- In DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), parent-child functions are used to define hierarchical structures within a table. These functions allow you to create relationships between columns within the same table that represent a parent-child hierarchy.
There are two types of parent-child functions in DAX:
PARENT Function: This function returns the parent of a specified member in a parent-child hierarchy.
PATH Function: This function returns the path from the root of a specified member to the parent of the specified member in a parent-child hierarchy.
Note: To create a parent-child hierarchy in DAX, you need to have a table with at least two columns, one for the parent and one for the child. The child column should contain a reference to the parent column. You can create this reference using the RELATED function or by using a calculated column that defines the relationship.
