- Hey Darlings!!
THIS IS PART #5 OF THE CHINA SERIES!!!! THE LAST EPISODE & END OF THE CHINA SERIES!
So much happened but we can’t talk about it now because today is all about my sudden departure from CHINA!
In this video, I unpack all my frustration with what it was like to teach in CHINA.
There are no hard feelings whatsoever when coming to the PRC 🇨🇳 P.S - Please don’t be shocked when you see me vlogging from there one day, because it’s still a country I would like to explore further & shall be going back for it all!

Watched this entire video, and honestly, I can't fault you for leaving.
I came here to teach kindergarten but find myself working as if I'm a content creator, choreographer, director of events, and the Chinese assistant teachers in classes just sit on their phones doing nothing if classes become unruly. I was never ready for the squat toilets, but luckily, my school and apartment have a western toilet.
I compare my experiences to my friends in South Korea, and I wish I had gone there, particularly cause of the small things that aren't ever mentioned, like societal differences. Just booking into a hotel here is a mission cause some don't accept foreigners, going to a museum is such a bore cause you yourself end up becoming the attraction. People turn their cameras from the statues to us 😂 it gets old real quick. I'd rather pretend not to speak Chinese than have 100 people ask the same questions the whole day. But I'm in a very low tier city, so my experience differs greatly from people in tier 1 cities like Beijing or Shanghai. Those are the ones who really blow up, but they never say what bad experiences they went through in their previous schools before landing that "dream job" in higher tier cities.
I think more youtubers in China need to be more honest. They present teaching in China as if its the "perfect work environment."
Whenever i watch a video of "pros and cons," it always seems like they aren't truly speaking their minds about what they really disliked or went through in the schools they worked at here in China before finding their "dream school."
I value blunt honesty over selling dreams.
And I truly value our community of South Africans here in China. Without them, I probably would've had a much more difficult time shem. China can be a tough pill to swallow, but it can also be quite the adventure😂
People only show the "instagram-able" side of China, with the high tech and great service.
But they dont show the people selling fruits and veg on the streets, men walking around with their stomachs out, aunties chilling in groups talking loudly in the lobby of an apartment late at night, fancy malls selling fake brands that look legit (Check the spelling lol, Abidas). China has many sides to it, but when people think "I want to teach in China," they think of living in a tier 1 city where there are many other foriegners, working an easy job, high salary, etc. But we have to start from the bottom and work our way up so we can find those great schools. A lot of us find that we'll be the only foreigner in the entire school.
Sad as it is, South Africa is at the bottom of the preference list with the way the ESL market has opened up. I hate how we're expected to accept the outright rascism from job posts that say they don't want black people, they only want "Europeans." Note, this is not all schools, but it is worth noting for people who are still not aware of how things have been happening here.
As advanced as China is economically and technologically, I think they still have a long way to go to catch up to the world, and even to other homogenous societies like South Korea and Japan, etc.
For me, China is not a destination, it is a step towards a bigger goal.
I'm glad I came here cause it showed me the big man knew I could learn a lot from all these challenges and I absolutely love my students, but I do not plan to spend the rest of my career constantly having open classes to prove that my skin color isn't a detriment to my teaching skills and gaving a camera shoved in my face everytime so I can be used as a token foreigner teacher/friend.
So, as sad as I am that you had such a negative experience, I value your honesty and you sharing your experience, and I wish you all the best. Can't wait to see what big moves you make.

The camera part,,I really hate. So much.China is really crazy.I feel so inhumane.whenever I raise a concern in my school, they never attend to it. I live in a small apartment at the rooftop of the school, without a window and a kitchen.Mind you!!!! There’s rooms next to mine, with windows and ive been asking to be moved there but I didn’t get a response.
This video is so REAL!
The truth in this😂
@@saneledlamini8339 Definitely switch apartments asap. It makes such a difference!
As for the cameras, it gets on my nerves as well. I ignore it cause it's part of the marketing for the school, but I can see even my students get sick of having cameras in their faces every time, it stops them from properly enjoying lessons.
Perhaps we should visit S.Korea one day to get a taste for life on the other side where people aren't constantly taking my pictures without permission.
I'm sending you all hugs and support! 🌻💖
OMG!! This was such a great read 🥹 I could already put images of what you described above, and can related to some of the things you mentioned!
