One is a beast of a tablet true... the other a sh*t laptop that overheats and throttle, barely usable with photoshop and more demanding software, only works well for web surfing and netflix.

@@Montpbm7 you're the fool. This one doesn't run 64 bit applications, and lags incredibly while running 32 bit applications. The applications on Windows store are the only one that runs on this machine and therefore iPad Pro is much better
Love my IPad Pro. Great device. I did notice though you only mentioned 4K 30fps on IPad Pro. It does 60FPS as well. I also believe it has 5 microphones vs 3 as you mentioned allowing stereo recording.
@Carl Miller It's an amazing device for Netflixing for people with loads of money to spare. Great sound, great display and battery ^^ It also looks new and fresh. Some people buy a car while well-off people buy the best iPad money can buy ;)
I have both and use both side by side. Different use cases. The iPad is better for quick things not requiring advanced input and management. Anything desktop related is for the Surface. I have not felt the lack of any apps on the Surface, as it's mainly an office computer. I actually love the surface for what it's designed to do. I love the iPad for what it's designed for.
I have an ipad pro 11, just for taking pictures of my projects. But i need more high performance tablet that capable to run a software like Revit, Blender, Archicad, Maya and C4D. Im gonna get Surface Pro.
But it also has a larger screen. i.e. A 55" 1080p TV and a 10" 1080p tablet may have the same resolution, but the 10" screen will still appear more clearly because the TV has to stretch the same number of pixels over a much larger area. While the iPad Pro does have a higher resolution, it's more useful to know how many pixels are in an amount of space. (just like the tablet vs TV). But in reality, both have such high resolutions for their size, there's really no point in comparing pixel count.
I love my iPad Pro 11. It was my first iPad after wanting one for years but between the lack of storage, no USB support, etc.etc.etc. I kept saying 'maybe next year'. If Apple keeps up the improvements they made with iPadOS this thing is going to be an absolute beast soon. As of right now the only complaints I have is the awful mouse support (it's not even worth considering, it's a bad implementation that moves inconsistently and requires a floating button) and the fact that you can't resize the 'floating' app to make it smaller. Watching a video in that is a massive waste of space, which is what I primarily use it for. Oh and if you use remote desktop, download the 'Testflight' app and join the Microsoft profile and download the beta version of RD Client. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the RD client in the app store. It supports the full screen (Appstore version is 4:3), hardware acceleration, higher resolution, and video playback within the app. I was very excited for the Surface Pro X. And then I started seeing all of the app incompatibility and that's not something I want to deal with on a $1200 device with keyboard and pen. 'maybe next year'. (Though the $600 Surface Pro 7 including keyboard looks like a sweet deal if you can deal with 4GB of RAM in Windows).

UA-cam deletes comments with links, but 'Surface Pro 7' and it's the first result. It's stated to be $600 again on Black Friday pretty much everywhere including the Microsoft Store.
Just a heads up. When it comes to inputting, such as a keyboard, the Surface Pro X has a great backlit keyboard to type on. Also, writhing on the Surface Pro X feels better to write on the screen, vs the iPad Pro. I also found that when I am viewing YourTube on the iPad Pro, it limits the viewing to 1080P max. On the Surface Pro X it can go a lot higher. I also believe that even though you can play with some settings on the iPad Pro to somewhat work with a mouse, it’s not really designed for that and can not really work with a mouse and a track pad the way it should and reap the full benefits of having a true mouse and track pad support. They are both really good devices and have their pluses and minuses, but, if you want a computer for business, you will see the limitations of using the iPad Pro. Just giving my two cents. :)
The only problem I’ve found so far with the mouse is that you cant invert the scroll wheel, but you get used to the direction eventually and it will probably happen later.
Howard Aber I practice law and the iPad Pro has completely replaced my laptop. I really have not found any limitations since iPad OS came out (including trying cases with the iPad Pro). A lot of this has to do with the Apps that are available for the iPad (Microsoft’s Office Apps are great) and the fact that I use both a Brydge Keyboard and the Apple version (depending on how portable I want to be), but what really makes a difference is the display and the battery life. And while both are great devices, I simply do not see the Surface Pro X competing while its limiting apps to 32 bit versions. To be fair, I do not believe either can be your only computer (yet), but if you want to replace a laptop, I can vouch for the iPad Pro.
Mario Alfaro I agree and happy that the iPad Pro is working out for you. Most of the time I am on my iPad Pro as well. The Apps are really fined tuned to work with the iPad Pro and work very smoothly. I purchased the Logitech Slim Folio Pro keyboard and really enjoy typing on it. Of course, it adds a lot of weight to it and limits the viewing angles. The Surface Pro X, even though it’s not completely ready with the Apps now, has a great form factor that makes it ideal for me to type on, view on and write on. I am hoping that Microsoft and the developers fine tune the software to work with the ARM 64 to make it work and to make it work smoothly. I see some Apps that work very fast and with no problems, they are the ARM 64 Apps. I realize that it will take time and patience and hope that it will be a sooner than a later fix. Because, I really love the form factor of the Surface Pro X and really believe that once the software will be fine tuned to work with that processor, I will be able to do all that I need to do in my work with it. Of course, if I was to work on drawing, then I will use my iPad Pro and Procreate. Thanks Mario and have a good one! Howie :)
Howard Aber I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s the ARM 64 compatible software that will make the biggest difference for users. I also agree that the form factor is very nice. I truly hope Microsoft continues down this road because even though Apple is good at pushing itself, there is nothing like competition to really bring out the best from both companies. And then we all win.
I use my iPad Pro a lot more than my Surface Pro, but it's almost exclusively for casual computing purposes. When asked of either device "can it replace a laptop", the answer is down to the operating system. While the iPad Pro easily has the hardware chops to replace most laptops, the simple fact is you can do a lot more on a Surface Pro when it comes to serious productivity due to the fact that it is running a fully-fledged desktop operating system with fully-fledged desktop applications. Apple are slowly starting to introduce features that will hopefully make the iPad Pro more of a viable "pro" tier device (particularly with the introduction of iPadOS), but for the moment there is a very common misconception that the Surface Pro and the iPad Pro are competing for the same market space, when in actual fact there is not a lot of overlap.
As long as the iPad does not run a real OS, for me, Surface way better. And I believe that in 1-2y the compatibility for arm system on windows will improve significantly, because many brands are lunching those type of machines. The iPad is a great machine, no doubts, but is still a tablet...
Depends on what you’re doing. Full blown windows with tablet specs forced to run full blown programs is going to benefit a photographer/videographer? Windows forces you into a laptop or the surfacebook. For the cost it’s the best bang for your buck for a portable device

