  • The 20 year-long project to secure HMS Victory in her dock at Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard has now been completed.
The installation of the new high-tech props has allowed The National Museum of the Royal Navy to install a walkway underneath the ship giving visitors a more intimate experience of this iconic ship.

"England expects that every man will do his duty." And so it was. Well done from across the pond here in the States!

I was lucky enough to have visited Victory as a lad in the '70s when the masts and rigging were still in place. Visited her again 3 years ago; very impressed, I was, with the conservation project under way. Hopefully I can pay her one more visit, when the project is finished and she's fully intact, before I shuffle off this mortal coil. By the way, I would urge anyone to spend a day or two touring the whole Portsmouth Historic Dockyard; it has to be one of the country's finest historical attractions (and incredibly good value). As well as Victory, see the amazing HMS Warrior, the first metal-hulled warship and, of course, the simply stunning Mary Rose exhibition.

This old lady is far to important and loved not to be looked after, no cost is to much to keep her in tip top condition.

Fantastic - not going to happen in my time but she'll look beautiful when all her rigging is back in place.

Impressive support system for an iconic ship, although the cherry on top will be when the full masts & rigging are reinstalled.

This sort of system should probably be borrowed for USS Texas since their long term plan is to move her into a dry dock display as well after proper repairs and restoration are done. I wonder how much the UK might want to help because although Texas is American, she is the only remaining example of a Dreadnought type battleship in the world.

Texas is an important ship that must be saved. Shame the UK didn't save more ships as museum pieces.

Brilliant video - tiny point in July 2020 why weren't they masked? A Boris dispensation?

Can the hull be slowly pushed back into shape such that the ship can sail again?