Don’t get me started about the men with their bellies out, the loud Aunty’s , fruits & veggies on the streets, the smoking part 😅 there is A LOT really.
I had to be honest about this one even though I had such a great time in Korea. I felt annoyed that I didn’t have a good story to share but it was my experience nonetheless and not sharing was going to mean I come onto the platform to lie to people and only show them the good side of the ESL industry & my life (Can never be me)
I’m glad you actually started in a lower tier city in China & not in Korea first. You wouldn’t have been impressed with that city of yours if you had started in Korea 😅 I compared almost everything to Korea hence why I even mentioned the inconvenience of being there.
I will admit that the school I worked for was great because they exposed me to a proper curriculum & the training was great, just wish it were in a different country with different students? 😅 You are doing so much at your school, but you know what? You’re learning extra skills at the same time, however I can only imagine that the workload must be a lot?
The staring part was something else but I got that in Korea at times, what I didn’t understand was Chinese people speaking to me even when I shook my head to show them I didn’t understand what they were saying 😭😭
Anyway, I would like to connect with you via email, I have a proposal that I would like to pitch to you, please share your email address with me if you don’t mind or better - please email me so I can tell you about it 🥹
Oh my! Your living conditions 😭 please tell me they will attend to your needs, no kitchen? Where do you eat? At the school? What happens during school holidays?
I wonder how the Chinese expect us to accept them here in South Africa with that attitude! It's a good thing they are showing their true colours early. We thank people like you who are honest about showing the true picture of China. All South Africans/ black people have to be aware of what is happening for future references. This video must be shared as much as possible!
But you do
Amandla ✊🏾
lol you guys only realise this now . Instead you guys are hating on your fellow Africans. Whites don’t even like you all
I honestly think black people are not liked anywhere in the world , even back at home in South Africa! You’re also right to say We hate on each other, I see it a lot at home & abroad too. Saddening! It is painful being hated by other races, but I do think being hated by your own has to be even more painful.
I think they always have been showing their true colours but people didn’t speak much of it, it’s just worse now that we have these platforms. I know of some Saffas who are complain about the same thing in Korea too, being black is beautiful but painful too really.
Shooo Bee🙆🏽♀️ and here I was thinking I am crazy for leaving China after 3 months because my mental health was more important.oh my goodness I relate to everything you mentioned in this video🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️ Thank you for sharing your truth honey🫂❤️
No Khensi! You’re not crazy 😅 sometimes we don’t have the best experiences in these countries. Good on you for leaving because of your mental health, proud of you. I wouldn’t have risked it either. I wish I had a better experience though, I did want to work in China for a bit especially considering I had a school that had the type of curriculum I liked 🥺🥺🥺 I hope you’re feeling much better now ❤️ By the way, would you be interested in being part of a video project I’m working on? I’m looking for teachers who don’t mind sharing their experience of teaching abroad, could be good or bad? 5 minutes of you telling your story 🥹 Please let me know if you are interested, I would love to feature you too.
So sorry you had to go through all of this, I think you should go back SK ❤ you were glowing there
Aaaaw Khanyi 🥺 Thank You…Yeah Korea had a thing for me 🥰
What an enlightening video! Thank you so much and I'm so proud of you for choosing and saving yourself. I know it must have been hard to make that decision even though you knew it was for the best. All the best mama♥️
Thank You Zandi! Yes it wasn’t easy 🥹 can we talk about the stress my body went through, the money lost throughout the process 😩 my excitement levels dropping to below 0 🤣 I’m good now and don’t regret leaving. Given an opportunity to relive that moment again, I would’ve still left.
You are so articulate and a good story teller. Enjoyed watching 😊
Thank You Mixo. I appreciate this 🥺❤️
Ohh Queen Bee, my heart just sank upon watching this. But im happy that you put yourself first and never compromised on your health and well being. Looking foward to seeing you get back to ESL. Lots of love ❤
Thank You Zodumo 🥰 I’m also glad I made a great decision here. I needed this time out as well to figure out if I want to continue with the ESL world or not ❤️

Thank you for sharing this ❤️. I’m so sorry for the stress you had to go through 😢 and to think I wanted to go there. No thanks. I’ll pass.
