I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos Richard, and Whittington is partcularly special to me as my father's ashes are interred in St John The Baptist church grounds just opposite. He was an Essex lad but moved to Wellington when he was a child and fell in love with Shropshire. It was always his wish to have his final resting place in Whittington.
its great to see so many families enjoying the area and the children enjoying the ruins, what better way to fire there imagination about our past, thanks for the walk Richard
Since you live on the south coast, would it ever be possible for you to cross the channel and show us some places in northern France? It's closer to you than Shropshire.
I thought the history you were giving on the castle was very informative - just hard to hear sometimes over the sqeals. I was shocked that children (or anyone for that matter) were allowed to run on the ruins😱 I wouldn't think that would help in preserving what is left?!!? But beautiful grounds nonetheless & I loved the pond/mote, & the main entrance (which I'm guessing was originally prob a guards house that controlled a drawbridge???).
Even worse is children being allowed to jump and climb over the ruins of abbey churches. Why is it that today's parents can't teach their children respect? Respect for places, and also for the people who visit them?
Parliamentarian armour was discovered in the moat during excavations there, along with cannon balls along with other items.
Beautiful piece of stonework, thanks to you I am planning out my bucket list on the places to visit when I come to the British Isles.
Shropshire is beautiful and I hope to cover more places in Shropshire as well as the South East, and later the rest of this fabulous country.

What a nice-looking place.
It's a lovely gate house and ruin.
On an ever-increasing list to visit.
Well done. It must’ve been tricky to do with so many children running around. Looked like an interesting place though, a huge site.
