I was a barista for 6 hours. Owner was mean as hell, i burned my hand, owner was super mean, I ended up just pouring cold brew for 6 hours. Owner kept yelling at me to go faster even though he had like 5 customers in his GIGANTIC coffeeshop diner that was perpetually empty. When my shift was over i said thank you and never came back. The business is permanently closed now. All of his businesses have been shut down.

Well, serves him right. Some people don't know that being a business owner is more than having business know-how. It is knowing how to treat customers respectfully and treating workers right.

Sounds like he reaped what he sowed.
The weird thing about people like that is, I think deep down, at a very subconscious level, they often know that they're failing. They know that their business isn't making money (and in foodservice this is a death knell) and it angers them. But they're too blind to see how they are responsible for their own problems.

Totally management failure ...sounds like a real jerk...good management knows it's high stress ....low pay and gets you on their side with no yelling or bad vibes....as long as you are doing your best...had one guy that would come to me as my shift began...just before lunch rush.
Ask if I had eaten ? Then how can you do a good job on an empty stomach ? and order me to order from the kitchen.. Once some guy ordered heaps of food to impress some girl....platters of gourmet stuff was coming to my station (dishwasher)...boss notices (he sees all) starts starts stuffing his face with untouched primo food , says these people are nuts ! Told me to dig in alongside with him. Best management of all time...I ALWAYS went the extra mile for him.Vietnamese guy

A guy got fired the day before his training shift. We worked 24 security for a very secure building. Rule was you were not allowed to be on the property unless you were working. The new guy showed up at the site the day before his training, he wanted to put his uniforms in a locker. A guard told him we didn't have lockers, he was told by the guard at the entrance that he would have to store and clean his own uniforms at home. He was also told that he wasn't allowed to be on site yet since he doesn't start until the next morning. Instead of turning around and leaving he decided to ignore the guard and just drive up to the main building. The guard calls up to the front desk saying that this guy just blew past him. I'm the supervisor so I go out and tell this guy that he needs to leave immediately or be trespassed and fired. He refused to leave, saying that he was going to call the office and have them inform me that he was going to be leaving his uniform on site and that was that. He spoke with the office for about 5 mins and then hangs up. He says the office said to let him leave his uniform there and that I was supposed to find a place to put it. He hands me his trashbag filled with his uniform and gets back in his car and leaves. The office calls me and says that they will be by to pick up the uniform and that the guy has an appointment at the main office to be fired the next morning.

I worked part-time at a bar and we always had staff coming and going. Once a new guy came in 3 hours later than he should have on his first day. He basically came in, started bossing everyone else around saying he used to be a manager at another bar and claimed he knew how everything worked.
When the bar owner came and gave him some stuff to do he just turned around and snapped "I'm working on it! Get off my case!" Then continued to drop a tray of wine glasses, smashing them all, put every glass he didn't break in the wrong places, ignore any advice we gave him and basically talked shit about the owner and his wife the whole time he was there. He got sent home within *half an hour* of him arriving - he stole two bottles of Old Mout before he left, too. Two hours later he came back in and made some bullshit excuse that he had been drinking before he got there. Yeah right, buddy.

As a bellman at an upscale hotel, we were all issued master keys, in the form of universal keycards. What they didn’t tell the new guy, was that each key swipe is digitally logged and has your employee number attached to it. He stole a bunch of pain meds out of an elderly couples luggage and and when confronted he literally said “prove it was me.” As if his card being used on the door after the guests left for the day wasn’t enough, there was surveillance footage of him sorting through the prescription bottles he swiped, in the employee parking lot followed by him crushing pills up and snorting them off of his phone.
This case was open and shut in a day. Not the fastest, but definitely the most cringe inducing. Security showed me and a few other “cool” bellman the footage... almost felt bad for the kid 😬...

Day 1: I started at postal facility and a wee runt of a woman walked up to me and said, "You're not going to like me" and walked away. Co-worker leaned over and said that's your supervisor. Every day she tried to make my job a living hell. I can't believe there is a guy out there who'd marry that big bowl of wrong. Long story short...I didn't bow my head down like the other employees.

I worked at a liquor store for a while and we almost reluctantly hired this older woman. My boss asked my initial opinion on her and I said, "Not good, boss". He asked me to train her (I trained everyone while I was working there) and to let him know what I thought after her first day. First day comes, she's 45 minutes late with no phone call or anything. She asks to take her break right away, like.... right after getting there 45 minutes late. Boss and I look at each other and kind of shake our heads. He let her take her break. Once she got back I was trying to teach her how to use the register and POS system and it was the most frustrating thing ever. She wouldn't shut up and refused to pay any kind of attention. She didn't want to stay at the register either and would talk to all the Karen types that came in like they were her best friends. It got to a point where I told her she needed to stay at the register and actually learn how to use it. I had been handling her customers because she kept walking away and I was pissed off at this point. I had actually walked her through the process several times and none of it registered. So I finally got her to stay at the register and during her first sale she didn't even know how to use the scanner or anything. This is simple stuff, folks. She kept whining (in front of customers) that the job was too hard and no one could possibly remember all the 4 things she needed to keep in mind. I had had enough and took my break, leaving someone I trusted to continue her training and warned them to keep her focused and at the register. Went up to the office and told my boss that this wasn't someone we wanted working here for a litany of reasons. He fired her on the spot then I left to take my break. This all happened in a little less than 2 hours. Feels good, man

First night there, they tell me to stock the adult bikes on the top racks (carrying adult bikes up a movable stair). I remind them I have a spinal injury, they say do it or I'm fired. I do it very slowly as to not injure myself further (I had the foresight to wear a back brace under my red polo shirt). Get a call at 2 pm that I'm being let go for not working fast enough.