I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
Excellent video. Love the objectivity. Have worked with iPads since 2010 (+MBA). iPad Pro 11 was game-changer. First tablet that will last as long as a laptop (5 years). In fact, might replace MBA with 12.9 - larger screen for running 2 apps/pages side-by-side.
Brown Dog yeah I got the 12.9, it’s really wonderful to write notes on and draw and all that, the Smart Keyboard works great too. It’s overall just a really great setup for a student
M M definetly go for it, there’s no better tablet or even device for a student than an iPad and an Apple Pencil, and if you can get the keyboard, definitely get that too, it’s amazing
I’m watching this on a basic iPad 2019 that I just bought, but a Surface Pro3 replaced my laptop way back in 2014 and it’s still going strong, the first thing I used the Surface for was editing 36mp DSLR photos in full lightroom. I would go for the Surface pro 7 rather than this X, the move to ARM in the Surface pro line worries me though the form factor does look good.
I'm sure that FaceID is much more secure. The Surface Face Unlock only uses a single camera while the iPad uses 3D sensors. It's kinda a joke that the iPad Pro literally DESTROYS the Pro X in terms of power and performance while also lasting longer. That's all Qualcomm has to offer?
Tim R. That’s because iPadOS and iOS are purpose built to ensure long battery life.. If iPad Pro were to run full fledged macOS then battery life would undoubtedly fall. That being said, though no doubt the iPad Pro comprehensively bears Surface Pro X
If you only gonna use iPad Pro to do benchmark test yes iPad wins. But. iPad has no accessibility to all kinds of resources while windows system has. So as for utility windows beat every operating system. Includes macOS iOS iPad OS whatever.
For now surface pro tablet-laptop may be comparable. But sooner or later full versions of Mac apps will come to iPad OS. Windows is trying to push developers to make apps compatible for ARM based processors but those developers don’t have any necessity and also not enough consumer base for doing this revolution. While Apple has a grip over their developers and thus most probably iPads will have complete desktop experience before surface tablets does. iPad Pro is already a performance beast, we just need to wait for developers to do their work. Then there would never be a comparison between iPads and other tablets.
It really is. I had to send mine back because there were so many things that it couldn’t do. Even the software that was designed to work on ARM processors wouldn’t work. It has lots of potential but it wasn’t for me.

A concept piece to test the waters is what both the X is, and the original iPad 1 was. Innovation requires sacrifices sometimes, hence why they released this to figure out what sacrifices need to be made and then figure out how to fix them. There’s always the Pro 7 for anyone who wants what Intel has.
This surface product is a great step...although some things are kinda messed up...it sure has the potential to be a perfect product... Microsoft should take notes from users instead of following some stupid trend..

Apple: iPad Pro has up to 10 hours of using time. Microsoft: surface proX has all day battery life up to 13 hours. And the test result at 13:21 is soo typical.
Microsoft still hasn't learned. On a tablet you have the precision of a finger, so you need different software than on your PC, where you have the precision of the tip of an arrow of a cursor.

