Great review. I just got my first boonie and I love it. I have the Striker Gen.3 Boonie from UF Pro. Not only is there mesh in the front and back for airflow, but there is a pocket over the head that holds a mesh spacer to allow the air to over the top of your head for better cooling. Also the crown shape from above is a rounded rectangle that makes it look more stylish than the common round or oval shape.
I love the UF Pro hat. I covered that in the first piece I made on boonies last year. I've just picked up the newer version too. I'll make some comparison content soon
I have 3 favorite types of hats. Beanies, boonies, and trapper hats. Boonie for warm weather, beanie for cool weather, beanie + trapper for snow storms.
I do like a trapper style hat. My Grand pop had one on the farm for cold Welsh mountain winters. I run molten hot most of the time so a beanie is usually OK for me. Saying that though our winters don't get too close. It's rare it gets below -5
I discovered some unexpected usage for the brim webbing (at least, unexpected to me). That is ... Flies tend to go for your ears, eyes and mouth. When I was (or am) walking in densely populated fly areas I stick a few small branches in the brim webbing surrounding my head (to be clear: with the root sticking in the webbing and the leaves end pointing downwards about 15 to 20 cm fanning outwards in front of my face, side and back). I discovered when walking the moving branches keeps the flies away from my head and upper torso. Hate flies. Love this solution. Try it yourself.
Been trying to figure out if SA actually made good bucket hats. I love all their other stuff so I'm not sure why I didn't just buy the hat. Love the review
You are truly a man who "Wears many hats" .😉👍 Thanks for the multiple review/display. 👍 FYI, I'm still using my ancient Vietnam Tiger Stripe boony. Getting a might worn in places, but that just lends it character. 😁
One step ahead of you my friend. I covered that beauty in my first piece of content last year - ua-cam.com/video/uU9aXSYO7X4/v-deo.html I absolutely love that hat. Thank you for watching, I hope you have an awesome week 🤙
Have you checked out the Helikon-Tex Bushcraft Line, Bushcraft Satchel? I have resisted this bag because I was worried that is was a little "purse like" and a bit to METRO for Montana, but I got one and with a fixed blade and a hatchet in the end I don't get a second look in the woods. I have also used the outer passthrough for a small trypod. I became interested in their large satchel/messenger bag for travel as it holds my computer and just about everything else, and that brought me down the road to try this one out. Check it out.
Hi Richard. Hope you're well. Yes, absolutely love that bushcraft satchel and it's appeared in lots of my content. I use it for everyday use, travelling and walks out in the Moorlands. I have some content coming up comparing the haversack and the satchel 👍
Thanks for the heads up on that one. I'll add it to my list. I've genuinely been so happy with this content. 1. as it's clear so many people love this style of hat, 2. because there's been so many cool suggestions like this. There will definitely be a third piece of content on these awesome hats. Thanks again
@@MoorlanderEDC yeah they are a fantastic hat design. I use mine for hunting, fishing and when I am out camping in the woods, it’s brilliant. I think I prefer the bush style hat because of the short brim and you can fold it up into a sort of cow boy style hat as well. But yeah the Solo bush hat is a good one.
I have a good collection of boonie hats. But I have ended liking the 5.11 boonie hat the most. I bought most of their colours. My latest one was in Multicam black, took me ages to find one. My next would be to find a Triple Aught Design (Tad) boonie hat in MCB, but they have stopped making it.
I bought some cheap chinese ones off Ebay which had snaps on the sides so you can fold the brim up so it looks kind of more like a stetson. I loved that feature and none of the better quality name brand ones I've looked at have that.
I know the type you mean. I'm not a fan of those hats however I'll definitely look at some for some more content like this. How doesn't love testing out more hats 😊
I think this Boonie hat content has legs. Sierra 313 will definitely be in the next follow up piece of content. There's been a few suggestion that look really nice. A wise man once said "You can never have too many hats... and plate carriers" 😄
The Dropzone supplies MTP boonie is worth a look. A very “old school” military hat with a nice short brim and top. Takes me back to when we all had them tailored for Iraq, much to the dismay of the camp RSM!!
@@MoorlanderEDC no probs! Mine arrived today, it has an NSN (NATO stock number) inside so I assume they bought a bulk load of issued “hat floppy” and re-trimmed the brim and top. I’m super happy with it!!
I have to admit I hadn't heard about TRC until somebody else mentioned it here. I've just ordered a DNC boonie from them. Will defo be in the next piece of content on boonie hats
@@MoorlanderEDC I was looking for laser cut zipper pulls and found them by chance. 😇 The boonie is the one i use the most, because it's light and the net top cools down your head pretty well. The inner band in orange is a nice touch, it's never wrong to have something like that just in case. 😎
I'll add that to the list for the next follow up. Both this and the previous one I've made have definitely shown there's a lot of love for these style hats
Secretly, that's why I keep making boonie content for comments like this. I'll get one and add it to the next piece 😂 thanks for the heads up 🤙

I have a mil-tec one but ... I have a bigger head that I thought so the L size is a lil bit too small for me :) I think I will go for the Särmä one in XL (when it will be in stock again)
Mrs Moorlanders reluctance for you to wear your Boonie hats out in public, is reminiscent of Mrs CrewBear's opinion of my collection of Tilley Endurables L5 hats that I seem to be constantly wearing when I'm out-of-doors. It's can be fun teasing the "Boss," isn't it? LOL
It's more fun that we should discuss on a public forum like this. There are eyes everywhere 😉 I feel like I need to work on my Tilley game. I'll pick on up next

Agree. I have tried some wool felt and I keep going back to the boonie. I have a trapper and beanie.

I loved your first vid on boonie hats, watched a few times
It's good to see you back in action.
From California....
Happy to hear you enjoyed the content my friend. All the best from across the Pond

Solo bookie/bush hats from the camouflage store are good ones. I have had mine for about three months now and I love it.

I wear a GI boonie 7-8 months out of the year, most of the times my od green
Mate, I've just gone 'the way of the moorlander' up top last week, and finally decided it's time for a boonie hat. Talk about serendipity.
The way of the Moorlander. I love the sound of that. You definitely need to make sure you look after the top of your head then 🤙

I so like TAD Gear stuff. Nor cheap but definitely great quality
The significant other for some strange reason likes my Tiger stripe short brim, but all others get the frowny face.
They're strange creatures and we should never assume we fully understand how their brain works 😂

Where do you get your Boonie Cap ?
I recently got one off Amazon and was NOT happy.
I get them either from Amazon, Military 1st or directly from the manufacturers. Is there one in particular you're after?
Platatac GBH-R, UF Pro and Crye Precision boonie next review and compared to these?
Will do my friend, I'll add them to the list... although, I did test out the UF Pro boonie in my previous boonie content. Love that hat
Arktis also have many boonie hats
Yes, I have one too. I covered my other hats in my first piece of boonie content 🤣 I own way too many boonies
@@MoorlanderEDC you can never have too many trying now not to order one of those CARCAJOU sniper hats.
@@pj4433 if you need an excuse tell whoever I made you buy one. I've got your back brother 🤜🤛
I have crossed over to the Moorlander: sub'd.

Hi, yes, love that boonie. That one featured in my first piece of content on Boonies - ua-cam.com/video/uU9aXSYO7X4/v-deo.htmlsi=-vyvt6XF9wdlMWvu

The Sarma one is really nice. Varusteleka are going from strength to strength with their products
There's a certain way to wearing a Boonie hat in the British Military 👍🇬🇧
I've watched a few ex-squaddies explaining how to do it. I can't imagine it offered any protection on the back of your head/neck 😂