You are welcome! Remember though, our experiences are different. Some people are having a great time there…Try it out and see 🥹
You really are the Queen👑 you think you are! I love the self respect and self love! No compromise 💅🏿 I really appreciate your transparency and bravery.
Thank You Mole. Wasn’t the easiest decision but I had to put myself first here 🥹 otherwise these jobs will be the end of us nje.
Missed your videos. I’m glad you chose your happiness over money. Happiness is MOST important!!
This warms my heart so much 🥰 I’m back, trying to get into it after this “break” money is not everything 🥲 we’ve established it now akere.
Woow my Queen! I would have left as well. Those conditions were unbearable. By the way, you are still beautiful and i love you.
I’m glad I’m not crazy or ungrateful 😅 I’m normal mos…Thank You so much Beautiful. Sending you love back, Sarangee ❤️❤️❤️
You got me hooked up from the get go🥺
You've gained a subbie here
This was very informative, thank you for raising awareness
Hi Dimphon❤️ Ke a leboha ngwana mme 😊 welcome to the fam…
I think your experience is based on your school situation plus you arrived in China with the wrong mentality. You could have try another city or school. I agree the discrimination is a thing which is wrong.
I work with many South African teacher in Tianjin and their experiences has been good for the most part.
Anyway, good luck in your future endeavours.
Totally agree. I visited a few countries in Europe and missed Shanghai. We can be in the same country and city but experiencing a WHOLE different life. All of them are valid, positive or negative
Yup I agree… lol wrong mentality from the get go
Yeah I arrived not liking China, which is allowed, I’m also not a fan of the place 🥹 I think you also missed the part where I mentioned that I loved my school , they actually took care of me besides the small things that bothered me. There are a lot of others things I mentioned that resulted in me being unhappy with where I was, all in that video.
I actually did try to find another job in China before I left, but finding the exact same job in China in a city like Shanghai is not as easy as you say it. I also have preferences when coming to where I want to be in China, something I mentioned in the video as well.
I have a friend in Beijing who’s having a great time, just like the other teachers in Tianjin that you’ve mentioned but sadly I’m not them or my friend, I know I would’ve not liked Tianjin or Beijing either including 85% of the other cities in China.
My reason for being in the ESL industry is also not the same as anyone’s, hence why I look at things like location, convenience , aesthetics, transport system, cultural differences etc.
I think Shanghai is probably a place I would’ve stay in 😅 landing jobs there was a challenge! Often being told schools in that area don’t want South Africans.
Which one 🥹 not liking China? 😅 but I don’t, can’t lie about this one🥲 I actually said I didn’t allow my first experience turn me off & still went mos 😅
So sad to hear!! We will always be rooting for you, you’re a queen for say no and leaving! Such an inspiration darling ❤️ ALSO YOUR MAKEUP AND HAIR IS GIVING, we need a tutorial!!
ABBEY!!!!! So lovely to see you here 🥰 Thank You so much!! How have you been? Tutorial from a beginner like me? 😅 my eyebrows are tinted, I got them done - makes life so much easier
I’m in disbelief yoooh just a month !! Babe you are brave and I love this for you !!! Listen !! I get you ! I get you ! Since I moved to Taiwan I lost my spark !!! Going home next month ! I can hardly wait !
Hi, I saw the video where you discussed this. I guess things haven't gotten better. Your happiness comes first, it's good that you recognized this before it affects your mental state.
I remember that video where you went on a rant about Taiwan a few months ago!! Finally leaving? 🥺🥺 I’m guessing you’ve decided otherwise about iPRC. You might need a breather before embarking on this one. You need to get that spark back please. Sending you lots of love 🥰❤️🫂 can’t wait for an update video!
Right!! Super proud of her too 😁
I’m going through the same lol. Yoooh these kids are hard to manage. I’m only holding on cause on the awesome benefits. I miss korea every day
Korea is a dream at times if you land a good contract and school hey 🥰
I want to hear of this story 😅

Thanks Mili 🥺 I’ll always choose peace and happinesses over it all mtase ❤️
QUEEN I have been telling a friend of mine who has a teaching degree to try UAE but she just wont listen. I envy her qualification tjo I wouldnt even consider China.
NB: Every situation is different.