Well, Windows 8 was perfect in its time ! I don't understand why when MS built Windows 10, they should have put the tablet mode of windows 8 instead of the tablet mode of windows 10.
I bought an iPad 12.9, but I think I'm going to give it back and get the Surface Pro X. It's too frustrating as a photographer, unable to use a full fledged Photoshop and Lightroom. I even bought Affinity Photo, but I'm not really feeling it. It slows down my workflow too much.
Huge disappointment that the X can run full Windows 10 and not be compatible with so much software. The ARM processor will kill sales unless Microsoft can get app developers to buy in. The X seems like it was released to early with even basic apps having limited availability. The X looks awesome though.
It depends. For all the software this device is aimed at - browsing, word processing, Photoshop, etc - it runs absolutely fine. And it can run 32-bit x86 apps through a light emulation layer. If you're a gamer or a power user, you won't be interested in ARM so its inability to run x64 apps won't be issue.
Idk man, I can see why people would compare these because they are meant to fill a similar role, but right now what I think Microsoft is missing is the app support on the ARM chips. If you're an early adopter, I think these ARM based chips are going to be commonplace a few years from now but right now on the Microsoft side they're taking computers and trying to make them replace tablets when Apple has it the other way around and I think right now that's the better approach. Meh, time will tell.

Such a joke to ask which one is a laptop replacement. Clearly the Surface Pro X is much more of a laptop already because it runs full Windows while I have an iPad Pro and even with iPad iOS, it’s still just a giant iPhone. I’m considering getting the Surface Pro X to replace my laptop and iPad Pro.

I would go for the iPad pro. I have used iPads extensively before never did I experience overheating issues and battery bulging with it. My Surface Pro 3 i7 256 gig was nearing its third year when its internal battery bulged and pushed outward the touch screen sides from its frame. I can't believe this happening to such an expensive premium PC tablet and I promised myself never to get another Microsoft hardware product. Better to research on the issues rather than what it can do.
SP X is not really representative for Microsoft, Microsoft have done their research in to putting raw power in a tablet and they've accomplished that more than successfully with SP 7. No fancy speakers no fancy screen or slim bezels - just decent screen, proper keyboard, full OS and good battery life - full versatility, some compromises that a windows user is extremely happy with. On the other hand ipad gives you the opposite, immersive experience with the screen, speakers and also fast at the cost of a limited OS that allows you to have great media experience with some possibility of productivity - but the keyboard, internals and OS tell you that is not made to replace your main computer on the go. SP X is an attempt in to the future and between the two worlds, that does nothing well. I have an SP 7 because I need something that runs everything (properly) and enjoy media decently.
its not about level or performance. both is different type. one is PC with nano sim and the other one is tablet nearby to PC ( but still tablet ) ( Both is still good enough on each type )
Both excellent portable computing devices. Choice is down to OS. For me, it is the iPad Pro, all day long. It is unequivocally the most versatile computing device out there!
Also, no there are no limitations for video editing. Everyone uses Luma Fusion a full professional grade editor with no compromise. It's one of the top apps in the app store. That's what pro's are using who use iPad Pro. With iPad Pro you can edit multi streams of 4K60 with 0 lag or stutter. No one using iPad Pro uses iMovie to edit video. Luma Fusion also blows away Adobe Premier. The same goes for other creation. Like art, design, illustration, and painting. Modern software blows legacy software away and blows away the experiences that you get with even the top spec i7 Surface Pro. The Pro X has no software, there never will be anything other than weak non pro software for it, and comparing these two machines really doesn't make much sense. This thing can't even dance with the entry level iPad for $399 or the iPad Air. Those would have been a better comparison.
At this price point, think the iPad is worth it but the Surface isn't. The iPad has a terrific app ecosystem while apps for the ARM platform just aren't there. The reviews so far say that if you stick to web browsing, Netflix, email and MS Office it's fine, but outside of that you'll likely run into issues. Shame coz it's gorgeous hardware. If it was priced like the Surface Pro 7 would consider it.

@@user-nz7fm1vq6t the tab s6 comes with an spen and you can get a keyboard case that has a trackpad. It is the thinner that even the ipad. Androids ecosystem of apps is huge. Much larger than the surface but I agree some apps lacking in comparison to the ipad. But the tab s6 has dex mode which allows you to convert it from a tablet into a desktop layout which is a big deal for people who want to work on their tablets
ali taki you’re only focusing on what comes with the tab s6. The ipad pro is much better when it comes to the processing and power, it has no lag and has a 120 hertz display. There is no debate between android tablets and ipads.
"Ipad pro is prone to bending under extreme situations..." That made me laugh so hard! Apparently simply using the device under normal circumstances is now "extreme" for Ipad. That being said, software is the whole point of any of these devices. Ipad has it in spades, while Surface X is an absolute minefield of compatibility and performance issues. As far as professional grade applications, the Surface will run full Microsoft Office poorly, and almost none of the professional grade content creation applications that previous versions would run. The Ipad however, has seen some big improvements in the last 18 months in the apps available that provide professional grade capabilities for content creation, while running an absolutely terrible version of Office. Overall though, the Ipad has fitment for purpose, and fitment for platform, while the Windows tablet is another Surface RT with some hardware polish.

