"No More" is even heavier, and "Don't Light My Fire" has a classic metal band sound. I like that with Japanese releases, since rock and metal are so popular there, they get to go full- on with that sound without holding back.

I'm the guy that likes to know what their songs are about. This song is about what they went through when Minx, their original group, failed and disbanded. Then they got 'one more chance' to go for their dream to become a top girl group with the formation of Dreamcatcher. Scattered through the lyrics you'll find the titles of several of their songs.
Kuboty, a Japanese guitarist that came out of the punk band Totalfat, worked on the lyrics and composition of the song along with Dreamcatcher's writer/composers LEEZ and Ollounder. Kuboty played the guitar and bass parts while Katsuma, from Japanese post-hardcore band Coldrain, played the drum parts. Dreamcatcher company's CEO spent several years in Japan in the early 2000's promoting Japanese bands into South Korea so he has a lot of contacts in the music scene there. The Covid epidemic put an end to their activities in Japan, but they still have quite a few fans there.

In this time frame their Chinese member, Han Dong, was stuck in China because of REALLY STRICT travel restrictions, so they were down a member. There were only six performers in this song and MV instead of seven.
JiU is the Group Leader, one of the Lead Vocalists and one of the Lead Dancers (also called their Visual). In this video, she has the Purple hair. GORGEOUS lady.
SuA is their Main Dancer but she is actually really good on Vocals AND she is part of the Rap line, too (although she decided to take a long break from Rapping in order to work on her Vocals more, so Gahyeon stepped in as a Rapper). SuA has the highest pitch of any of their voices, and she is NOT the Main Vocalist! She will completely accidentally call dolphins when she laughs! We have to get you to react to her laughing, she really is iconic.
Siyeon is the Main Vocalist and she is the one you noticed with the high notes here.
    Dongie was MIA here. :(
Yoohyeon had the Blonde hair here. She is one of their Lead Vocalists and their best linguist. When she speaks English, her lack of accent really throws people off, they might think her language skill is better than it actually is just because of how great she sounds. She knows LOTS of languages now.
Dami is the Main Rapper and she is totally under-rated as a Vocalist. She has covered Adele on her own! Not many people can do that! Always amazing.
Gahyeon is the youngest member, a sub-vocalist (they really need to change that title for her, she's much better now than she was as a new member) and one of the Rappers. I am pretty sure she is the one who started this song. Her and SuA traded vocals back-and-forth before Yoohyeon started singing.
I don't mean to bother you at all, I just hope this helps you get the members straight. :)

  • @jamescurfman3284
    @jamescurfman3284 Рік тому +20

With all the different language stuff you mentioned from all the comments, Han Dong has also translated some of their Korean songs into Mandarin. In this way, she got to sing songs that she was not present for when the group made and performed those. Plus, sure, bring in more fans from her own country because now some of their biggest songs are in her language as well. BRILLIANT marketing move and shows that DC are truly International and care about their fan base. :)

Dreamcatcher is pretty unique in the Kpop scene... in so many ways. One thing that isn't particularly unique is actually making an album specifically for release in Japan that is written and sung in Japanese. Most successful Kpop groups release at least one album in Japanese. That said, Dreamcatcher has an unusually large international fanbase and relies more on (and pays more attention to) their international fans than most successful Kpop groups.

Their first ever studio album, The Beginning Of The End, was in Japanese and was produced by Ponican. It has many of their famous songs in Japanese (all music by Ponican is in Japanese). Endless Night was released later. My favorite Japanese song though is Eclipse, their last ever. It was released in 2021, the first year of their success and was not promoted by Ponican at all. I think it was even recorded in Korea. Such a waste, as it is the ultimate anime song!