People with Teaching licenses ne…I envy them! I would literally try every country until I’m happy & settled (except for China like I said) 😅 maybe she will try it one day 🥺 let her take her time…
Very true 🥹
I'm leaving end of June, happy af. This place is never long-term.
How's your experience 😢
I’m so glad you’re happy to be leaving! Please share your email address with me if you don’t mind or please email me. I have a proposal for you and the other teachers 🥹
I can relate that part of the throat😂😂😂
Yeah class management is a hell like but once they learn you enjoy
Your classes
On summer holidays waiting for the new semester 😉😉
I’m pretty sure there is a part where people do start to enjoy teaching the little ones, perhaps one day I should give them a shot again & see how things work out (In a different city though) 😅 I won’t lie, I’m kicking myself right now because I would’ve also been on a summer break for a whole 6 weeks 🥹 I hope you enjoy it! All the best for the next semester.
I love your energy… I’m also pro “leave what doesn’t appreciate you”. I always say we should stop accepting bare minimum.
Thank you! ❤️ Yes we need to say no to bare minimum. There’s a whole world out there waiting to receive us 😁
Waze wamuhle sisi❤️
Ngiyabonga sthandwa 🥰
I thank God you coming home. I have had a lot about China its not pleasant
I’m so glad I did too ❤️ Better early than later on after suffering mentally or something 🥹
My plan was always to go to China after a few years of teaching in Korea but this sounds like a nightmare ☹️😭
Our experiences are different Babe. You may have a good one. I always say: go and see it for yourself then decide 😁 Korea’s prettier & more organised , easier to live in lol okay let me stop right here 😅
I worked in 4 different Hagwons in Korea and each time I held on hoping it would get better (in some cases it did for awhile and then it got worse). Never feel bad for leaving a situation that doesn't align with you because after "bekezelaring" I now suffer from anxiety. Great video. There are people who have had positive experiences and negative experiences in both countries. China can be very overwhelming (I've done both swell). I like that your bosses went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I had only experienced toxicity (in the Hagwons). We live and we learn
I’m really really sorry you suffering from anxiety as a result of working in these Hagwons. The ESL industry can be such a dark place for us , it’s like we’re not suppose to be in these jobs!
I’m happy I left and yeah my school was kind enough to make me comfortable. I would be lying if I said I didn’t eat any support from them especially from my coordinator, that guy was amazing!
People have had great and bad experiences in both Korea & China. I actually want to hear more about your experiences in Korea if you’re keen to share more? Please share your email details with me if you don’t mind or please email me. I have a proposal for you and the other Teachers 🥹
I am currently in hagwon the work load is shit!! I hate that I have zero vacation days Yoh!!! 😢
@@KennaSeladiand the racial undertones. I might be different for you but in every Hagwon job I had nationally and race affects how you’re treated and the micro aggressions there of. Have you considered Taiwan? Only reason I’m saying this is because China is over saturated and they seem to be on their “white girls summer” 🫤 It’s always worth a look, you’ll definitely have more vacation days there
@@luyandachamane2093 I will check Taiwan. I have almost 3months in SK and I just wanna leave in December before my contracts end. I am on the other hand applying for Epik as then opened yesterday
Thank you for the information 🙏
Anytime ❤️
My goshness! This is alot!!! Did you feel safe though as a black women in China?
I did, I’ve never felt unsafe in China to be honest. Thankfully I didn’t get treated badly at work or out in public, just these small things that became big in a space of a week 😅 Made me appreciate my life at home more (not that I didn’t of course)
The school sounds like a nightmare 😂😂 I think the school could have supported you better. Classroom management can be a nightmare but I love babies man.
I think I could’ve received more support too, but babies…babies…not for me, don’t know what life for me would’ve have been like in Kindie…My school had a great curriculum though, there was some sort of structure there and great training, something I will most def miss 😁
Welcome back honey 🎉🎉🎉
YAAAAAAY!!
Bona girl 🎉well done
Kea leboha divine 🥰
That sounds like a really good contract yazi sisi❤❤
It really was on paper 🥹 literally the best paying job I’ve landed to be honest! 😅
Beautiful video darling thanks ❤
Thanks so much Babe ❤️
Very informative. There is no pressure for the Chinese to change and I doubt they feel like they have too. Sadly
Absolutely! Especially for us? Why would they? It’s either you deal with it all or ship out…
I watched the whole video and you are totally right, I was punished to try discipline unruly, spoiled and disruptive students. I am leaving China for good, as well. this country is not for us, Shem.