I would love to see a pro x with a headphone jack, a 90/120hz display, a much better chip, and a higher quality display (more color accurate, brighter, better HDR performance.) That would be the ULTIMATE device.
Those people saying iPad Pro is a tablet trying to to computer things, you guys have never used an iPad, all of you are talking like you are Twitch streamers that need a full-fledged I/O or video editing and accessing and tweaking system files all the time lol. Almost no one of you needs stuff like that. As a media consumer / light gamer, the iPad Pro is an absolute godsend for me. And it is for most of you as well.
I think people here are missing the point. I have both a Surface device and an iPad pro. iPad is close to unusable for anything other than email and web browsing. Office suite is just ridiculously painful to use, and just unusable in a professional environment (and MS Office is what professional environment demands, period). File management is still terrible in iPad and does not even deserve comparison, again completely useless for serious (not even professional) things. Imo, I'd probably choose the iPad provided two conditions: A) You already have a computer (mac, pc, whatever) you can rely on if needed. B) You are not going to use this device for serious work unless your work does not depend on Office suite (which I fail to se for most people). I would never recommend to buy an iPad pro as an only computer as it cannot compete with a full desktop os. As for the Surface Pro X, I have not used one, but it seems to me that it will perform well for people with usecases around web browsing, email and office suite. Yeah, Photoshop does not work but many people don't use Photoshop anyway, nor edit video. I guess if you do any of those things, SPX is also not a good option. As a final thought, I'd probably consider living only with a SPX, not with an iPad Pro.
Ipad pro's a12x bionic chip is a monster. The only case where surface pro x beats ipad pro, is the keyboard. I would prefer a surface pro 7 with core i7 processor for productivity over both of these 2 devices.
i slightly disagree.. i was able to make a music video in 4k with no problems on my ipad pro 12.9 using Lumatouch. Lumatouch pretty much a lil brother of the final cut pro.. i haven't used my i5 imac in months now...
This comparison was really bad and obviously biased towards the iPad... Not only by silly things like saying thst there is a huge weight differencence between the two (50 grams is a huge difference? Are you sérios) but by huge omissions like the fact that the surface pro X has 2 USB c ports, a built in kickstand, a freaking mouse pad, etc. Horrible comparison man.
Surface pro x gas 2 USB c ports, it has a full desktop experience meaning you can connect 2 4k displays and have a wonderful workplace across all 3 monitors. In iPad, only few apps support at most dual screen workflow
ipad looks better has more space for display. Windows system put too much small icons and words into the screen, which makes the screen look crowded and small.

Ipad is not only a tablet, is the full IOS that was build to deliver the maximum user experience for what it was made, with that ARM chip in mind. Windows can't really compete with that. I think every ipad users can feel the difference in OS quality and hardaware related quality, ipad is unbeatable
I'm a heavy Apple user. The iPad is a good device at $400 dollars. However, if you're spending $1000 or more, you should NEVER buy an iPad Pro. It's simply a horrendous long term investment for the price. If your choice is between a Surface "Pro" or an iPad "Pro" for the money, get a surface. It will be far more usable for far longer into its lifecycle than the equivalent iPad manufactured at the same point in time. If I'm going to spend $1000 or more, I'm investing in a proper laptop, be it a MacBook or an equivalent Windows PC; both will receive far longer software support than will any iPad. If Apple wants consumers to see iPads as viable laptop replacements, they need to offer much better long term support. As of now, the longest any iPad has seen IOS support has been the Air 2, and it likely won't get the next version of iPad OS. Conversely, if one looks at the Surface Pro 3, which was released the same year as the Air 2, it can still run the latest version of Windows 10, This is why I cannot take such comparisons as these seriously. No one with even a slight knowledge of computers would purchase ANY iPad as a laptop replacement, especially at a cost of over $1000 in order to attempt to use it as a laptop. As I said, for that money, I'd sooner buy a MacBook; but I would also consider a Surface. Consider that when Apple stops updates on the iPad, the user is left with little choice but to upgrade. Proper laptops allow the user to run windows, Mac OS or both, with the option to at least attempt to run linux. Choosing an iPad means committing to frequent upgrades. Anyone spending Laptop money on iPad "Pro" models is getting ripped off in the long term....plain and simple.

Depends. I would like to see more mouse functionalities added to future iOS versions. Right now, you can't use the mouse for iOS to right click stuff. It is only an accessibility option for those who have issues using touch. A real, macOS-like file manager would be the game changer for me.
GamingWiffJohn don't forget that the Surface is using an ARM chip... it's not as easy to use every software you can use on a normal "computer". The iPad really is much better in every way because Windows is not optimized for ARM chips when it comes to third party software.
I think the surface is far more convenient with the improved keyboard with a the pen holder, the built in stand, and the magnetic charger with 2 USB C ports

GamingWiffJohn you must have not watched many surface x reviews? It’s a huge disappointment and will continue to be unto software developers create apps for the arm processor. The surface x was trying to be an iPad but without a good App Store. I’m hoping the next Surface pro 8 takes on the shape of the x but with real internals.

As an engineering student using ipad pro for one year Its not that good, it lacks a lot of support, you cant use a proper version of Autocad or solidworks i don't recommend it for any engineering uses.
Why didn’t you think before buying lmao. For engineering purpose you need to buy a beast pc with an good GPU and a great processor, not a tablet. That’s just common sense.

it can run a lot of it, just not all of it. I wish they hadn't called it a Pro. It can run what 95% of people need (as can the iPad Pro) but the "pro" applications (like Premiere Pro) are lacking in for both the SPX and iPad Pro. That's where serious computers like Surface Pros, Surface Books, XPSes, and Macbook Pros come in. I'd also lob the same criticism at Apple for naming everything "pro."