Not sure if anyone will read this, but...
I got a job at Del Taco, and got hired due to my experience in fastfood working at Taco bell.
    Got fired after 2 days.
I did my job too well, I'd say.
The manager (sloppy chick) went to huge lengths to get rid of me.
Had an illegal immigrant kid, lie and say I bumped into him during work and didn't say "sorry".
I remembered the incident and he was the one who bumped into me and I still said sorry.
Poor kid was nice and I could tell he felt bad. Wasn't his fault and who know how hard if a life he had. So I let it go and just call the BBB and reported the manager for not getting me my check within 72 hours after being fired and abuse of management privileges.
Saw her 2 weeks later working McDonald's front counter as a grunt Haha felt so good. Gave her a wink after she gave me my food and never went back.

An hour into his morning shift at dunkin, he just wanted to stand on the other side of the counter in the lobby and watch as the manager and i by ourselves deal with a morning rush for that hour. When the next person came in to start their shift, dude was sent on his way, but refused to leave at first, and didnt comprehend that he was fired. Decided to show up the next day at 5:00 in the morning after being explocitely told that he was not working out and had to find another job, and try to walk behind the counter, and became violent when we wouldnt let him, so the cook, who just so happens to be in boxing, goes to town on the fool, sends him running then we call the cops and hes picked up while limping down the road. Not only was he slow and terrible at his job, but in his first 3 weeks he broke: lights, a bunch of bags of pet food, some shelves, and even bent a whole shelf with two pallets of dog food on it
Those things are heavy, it literally took hours to unload it, repair the shelf, and then load it again.

I'm not a manager and I also don't know for sure how long this guy lasted, but I didn't see him on any day except his first. I work a part time job as a crew member at McDonald's and there was a new hire who came on the last hour of my shift. I showed him how to cook on the grill and he wouldn't listen to anything I told him. He would slowly put the patties on the grill meaning the first ones he put on would be somewhat burnt on the bottom. I showed him to place them six at a time quickly, but he kept on doing it his way. I told the nearby managers what happened and I didn't ever see him after that. The best part was that he admitted to being fired from a different fast food restaurant for poor performance.

Worked at a plastics extrusion plant for 4 years. The summer I started we called 'Summer of the Temp', new hire turnover rate was insane. New temps would last 2-3 hours tops, the week with the highest temperatures we had 200 temp employees come and go like that across the 4 shifts (12 hr shifts, 2 week repeating schedule) most common excuse I got on nights was 'I have to use the restroom', 1 hour later foreman walks by 'wheres so-and-so?' I'd say 'had to use the bathroom, guess they meant the one at home' lol 🤣

I was head of a crash recovery team for AFM. We got a new guy on the team, kinda young and likes to mess around. Not a big deal, we all like to play around when we arnt working. So a bike goes down, I was in the trailer (I was training the new guy). We pull up to the crash and we all jump out but I get yanked back, fall, and smash my head on the trailer. New guy thought it would be funny to hook at rachet strap to my belt. After I got up and dusted myself off I told him to get into the truck and when we finish the recovery he is to gather any stuff that he left at out staging zone and he is gone. It was his first day, first recovery. Never saw him at a race again. I had a really bad headache after that and my manager forced me to go sit in the medical building for the day.

They hired him thinking that he was female (Unisex name) and then freaked out and fired him when they found out that he’s male. It wasn’t even something like childcare or something else stereotypically female, the company just wanted to even out their female to male worker ratio without actually caring about the skills they provided.

Went to a for-profit school to train for a spec. job back in the 80s. The economy was booming and we were in demand and the school made many placements with a local company that didn't pay much, but was a good resume entry for a first job. I was one of those placements. About one school cycle later, we had a couple of new recruits from my school, one a really brainy guy who went on to basically take over the dept. and the other a very well dressed, chubby girl who spent all her time on the phone calling friends. Phone calls weren't free in those days. After a week, she was confronted by her supervisor with a printout of all her calls and given a stern warning about personal calls on the company line (they were allowed, within reason). By the next day, the supervisor's boss had been made aware of the situation and his reaction was "how is she learning the job while spending all that time on the phone?" and she was fired that day. Later, the brainy guy told me "She was the ditz of the class. I couldn't believe they hired her." He had gathered in the months they were in school together that she was a girl from Brookline (i.e. rich parents), had graduated from a local women's college that was kind of a joke, had never had a job, and was being sent to this school by her parents, clearly thinking it might ultimately help them be rid of her. Guess not.

