending on two "unproven" talents
we play against low blocks every game compared to last season where that wasn’t the case till towards the second half of the season.

Cannot wait for Glazers to be out, because with Qatar we could have easily signed Kim as well this summer, and sell people like Harry.
The glazers decided not to sell the club sadly
Would like to know the money spent on each team's starting XI?
It might surprise you 😮
The only decisions worth discussing were the penalty shouts. I kind of think both could be given watching them back. Really surprised no one has brought up the Lindelof challenge on Nketiah as well. It should have been a red and if Nketiah made more of it, it would have been.

Very good pick up on the corner strategy changing
We don't have the fastest players in transition, just Martinelli and we've mainly been trying to dominate possession and terroritory so don't get as many of those types of chances.
Then there's the fact that we've faced the most amount of low blocks since last season and I feel like teams are working doubly hard to either double/triple team our wingers and deny space in the half spaces on the edge of the box, which makes us look more slow and ponderous.
When you play against a low block you can't play fast attacking football, because there won't be much space to play with. I don't know why people haven't figured that out.

Mocking? That's glaring factual fact that you can see. The big huge error in ten hag decision making.

Very interesting and educational gotta say Jon Mackenzie knows ball (apart from not seeing Arteta was always gonna be an elite coach of course)
Would have loved to hear your thoughts on Hojlund though, after his introduction united played long a lot more and with some promise.
True.. he will improve the team by holding up the ball, pressing with energy and being a genuine threat to occupy opposition centre backs.
I’m so glad the corners element was picked up on, I was saying it during the game, surprised me when it started to be discussed!

It annoyed me that he didn't hand over the duties to Fabio when he came on. I thought that was a no brainer.
Could John just up and go work for a top club as an analyst? So damn smart.

Playing Arsenal in pre season had its effects yesterday and Arsenal learned well from it and prepared to it.same happened with Palace and Villa after playing with them in pre season
Man U played very different with Onana. But Arsenal were ready for him..
@virupakshawalla5734 not true, arsenal was terrible at pressuring onana.
@@Diac13 almost as if that wasn't their plan
@seadkolasinac7220 they tried but failed. You didn't see that? Also coulant get though the middel. Both teams played well with different strengths.
@@Diac13 they didn't try they closed off his passing angles making him pump it long and they were waiting for that. Ten got schooled tactically.
Wow, love the content bro bros 💪🏽💪🏽
Wow, what an analysis, especially on Declan Rice on corners...
Great job team! 👍👍👍
brilliant analysis!!
shame JJ didnt talk about gabriel looking as if he was shooting laser beams out of his eyes when he played the offside trap haha
This is my favourite football channel 👌👌👌
Erikson’s pass was perfect.
It neatly illustrated why he's on the pitch. Unfortunately, the very next play he dropped too deep on defense, lost his mark (Ødegaard) at the top of the 18, and the ball was in his net
As was Vieira's simple pass to Jesus.
The problem with Arsenal’s attack through the middle is Nketiah, he doesn’t drop deep to pull defenders out so that Havertz can make runs, whereas when Jesus plays hes constantly dropping deeper and wider leaving defenders confused and leaving holes, the one time we saw Eddie drop deep we won a penalty with a run from Havertz, Eddie needs to work on this part of his game but when Jesus comes back in we’ll be a lot better at going through the middle
when every team wants to play wide as possible, Liverpool wants to play narrow as possible, like RB liepzig
NEED that Ange shirt!
United has pace upfront, and if Onana had Allison or Ederson long pass prowess, Arsenal would be punished harder before Arteta made that "tone down the press" adjustment. He has the ball on his feet the longest, even longer than both CBs.
Where did Jon McKenzie get that shirt
Enjoyed the video.
Great analysis on corner
Great vid as always!
Thanks guys!
I love this channel so much
Having a centre back pairing of Maguire/Evans as a top team against another top team is crazy
it’s unlucky that two of our cbs got injured during the match
Fantastic analysis
Bravo. Splendid insights
2:04 like what Amrabat did in Fiorentina.
The Tifo silence on Ibrahim Sangaré is deafening
They only care when it's a big club involved
Love these videos...but really missing the podcast guys.
Great stuff