No doubt the new ipad is an incredible piece of kit, but unless you a creative what’s the point if iOS are so limited in what you can run. You may as well stick to the older iPad Pro 17 to do your browsing/emails or if you are a power user and need a tablet go with the surface. Although I prefer macOS at least with windows on surface you are not limited to what you can run. I hope Apple realises this but sigh I don’t think they will ever want to eat into their MacBook market.

Love my IPad Pro. Great device. I did notice though you only mentioned 4K 30fps on IPad Pro. It does 60FPS as well. I also believe it has 5 microphones vs 3 as you mentioned allowing stereo recording.

For like 80% of people the iPad does everything they need without ever being on the way (like Windows or macOS). It's a good device in that sense.

I have both and use both side by side. Different use cases. The iPad is better for quick things not requiring advanced input and management. Anything desktop related is for the Surface.
I have not felt the lack of any apps on the Surface, as it's mainly an office computer. I actually love the surface for what it's designed to do. I love the iPad for what it's designed for.

I did the math. Even though the Surface has a higher resolution in one way, the iPad still has more pixels.
Not unless I messed up simple math.
But it also has a larger screen. i.e. A 55" 1080p TV and a 10" 1080p tablet may have the same resolution, but the 10" screen will still appear more clearly because the TV has to stretch the same number of pixels over a much larger area. While the iPad Pro does have a higher resolution, it's more useful to know how many pixels are in an amount of space. (just like the tablet vs TV). But in reality, both have such high resolutions for their size, there's really no point in comparing pixel count.

I love my iPad Pro 11. It was my first iPad after wanting one for years but between the lack of storage, no USB support, etc.etc.etc. I kept saying 'maybe next year'.
If Apple keeps up the improvements they made with iPadOS this thing is going to be an absolute beast soon.
As of right now the only complaints I have is the awful mouse support (it's not even worth considering, it's a bad implementation that moves inconsistently and requires a floating button) and the fact that you can't resize the 'floating' app to make it smaller. Watching a video in that is a massive waste of space, which is what I primarily use it for.
Oh and if you use remote desktop, download the 'Testflight' app and join the Microsoft profile and download the beta version of RD Client.
It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the RD client in the app store. It supports the full screen (Appstore version is 4:3), hardware acceleration, higher resolution, and video playback within the app.
I was very excited for the Surface Pro X. And then I started seeing all of the app incompatibility and that's not something I want to deal with on a $1200 device with keyboard and pen.

Just a heads up. When it comes to inputting, such as a keyboard, the Surface Pro X has a great backlit keyboard to type on. Also, writhing on the Surface Pro X feels better to write on the screen, vs the iPad Pro. I also found that when I am viewing YourTube on the iPad Pro, it limits the viewing to 1080P max. On the Surface Pro X it can go a lot higher. I also believe that even though you can play with some settings on the iPad Pro to somewhat work with a mouse, it’s not really designed for that and can not really work with a mouse and a track pad the way it should and reap the full benefits of having a true mouse and track pad support. They are both really good devices and have their pluses and minuses, but, if you want a computer for business, you will see the limitations of using the iPad Pro. Just giving my two cents. :)
The only problem I’ve found so far with the mouse is that you cant invert the scroll wheel, but you get used to the direction eventually and it will probably happen later.
Howard Aber I practice law and the iPad Pro has completely replaced my laptop. I really have not found any limitations since iPad OS came out (including trying cases with the iPad Pro). A lot of this has to do with the Apps that are available for the iPad (Microsoft’s Office Apps are great) and the fact that I use both a Brydge Keyboard and the Apple version (depending on how portable I want to be), but what really makes a difference is the display and the battery life. And while both are great devices, I simply do not see the Surface Pro X competing while its limiting apps to 32 bit versions.
To be fair, I do not believe either can be your only computer (yet), but if you want to replace a laptop, I can vouch for the iPad Pro.
Mario Alfaro I agree and happy that the iPad Pro is working out for you. Most of the time I am on my iPad Pro as well. The Apps are really fined tuned to work with the iPad Pro and work very smoothly. I purchased the Logitech Slim Folio Pro keyboard and really enjoy typing on it. Of course, it adds a lot of weight to it and limits the viewing angles. The Surface Pro X, even though it’s not completely ready with the Apps now, has a great form factor that makes it ideal for me to type on, view on and write on. I am hoping that Microsoft and the developers fine tune the software to work with the ARM 64 to make it work and to make it work smoothly. I see some Apps that work very fast and with no problems, they are the ARM 64 Apps. I realize that it will take time and patience and hope that it will be a sooner than a later fix. Because, I really love the form factor of the Surface Pro X and really believe that once the software will be fine tuned to work with that processor, I will be able to do all that I need to do in my work with it. Of course, if I was to work on drawing, then I will use my iPad Pro and Procreate. Thanks Mario and have a good one! Howie :)
Howard Aber I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s the ARM 64 compatible software that will make the biggest difference for users. I also agree that the form factor is very nice. I truly hope Microsoft continues down this road because even though Apple is good at pushing itself, there is nothing like competition to really bring out the best from both companies. And then we all win.
That UA-cam resolution limitation is due to some licencing issue between Apple & UA-cam/Google. There is a lawsuit going between the two too
I use my iPad Pro a lot more than my Surface Pro, but it's almost exclusively for casual computing purposes. When asked of either device "can it replace a laptop", the answer is down to the operating system. While the iPad Pro easily has the hardware chops to replace most laptops, the simple fact is you can do a lot more on a Surface Pro when it comes to serious productivity due to the fact that it is running a fully-fledged desktop operating system with fully-fledged desktop applications. Apple are slowly starting to introduce features that will hopefully make the iPad Pro more of a viable "pro" tier device (particularly with the introduction of iPadOS), but for the moment there is a very common misconception that the Surface Pro and the iPad Pro are competing for the same market space, when in actual fact there is not a lot of overlap.
As long as the iPad does not run a real OS, for me, Surface way better. And I believe that in 1-2y the compatibility for arm system on windows will improve significantly, because many brands are lunching those type of machines. The iPad is a great machine, no doubts, but is still a tablet...