I got hired at a trucking company when I was younger. It was like a small version of UPS. The first night of work we had to unload the tractor-trailers with all the boxes.. these were dual pup trucks with lower sections to jam in more boxes. Getting the heavy TVs and other items out of these box Wells were sometimes tough. This was the job all new employees had to do. Until they moved you to loading or sorting. 90°, hot, soupy, dirty, back-breaking. I was young and strong so I didn't mind the work. So back to my first night the shift was 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 or 6:00 a.m.
They expected you to work as fast as possible to get all the boxes off as more trucks were coming in to unload the next batch. So I'm working with another kid, like 20 minutes into my first shift at my first night of this job. We're in the bottom of the truck on either side of the rollers, and a box must have broke open in the truck. And I see the other guy tearing it apart grabbing music cassettes not even CDs. They were in these big plastic security containers and he was tearing them off and stuffing the cassettes. I'm like Jesus Christ this kid is going to get me fired. I just ignore him and continue to load boxes on the conveyor. At one point he goes to the open end of the truck and throws all the plastic security containers right on top of the truck trying to get rid of evidence. Next thing I know the manager is standing at the end of the truck watching us. I even think I looked at him and gave him like rolling eyes and a shrug and a nod over to this dumbass. He watches for a little bit and eventually calls the kid out to the office. Fired on the spot get out! Cops were not called, my job was not affected I even talked to the manager later saying I didn't know what to do, I mean this is my first night. Manager was cool about it,.
Another time at the same place one guy had the sporting goods truck. He was stealing jerseys like expensive ones. Putting them on under his coat and walking out. They eventually caught on and one night he had like five jerseys on he looked like the Michelin Man. I had left but I heard they searched him and called him and called the cops LOL

Started a temp job one super stupidly rainy evening the same time another temp who would be my supervisor was supposed to start. I show up and the job goes well. She calls to say she is stuck in traffic. Realistic for the area, time of day, and weather. Calls three hours later reporting she is still stuck in traffic. Still not impossible. She decides to just turn around and go home instead. Dubious, but the place REALLY needed that supervisor. Next day she comes in hours late. Only people working were myself, the person from day shift filling in as supervisor until the temp gets trained enough to do it (this is, btw, a job that requires a masters degree), and the permanent employee doing the same job I am temping until they find someone full time (which ended up being me). Supervisor takes me, other temp, and someone from a different part of the building on a quick tour of our area. Even if rather detailed this would be less than 20 minutes. less than 5 if it is not detailed. Other temp at some point just sort of wanders away back to the front desk. Over the evening other temp falls out of her chair, has trouble typing including typing her own name, can't figure out how to scan an item, and a few other things. To top it off she leaves to go to the bathroom. Bathroom is at the end of the hall. You can literally see our door from the bathroom door. She is gone for nearly an hour. Supervisor has to actually go and look for her. Actually has to CHECK THE WHOLE BUILDING fearing she got lost. After about 5 minutes they return together with other temp saying she got lost. The building is odd and it isn't impossible if you don't bother to read any signs or anything, but she was on the same floor within sight. At the end of the shift other temp and I are allowed to leave without doing any closing stuff. Turns out this is so supervisor and permanent employee can write a report on things to the boss... one that doesn't make THEM look utterly insane. The woman spent maybe 3 hours at work not including when she got lost. She spent none of that doing actual work.

They had to weigh 60 to 70 lbs each, after walking up the stairs and lifting them over my head into a dumpster I was dead after 15 minutes my arms were dead my legs were wobbly I was breathing like a dying cow and I came to realization, there was no way I was going to keep this up for 8 hours. Next day, got written up because my drawer was $20 short. I freaked cause...not to brag, but I have a pretty perfect record on registers. I pride myself in that. Never short. So this freaked me out and I kept thinking I dropped it or something crazy. The only other person who ran it too was the general manager, NOT the one who wrote me up. GM never said a word about it. He DID ask him to give him a ride to a pawn shop though to pay for his daughters computer. Being new and guilable, I agreed. A week later after I started, he was fired for stealing from the company. Guess where that $20 went from my drawer?

My boss had to get on to her on several occasions(my boss wasnt really the confrontation type and only got on to people if they really messed up). So she worked there for about 2 months I guess, then she had mentioned something about putting a leave request to take some time off, but that was the last we heard of it. So this lady goes on leave for about 2 weeks(this is all unpaid btw) and the day before we were expecting her back, my boss goes to pull her info to put her back on our schedule and it turns out she has requested an extension on her leave for 6 more months. It somehow gets approved and 6 months later, my boss is going through the system again to put her back on the schedule and she quit

We were trying to hire someone for the job and found someone who seemed full of confidence, had the experience and ready to work with us. During her interview with us, she never showed a shred of anxiety or raised any concerns. On the first day of the job, she doesn't show up, ends up calling claiming to be suffering with anxiety. My boss decides to go to her house and with the girl's mother tries to convince her to come out. After waiting half an hour for the girl to get ready, she decides she cannot come to work that day. So my boss tells her she's lost the job and leaves.