I went to your channel video list; I did not scroll very far but I did not see what I was looking for.
So, might I suggest, Rolling Quartz? They are a 5-piece K-Rock/ Metal band. I guess the vocalist counts her voice as an instrument, but all of the other four members play guitars or bass guitar or drums.
One of the coolest things Rolling Quartz did was when they covered DreamCatcher's song Good Night! They had DCC/ happyface's blessing to do so, partially because the band has been close with some of the producers of DC for a while. RQ's drummer is also Han Dong's drum teacher. :)
Basically, RQ stuffed all the coolest things about the MVs from the Nightmare Series into a single MV when they covered Good Night. Of course it's WAY different than the original version! These ladies play the instruments themselves and they have one single vocalist who does everything including Rap while the other four members are backup singers at certain places.
I am pretty sure you will at least 'like' them, if not 'love' them. :)

2:59 Jrock Dreamcatcher is intended for the Japan market.
As I recall, (CMIIW) promotions for the third Japan single (or maybe other Japan single album versions) and concerts in Japan were canceled due to the Corona 19 outbreak.
    Endless Night.
The single's title track was produced by Japan guitarist Kuboty (who also provided the guitar & bass parts), while the drum parts was provided by Katsuma of Japan post-hardcore band Coldrain.
In March 2020, the Dreamcatcher dropped their underrated Japan single, “Endless Night.” With it being the first of three tracks off the single album of the same name, it’s easily one of the most memorable in Dreamcatcher’s Japan discography.
One interesting fact about the single itself is that it was produced by Japan guitarist Kuboty, who also participated in providing the guitar and bass parts of the song.
The drums were provided by Katsuma of the Japan post-hardcore band coldrain.
With help from Kuboty, Katsuma, and Dreancatcher’s rock sound, the production of this track is a perfect match.
If you’re absolutely obsessed with rock or Dreamcatcher, it would be fit to not forget this classic Japan single.
    Tracklist :
    Endless Night
    Over the Sky (Japanese Ver.)
    Silent Night (Japanese Ver.)
I hope you see this as a reference too. Blow your mind !

    ps :
    - CEO Dreamcatcher (Korean) veteran Jrock.
    - Btw, I'm assuming, "B-Side" Dreamcatcher is another name for mainstream music in Korea while Dreamcatcher's identity is the mainline Rock genre and separate from the mainstream in the Korean music industry.
    - When you react to Dreamcatcher's music, legally, you're part of witnessing Korean music history. This also applies to those watching.

Thank you for the fun reaction! This comment is 5 days late, and even if it wasn't, I'm sure you don't need more recommendations--so I'll just respond to some of your thoughts. And say that I enjoy the long, thoughtful, rant-y reactions.
First of all, yes, "Endless Night" _is_ in Japanese. The fact that you can tell the difference between Japanese and Korean by listening puts you ahead of a hell of a lot of Americans, honestly. Of course, it's always good to try and learn more about other languages and cultures, but the fact that you can do that much without any formal study of either language is nothing to sneeze at.
6:47 "Wow, she gets up there." Yep, that's our main vocalist, Siyeon ("she-yon")! She actually doesn't have the highest vocal range in the group, but she does have the most stable belt when it comes to more rock-ish vocals.
9:58 "God, her high notes..." This time, it was Yoohyeon! ("yooh-(h)yon," the h is more or less silent.) She's what Kpop calls a lead vocalist, which is someone with really strong vocals who isn't officially the vocal leader. I'm of the opinion that Yoohyeon and Siyeon are equally skilled and gorgeous singers, but their voices just sit in slightly different places and have different qualities, so it's like comparing apples and oranges. Love them both.
Actually, the first half of the last chorus is all Yoohyeon and the second half is all Siyeon, so if you listen to it a few times over, you can hear some of the differences.
Please don't take this as a demand for content, just info for you as a potential new fan of the group: Dreamcatcher is releasing a new album, _Apocalypse: From Us,_ on May 24th! We don't know the tracklist yet, but the title track on this album will be the final part of the Apocalypse Trilogy ("MAISON," "VISION" (your previous reaction), + [tbd new title track]).

just a warning, not every dreamcatcher song will be as hard or as rock as endless night. after all, dreamcatcher isn't really rock nor metal. they just incorporate rock/metal elements in different ways in many of their songs. they also incorporate other genres so not all their songs are rock. in short, dreamcatcher's discography is more an exploration in music perhaps in ways you haven't heard before with very few two songs even sounding remotely alike.