Depends on what you’re doing. Full blown windows with tablet specs forced to run full blown programs is going to benefit a photographer/videographer? Windows forces you into a laptop or the surfacebook. For the cost it’s the best bang for your buck for a portable device

I’m watching this on a basic iPad 2019 that I just bought, but a Surface Pro3 replaced my laptop way back in 2014 and it’s still going strong, the first thing I used the Surface for was editing 36mp DSLR photos in full lightroom. I would go for the Surface pro 7 rather than this X, the move to ARM in the Surface pro line worries me though the form factor does look good.
I'm sure that FaceID is much more secure. The Surface Face Unlock only uses a single camera while the iPad uses 3D sensors.

If you only gonna use iPad Pro to do benchmark test yes iPad wins. But. iPad has no accessibility to all kinds of resources while windows system has. So as for utility windows beat every operating system. Includes macOS iOS iPad OS whatever.
For now surface pro tablet-laptop may be comparable. But sooner or later full versions of Mac apps will come to iPad OS. Windows is trying to push developers to make apps compatible for ARM based processors but those developers don’t have any necessity and also not enough consumer base for doing this revolution. While Apple has a grip over their developers and thus most probably iPads will have complete desktop experience before surface tablets does. iPad Pro is already a performance beast, we just need to wait for developers to do their work. Then there would never be a comparison between iPads and other tablets.

Huge disappointment that the X can run full Windows 10 and not be compatible with so much software. The ARM processor will kill sales unless Microsoft can get app developers to buy in. The X seems like it was released to early with even basic apps having limited availability. The X looks awesome though.
It depends. For all the software this device is aimed at - browsing, word processing, Photoshop, etc - it runs absolutely fine. And it can run 32-bit x86 apps through a light emulation layer. If you're a gamer or a power user, you won't be interested in ARM so its inability to run x64 apps won't be issue.

Idk man, I can see why people would compare these because they are meant to fill a similar role, but right now what I think Microsoft is missing is the app support on the ARM chips. If you're an early adopter, I think these ARM based chips are going to be commonplace a few years from now but right now on the Microsoft side they're taking computers and trying to make them replace tablets when Apple has it the other way around and I think right now that's the better approach. Meh, time will tell.

I would go for the iPad pro. I have used iPads extensively before never did I experience overheating issues and battery bulging with it. My Surface Pro 3 i7 256 gig was nearing its third year when its internal battery bulged and pushed outward the touch screen sides from its frame. I can't believe this happening to such an expensive premium PC tablet and I promised myself never to get another Microsoft hardware product. Better to research on the issues rather than what it can do.

SP X is not really representative for Microsoft, Microsoft have done their research in to putting raw power in a tablet and they've accomplished that more than successfully with SP 7. No fancy speakers no fancy screen or slim bezels - just decent screen, proper keyboard, full OS and good battery life - full versatility, some compromises that a windows user is extremely happy with. On the other hand ipad gives you the opposite, immersive experience with the screen, speakers and also fast at the cost of a limited OS that allows you to have great media experience with some possibility of productivity - but the keyboard, internals and OS tell you that is not made to replace your main computer on the go. SP X is an attempt in to the future and between the two worlds, that does nothing well. I have an SP 7 because I need something that runs everything (properly) and enjoy media decently.

