I went to Brazil few yrs before this. It was poor and that was NO delusion. My stay was planned for three weeks. I turned around within 48 hrs and returned to the states. Their gov was ashamed of the exposure MJ would show. I know if tourists really knew how natives really lived, the gov would walk with their heads down.

Europe are many different countries. The deliberate disrespect with "Jacko" was limited to the UK. And I'm not even sure, if everyone in the UK really knew back then (or knows today) that this word has a racist background. Outside of the UK (in non-english speaking countries) "Jacko" was understood simply as some shortform nickname. Even fans used it, including myself. It's only in recent years, that it really became known as a racist term, at least within the MJ fanbase.