The spoiled students ne. Wondering if our private school kids are like this coz nah. This was not it.

hhahahahaaha when you start from SKorea China can be a challenge socially...but money wise lovely!!
I thought so too! They’re different in so many ways! I told a friend the last time that it’s easier to start from China then do Korea after 😅 The money is honestly lovely, Korea could never 🥹 I also think China has more opportunities school wise,it’s easier to get into Private & International schools there unlike in Korea. The benefits in China trump Korea’s in my opinion but ey everyone needs to pick a battle with such things 😁 thanks for watching.
@@queen_be oh yeah China had to hit you hard I sincerely understand, the hygiene situation is what we all have to deal with here its rough but for the money we brave the situation, also in 1st tier cities the conditions are somewhat better. Absolutely spot on!!! The hygiene part is a big deal for me, but I understand what you mean about braving it out for money. At the end of the day, we all have our own different reasons why we stay in these jobs. Yeah the Chinese are all about that work being done, Koreans are the same too, what makes Korea better for me is that it’s newer & way more developed. Shenzhen is a nice place, I think I would’ve stomached it to be honest, I liked it there. I absolutely understand that people’s experience will be different. However the first 11 minutes, your tone is very condescending towards China. You had a terrible mindset to begin with. The students could be managed with more training , and asking for help from the Chinese teachers. I’m all for moving on if you feel your physical or mental health is under threat or you simply just don’t like the place. However you can’t expect an entire country to accommodate you. You quickly learn to adapt. There are multiple tricks to surviving as an expat. Do your research guys before going and when you arrive. Google your city, search for it on UA-cam. Also remember why you left SA. Keep the main thing , the main thing. However leave amicably if it doesn’t suit you. I couldn’t get to the end of this video.
Thank you for your watching.
I was just being honest about my feelings from beginning to the end. I didn’t know that was having a terrible mindset, I mentioned that I was going to give the opportunity a try despite not being a fan of the country.
I didn’t ask the entire country to accommodate me. I lived in 1 particular place that I spoke about in the video not the whole of China. It’s unfortunate you also didn’t watch the entire video because you missed the part where I elaborated further on this.
I actually did the necessary research, asked people who have been there & live there too. I never just jump into things, I did for Korea & other countries too. Watching UA-cam video’s & hearing other people’s opinions is barely enough as we experience things & places differently just like you and I.
My main thing & reason for leaving S.A is to country hop & work in different places hence why it was easy for me to leave. I’ve always said people must do what works for them, I did exactly that 😁
bro wtf .. stop talking like that.. and i know you call yourself a queen but just by calling it you won't become one.. 😅😅😅
And guys just because she had a hard time in China (which i think because of her own hipster attitude) she is lying and exaggerating about alot of the stuff
Firstly I’m not “bro” secondly, I’m not sure if you think your opinion of me will change what I think of myself. I am exactly the woman I think I am ❤️
It’s honestly okay if you think that I’m exaggerating about a lot of stuff, that’s your opinion and you’re entitled to one. What you won’t do is come onto my platform and tell me I’m lying about my experiences. Don’t disrespect me like that. Allow me to share my own valid experiences, and if you don’t agree with them, you’re welcome to come relive them for me.

Queen Be: tells a horror story
Also Queen Be: "...It's not a horror story, it's just my preferences"
Girl, you went through a nightmare I don't think I would have survived!
Really??! I kept asking if I quit too soon 😅 I used to read posts of people saying we must give new places a few months before deciding to leave…The toilet situation killed me, made it impossible for me to stay nje, the other things just confirmed what I was feeling in my heart 😅
I’m happy I didn’t stay…I’m happy I still went to try it out too 🥹
Adorable Gal. Definitely I'll write you an email for more informative tips.
Anytime Babe ❤️
The toilet situation - Oh No !! After watching this I get why you left 😭🫢
If your squat game is not on point then prepare for training sessions 🤣🤣🤣 I’m speaking from experience! Taking breaks in between 😭