Also, no there are no limitations for video editing. Everyone uses Luma Fusion a full professional grade editor with no compromise. It's one of the top apps in the app store. That's what pro's are using who use iPad Pro. With iPad Pro you can edit multi streams of 4K60 with 0 lag or stutter. No one using iPad Pro uses iMovie to edit video. Luma Fusion also blows away Adobe Premier. The same goes for other creation. Like art, design, illustration, and painting. Modern software blows legacy software away and blows away the experiences that you get with even the top spec i7 Surface Pro. The Pro X has no software, there never will be anything other than weak non pro software for it, and comparing these two machines really doesn't make much sense. This thing can't even dance with the entry level iPad for $399 or the iPad Air. Those would have been a better comparison.
At this price point, think the iPad is worth it but the Surface isn't. The iPad has a terrific app ecosystem while apps for the ARM platform just aren't there. The reviews so far say that if you stick to web browsing, Netflix, email and MS Office it's fine, but outside of that you'll likely run into issues. Shame coz it's gorgeous hardware. If it was priced like the Surface Pro 7 would consider it.

Much larger than the surface but I agree some apps lacking in comparison to the ipad. But the tab s6 has dex mode which allows you to convert it from a tablet into a desktop layout which is a big deal for people who want to work on their tablets

"Ipad pro is prone to bending under extreme situations..." That made me laugh so hard! Apparently simply using the device under normal circumstances is now "extreme" for Ipad. That being said, software is the whole point of any of these devices. Ipad has it in spades, while Surface X is an absolute minefield of compatibility and performance issues. As far as professional grade applications, the Surface will run full Microsoft Office poorly, and almost none of the professional grade content creation applications that previous versions would run. The Ipad however, has seen some big improvements in the last 18 months in the apps available that provide professional grade capabilities for content creation, while running an absolutely terrible version of Office. Overall though, the Ipad has fitment for purpose, and fitment for platform, while the Windows tablet is another Surface RT with some hardware polish.

Those people saying iPad Pro is a tablet trying to to computer things, you guys have never used an iPad, all of you are talking like you are Twitch streamers that need a full-fledged I/O or video editing and accessing and tweaking system files all the time lol. Almost no one of you needs stuff like that. As a media consumer / light gamer, the iPad Pro is an absolute godsend for me. And it is for most of you as well.

I think people here are missing the point. I have both a Surface device and an iPad pro. iPad is close to unusable for anything other than email and web browsing. Office suite is just ridiculously painful to use, and just unusable in a professional environment (and MS Office is what professional environment demands, period). File management is still terrible in iPad and does not even deserve comparison, again completely useless for serious (not even professional) things.
Imo, I'd probably choose the iPad provided two conditions:
A) You already have a computer (mac, pc, whatever) you can rely on if needed.
B) You are not going to use this device for serious work unless your work does not depend on Office suite (which I fail to se for most people).
I would never recommend to buy an iPad pro as an only computer as it cannot compete with a full desktop os.
As for the Surface Pro X, I have not used one, but it seems to me that it will perform well for people with usecases around web browsing, email and office suite. Yeah, Photoshop does not work but many people don't use Photoshop anyway, nor edit video. I guess if you do any of those things, SPX is also not a good option.
As a final thought, I'd probably consider living only with a SPX, not with an iPad Pro.
Ipad pro's a12x bionic chip is a monster. The only case where surface pro x beats ipad pro, is the keyboard. I would prefer a surface pro 7 with core i7 processor for productivity over both of these 2 devices.

i slightly disagree.. i was able to make a music video in 4k with no problems on my ipad pro 12.9 using Lumatouch. Lumatouch pretty much a lil brother of the final cut pro.. i haven't used my i5 imac in months now...
This comparison was really bad and obviously biased towards the iPad... Not only by silly things like saying thst there is a huge weight differencence between the two (50 grams is a huge difference? Are you sérios) but by huge omissions like the fact that the surface pro X has 2 USB c ports, a built in kickstand, a freaking mouse pad, etc. Horrible comparison man.

Surface pro x gas 2 USB c ports, it has a full desktop experience meaning you can connect 2 4k displays and have a wonderful workplace across all 3 monitors. In iPad, only few apps support at most dual screen workflow
ipad looks better has more space for display. Windows system put too much small icons and words into the screen, which makes the screen look crowded and small.
i want to buy now of these but im really on the fence, i already have a macbook and wanted to try a MS computer and this thing its also a laptop but i do love the iPad. i think im holding on a little bit more. im gonna wait until windows 11 before making a decision
Ipad is not only a tablet, is the full IOS that was build to deliver the maximum user experience for what it was made, with that ARM chip in mind.
Windows can't really compete with that.
I think every ipad users can feel the difference in OS quality and hardaware related quality, ipad is unbeatable
I'm a heavy Apple user. The iPad is a good device at $400 dollars. However, if you're spending $1000 or more, you should NEVER buy an iPad Pro. It's simply a horrendous long term investment for the price. If your choice is between a Surface "Pro" or an iPad "Pro" for the money, get a surface. It will be far more usable for far longer into its lifecycle than the equivalent iPad manufactured at the same point in time. If I'm going to spend $1000 or more, I'm investing in a proper laptop, be it a MacBook or an equivalent Windows PC; both will receive far longer software support than will any iPad. If Apple wants consumers to see iPads as viable laptop replacements, they need to offer much better long term support. As of now, the longest any iPad has seen IOS support has been the Air 2, and it likely won't get the next version of iPad OS. Conversely, if one looks at the Surface Pro 3, which was released the same year as the Air 2, it can still run the latest version of Windows 10, This is why I cannot take such comparisons as these seriously. No one with even a slight knowledge of computers would purchase ANY iPad as a laptop replacement, especially at a cost of over $1000 in order to attempt to use it as a laptop. As I said, for that money, I'd sooner buy a MacBook; but I would also consider a Surface. Consider that when Apple stops updates on the iPad, the user is left with little choice but to upgrade. Proper laptops allow the user to run windows, Mac OS or both, with the option to at least attempt to run linux. Choosing an iPad means committing to frequent upgrades. Anyone spending Laptop money on iPad "Pro" models is getting ripped off in the long term....plain and simple.

