So beautiful, David Childs is my hero, role model, and you inspire me to keep going. Your music inspired and saved me from myself. Thank you David Childs
about to play my euphonium in anger again, after 29 years, in a concert band reunion. Glad I still have my Besson 4 valve circa 1977! Great sounding horn.
I think without a question the best part of this song is his killer vibrato. Just listen to how ridiculously controlled it is as he's holding that last note.
Megan's Pet Care You may not have seen, but David Child's Euphonium has a 4th piston valve on the side. It's also a Euphonium due to its conical bore, meaning the inner tubing gradually and consistently increases in width from beginning to bell. The baritone is the complete opposite, as its cylindrical bore stays consistent in width until it nears the bell and THEN expands. Also, the Euphonium has a much nicer, calm, mellow sound that a baritone may have trouble achieving. Basically, Euphonium is boss. BABY TUBA FOREVER!!!!
Oh so wrong. All brass band instruments are conical bore (except the trombone of course). Baritone is the same as a euphonium, but with a smaller bore throughout it's length. Baritone is more versatile and tends to get ensemble parts with lots of different sections of the band whereas euphonium is more likely to play with the other low pitch instruments.
It makes my heart feel soft and comfortable! What a great sound, it's more than lovely... It can't be better sound than this, best wind instrument ever!
Parabens pela forma solene que se toca esse instrumento, indiscutivelmente um som muito maravilhoso e agradável. Nos transmite muita PAZ. Somos seus fãs............................ Americana/SP Brazil
i play horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium, baritone, clarinet, saxophone, and oboe. (horn is my main instrument) I'm only 12 now, and this man is my idle, my gleaming golden statue to look up to when im down, and he gives me hope for my future as a musician

He is fantastic, he's very graceful and has a beautiful tone. But the BEST? I don't think there is a "the BEST" He is definitely one of my idols and I strive to play like him.
Learnt this piece by listening to it. Such a beautiful accompaniment between the Euphonium and Piano. Just to say it cause of previous comments, I play on a Meinl Weston, that is the best Euph I've played on.
Great round sound. Note the nice use of the tuning trigger on the final top C to flatten it. Besson Prestige Euph's are often sharp on top C's and so needs a bit of triggering. :-)
There were 2 things that got me back into playing the Euphonium after I got bored of it, one was marching band, the other was listening to David Childs play Gabriel's Oboe, he is easily one of the best musicians I know and deffinitly one of the reasons I love the Euphonium as much as I do
listening to what good euphonium players sound like . . . and longtones longtones longtones and more longtones It takes a while before you start to develop a (or your) characteristic tone. by simply inquiring about it, you doing the right thing.
Tubaguy, it depends how you read the music. Technically, NO instruments are transposing insruments, it's just how your interpret the notes on the page. Euphonium can be read in treble or bass clef. Bass clef is read in C - not transposing. Treble clef is read in Bb - and therefore is transposing.
@fallenjedi1977 I wouldn't say it was to loud, as its a video the mic is picking up the sound equally from David and the pianist, if David was to stand the other side of the piano the sound wouldn't be aimed at the mic and the pianist would be almost unheard. If that made sense?
O it took me a while too, it's really easy if you practice the siren. A gliss from with just a distance of a fifth or sixth, with just the mpiece. THEN you do the exact same thing through the horn, you'll get up to higher registers EASILY. just don't interupt your airstream!!
First thing to improve tone is improve breathing. The book called Breathing Gym from sam Pilafian and Pat sheridan is a good start. Second intonation very important play a lot with tuner and listen while your playing with others forget the tuner then. but when you are studying play with tuner. other tips are: Fingering hand relaxed but under control, hold the bell of the instrument slightly forward, play with wet lips, hold the lips together, lips forward like kissing, and whistle is also import
he started the note on the correct pitch. it was only at the very end of the note that he went like 1/20th bit flat. mabie it was intentional? idk, im still in highschool so i dont know too much
i believe he normally plays a york eminence euphonium. it's up there like u said between 5-7k not totally sure. I've seen him in videos play a besson prestige also. he could be playing that one on this video. not completely sure.

He is realy an amazing player, but I have also a good sound (don't know if its this good either) but my teacher is surprised about my sound because he never heard such a sound by one of his pupils before (i'm 17 years old). There is one little problem: my high notes haven't a good sound yet :) PS: sorry for my bad english
Euphoniumnis such an underrated instrument. Just beautiful. 💖

It makes my heart feel soft and comfortable! What a great sound, it's more than lovely... It can't be better sound than this, best wind instrument ever!
Its not a wind instrument. Its brass. But agree with your point. Its beautiful
Brass instruments are wind instruments. There are three family of instruments wind, string, and percussion.
Umm no there is strings brass woodwind and percussion

What a gorgeous tone.
It's the epitome of Euphonium playing
it's calming me down right now!
Legendary euphonium player
You're both right, it's a concert pitch B flat, but on a transposing instrument such as the euphonium, it's a C. And yes, what a gorgeous sound!
the best euphonium player i have ever seen
Play euphonium and I will never get there your feet face you and others in the euphonium serves me great inspiration
Pretty! He made me cry!

Davis Childs, Brian Bowman, Stephean Mead, Dave Werden, asian guy. all are gods at the euphonium. they should be on Mt. Rushmore
Fantastic intonation
He used to play York. He's now an Besson artist exclusively.
Wow 😲😢
