I love TT! My daughter is homeschooling for the first time ever. Special needs, is in 5th grade and using level 5. She uses the physical book while on the website. She prefers that option and is thriving. It's a great program.
Thanks for sharing this!!! We use and LOVE TT. I switched to MB this year for all other subjects...and was so torn about switching math. I love MB, but TT has been a great fit so I didn't want to change it. Your comment, "If it ain't broke don't fix it," is so true and a good reminder!
As a middle school math coach, I emphasize mental math and daily mental math practice routines with my students, whom I teach individually through zoom sessions. I believe that there are ways to progressively strengthen the mental visualization of numbers and their basic mathematical operations, using progressive daily practice. US schools are fighting a culture of distraction and frivolity, and also many methods used in the U.S. have too many topics covered without any skill building or depth. Engagement is crucial, as there is no actual learning without it.
Its worth noting that teaching textbooks DOES still offer the 2.0 disk and book sets for those who have limited or sketchy internet or just like being able to hold the curriculum (and not have to constantly pay a subscription fee) same content but the 3.0 has updated some parental controls and doesn't come with the textbook.
I have a daughter who is using MUS. She never uses the blocks. She once in a while uses the videos. It only takes her like 5 minutes to finish a worksheet. My only thing with MUS is it doesn’t cover time and money as thoroughly as I would like. However, I love the fact that we don’t have to waste time if she gets the concept we can simply move on.
I didn't like that either. The block concept would be fantastic for hands on and visual learners, my kids just didn't take to it as well as TT. Every kid is different, though. They are both solid programs!
I am adult that has dyscalculia. So the only way that I will make progress in math. Is milt sensory approach. I do have all math facts memorized. Can make change with no problem. Don’t have difficulty following recipe. If you asked to subtract fractions on paper. That would be problem. Doing with recipe. With measuring cups no problem. This will finally fix area in school that I struggled so much with.
I did math u see for all of my elementary math and then switched to teaching textbooks for pre algebra and I am trying to finish algebra one still and it’s taken me almost 4 years to try to finish both. I hate teaching textbooks. I used to love math but then I got teaching textbooks and I hate it now. I’m going back to math u see this year for geometry
My daughter is grade 3 and I am torn between these two, my husband thinks she is too old for math you see, what would you say from your experience? Thank you
Hi, I’m not sure if you’ll see my comment but I wanted to ask what you didn’t like about teaching text books. My fourth grader struggles to understand some math concepts and I’m researching different programs after using and not liking a similar online program called ctc math.
We did only Math U See by now (I have third and a fourth graders), and right now looking into teaching textbooks because of the same reasons delta got way to boring and hard with the same division for her. I loved it though and the girls did too, but at this point the fourth graders got stuck and I need to do something about it ASAP.
Thank you for this video. This is our first year homeschooling. Son is going into 4th grade. I went with Math mammoth and when doing the first TWO lessons (which were review on addition and subtraction) I realized my child was struggling. I though, “Oh my! How did I not know this?” He always got an “A” in his report cards and never came home with math homework. It’s only our 2nd week, but I feel as though I don’t want him to struggle with this math if he hasn’t fully grasped the basics. I was thinking of switching to TT or MUS...so glad I found this video. We live in NC too and thinking of the EOY testing freaks me out now that “teaching falls on me.” Im wondering which level I should start my 4th. Do they have placement tests? Thank you!
Go on teachingtextbooks.com scroll down on grade your interested in and down towards bottom there is a placement test...theres also free samples each grade you can look at
Thank you! This was very helpful! I'm debating between these two for my 9, 12 and 14 year old for next year. We will be doing Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 for the older 2. It sounds like the biggest issue you had with MathUSee was that it focuses on one concept at a time, rather than a broader coverage of the basics like TT does. It sounds like your kids are younger but do you have an opinion (or have feedback from someone who has used the higher level math for older kids) if MathUSee has this same drawback or maybe it would actually be helpful for Algebra??
Thank you for the video. We are unhappy with our public school not re-opening and have just decided to homeschool because e-learning was a disaster last spring and I can't support that again. It sounds like math u see would be great for our youngest entering 2nd (very hands on) but maybe not so much for our oldest entering 5th (very advanced academically. ) Do you recommend using 2 different curriculums for a brand new homeschool family? That seems logistically tough but I want to make this as successful as possible. Thanks!!
How would I order the Abeka curriculum but use the Math Teaching textbooks. I am interested in Abeka (at our own pace so I think that’s considered unaccredited) but use the Math from Teaching textbooks.
My kids begged me not to switch their math, so I honored that choice. If it ain't broke, don't fix it lol! They both have solid A's, so at tis point switching them wold be detrimental for them.
I have heard so much about TT but really struggle with the fact that it is all on computer and there is no physical working out of problems. How have you felt about that.
Hi, I have a daughter on TT level 5, she works out the problems either on scrap paper or there’s a scratch pad option on the PC. There are 0 manipulatives if that’s what you meant by “working out problems”? I have another child that is slow to grasp math concepts and looks to be a hands-on learner (hard to tell bc even with Ms she needs constant reinforcement), thinking about MUS.
I have the absolute stupidest question for you if you don't mind answering. What would you call your style of eye makeup? I know absolutely 0 about makeup, but was given some basic eye makeup as a gift. I don't even know how to start to learn. But I just found this video while looking for math curriculum info, and found myself thinking "I actually like her makeup. That looks doable and natural." I know loads of tutorials exist, but I don't know what to call this to search for it. Is there a name for it?
Oh thank you ☺️❤️ I’m not sure what I’d call it, it’s the same routine I’ve been doing since college (20+ years lol). Maybe “minimal”? I keep it simple and try to use paraban free products.
If you buy the online subscription you can do the lesson on the computer or print out the lesson text and the worksheets for that lesson. You can even access this feature while on the 15 free lessons trial.
@@mandy-maltz if we plan on teaching textbooks is it a good investment to get math u see for just that 1 grade? I hear there's a lot of manipulative to buy.

Fantastic info! Thank you! Since TT starts in 3rd grade I will also try Math u see for my younger kids

Great video! Thank you! I'm trying to find an independent math curriculum and this was very helpful.
Thank. you for this review. The new math u see books have collective review and enrichment at the end of each lesson.

I wish they had Math U See when I was a kid. I am a total hands on learner. I need things to be interactive. Thanks for the video Mandy. God bless!

Those are 2 of our favorite math programs too.

My middle daughter that is in 2nd grade struggles with Math . I purchased the first "life of fred " , and I am in hopes that it helps

Go for it! I’m using Masterbooks for Language, The Spelling you See, and The Good and Beautiful for writing.....
Same here! Good question!
What is a great way to see what kind of learner your child is? Is there a website or book you can reccomended? Thank you! ❤️

Hey there! What would you recommend for first grade? Teaching Textbooks only has Math 3 and up.
Great video as usual! Can I ask why you chose not use Masterbooks for Math? I know how much you love their other curriculum!

Does the cd version grade the work as well?
I was wondering if the math is like the common core in public school?
Does teaching textbooks come with any worksheets so my son can do some pencil to paper
You can call them and ask all your questions and also they have free trial for 15 lessons so you can actually see if you guys like it
If you buy the online subscription you can do the lesson on the computer or print out the lesson text and the worksheets for that lesson. You can even access this feature while on the 15 free lessons trial.
The online app doesnt work
You used math you see for 1st grade?
Yes :)

Is it common core?
i believe she said in the video TT is not CC.