I think its about time ipad went 16:9 ratio. 4:3 is way too old just like the old TV's but i suppose it still has a few advantages!

It depends. Do you want a tablet that is a tablet or do you want a computer that also tries to be a great tablet?
Depends. I would like to see more mouse functionalities added to future iOS versions. Right now, you can't use the mouse for iOS to right click stuff. It is only an accessibility option for those who have issues using touch. A real, macOS-like file manager would be the game changer for me.
GamingWiffJohn don't forget that the Surface is using an ARM chip... it's not as easy to use every software you can use on a normal "computer". The iPad really is much better in every way because Windows is not optimized for ARM chips when it comes to third party software.
I think the surface is far more convenient with the improved keyboard with a the pen holder, the built in stand, and the magnetic charger with 2 USB C ports

The keyboard is nota big argument itself because you have to buy it seperatly - just like the iPad keyboard.
You never mention or test the apple pencil with the iPad, but you do test the surface pen. Not sure how anyone can make a good decision from this.
have both. Pencil is better for art. For taking notes and so on they're both good.

GamingWiffJohn you must have not watched many surface x reviews? It’s a huge disappointment and will continue to be unto software developers create apps for the arm processor. The surface x was trying to be an iPad but without a good App Store. I’m hoping the next Surface pro 8 takes on the shape of the x but with real internals.
Changed surface pro x is nomore a real PC yeah its way better a PC than iPad but not a laptop replacement anymore when they switched to ARM
@@trentgilliam5192 Later I did watch more of them and I agree with you! I wonder why some popular apps like from Adobe don't work on the new Surface. Is it because of software not being developed far enough or is it because Microsoft outright blocks certain 'heavy' apps on purpose due to terrible performance? The surface X isn't ready for the market yet. I am happy that Microsoft managed to run full windows 10 on an ARM SoC, but they still have their ways to go!
@@anandsuralkar2947 you are right. I didn't know beforehand about the major application limitation due to the ARM SoC instead of an traditional x86 CPU in the new Surface Pro X. Software just doesn't seem ready for prime time!

In terms of hardware and performance iPad is definitely better. But the OS really just doesn't quite cut it.

As an engineering student using ipad pro for one year
Its not that good, it lacks a lot of support, you cant use a proper version of Autocad or solidworks i don't recommend it for any engineering uses.
Why didn’t you think before buying lmao. For engineering purpose you need to buy a beast pc with an good GPU and a great processor, not a tablet. That’s just common sense.

No it's not common sense, and no need for a beast pc to use autocad or solidworks my friend has a tablet ( microsoft surface pro 4 ) and it works perfectly, its cheaper and better than the ipad pro.
bought a ipad pro because windows sucks in tablet mode. had a surface 4 and touchscreen is a pain in x86 programms.
with all of those specs, surface cant run full pc software properly and does not have tablet optimized apps....
it can run a lot of it, just not all of it. I wish they hadn't called it a Pro. It can run what 95% of people need (as can the iPad Pro) but the "pro" applications (like Premiere Pro) are lacking in for both the SPX and iPad Pro. That's where serious computers like Surface Pros, Surface Books, XPSes, and Macbook Pros come in.
I'd also lob the same criticism at Apple for naming everything "pro."
Sorry but the surface pro sucks. The surface laptop and surface book are way better alternatives and actually function as a laptop better. If you want a tablet, get an iPad Air or iPad Pro

Trust me, you can do almost everything you can do on the Surface Pro with countless productivity and professional apps on the App Store (unless yousre gaming).
Never liked no ever purchased anything apple, yet I am beyond super impressed with this 3rd gen 12.9 inch pro. There is practically nothing on the android side that comes close.

Well one is the best tablet on the market by far, that con do many computer things. The other one is a computer that can barely do tablet things or computer things lmao
Only Netflix is better on the iPad Pro.. other than that on UA-cam it only goes up to 1080p so if you don’t have Netflix you’re kinda screwed

No doubt the new ipad is an incredible piece of kit, but unless you a creative what’s the point if iOS are so limited in what you can run. You may as well stick to the older iPad Pro 17 to do your browsing/emails or if you are a power user and need a tablet go with the surface. Although I prefer macOS at least with windows on surface you are not limited to what you can run. I hope Apple realises this but sigh I don’t think they will ever want to eat into their MacBook market.
