So true. A purple then is what a black is now. I was sweeping black belt divisions as a brown belt around 2005 or so on, I didn't get my black belt until 2009. We didn't pay for belt tests, we didn't do belt tests. It's the instructors job to know their students abilities in and out. Blue takes like two years where im at. And you have to train all the time and spar. Not sure how hard it is if you actually put your mind to it, but its not easy.
