"All That Breathes": Film Follows Brothers in Delhi Who Have Saved 25,000 Birds from Air Pollution

  • We speak with filmmaker Shaunak Sen about his Oscar-nominated documentary, "All That Breathes," which follows two self-taught brothers who rescue black kite birds suffering from air pollution in New Delhi. The brothers, Nadeem and Saud, have saved about 25,000 black kites from the dirty air in India's capital over the last 15 years. "When you live in the city of Delhi, you're almost always preoccupied with the air," says Sen, who explains why he centered the film on the brothers and purposely stayed away from obvious environmental and political messages. "The idea is to open the conversation and not close it," he says. "All That Breathes" became the only film ever to win the best documentary prize at both the Sundance and Cannes film festivals last year.

There is an interestingly philosophical manga that became an interestingly philosophical anime titled _Fullmetal Alchemist_. One of the primary components of the story is the first law of equivalent exchange. To obtain something, humanity must first sacrifice something of equal value. It's a basic premise in physics as well. You cannot create something from nothing. Energy is constant. So, for 9 billion people to live, we exchange great quantities of life energy elsewhere.
You are blessed to be alive. You are a gift to the universe. You are a wonder of all your ancestral lineage. All that they suffered, all that they survived, was so that you would grace this earth, that you, possibly, would leave an indelible mark, one that inspires, motivates, and ushers in something better for future generations. Do you lament the death of the world ignoring that it also thrives, or do you seize your day, do you burn bright and wage a relentless assault against your own annihilation?
If we are to enjoy all of the wonders of our existence, the equivalent exchange is in no small part the environment. India bears the second largest population in the world. Those billion people, and more, deserve all of the opportunity the rest of us round the world enjoy. What is at stake? What is sacrificed so that they, or someone amongst them, might rise to greatness? What are you willing to sacrifice, if not for some distant stranger, or an animal in their midst, for your own offspring, or a person closely related so that they might achieve what so many others failed to achieve?
Our paths must be tempered by moderation, restraint, and sacrifice. We must be humble or else be humiliated. We enjoy so much in this dawning technocracy and because of it, the unwitting sacrifices we make are kites over Deli, whales in the sea, the rain forests of the Amazon, children mining lithium in Africa, all with either dumb apathy, staring narcissisticly at ourselves on social media, or passionately at the turning wheels of industry and invention, desperately seeking an answer to impending doom and oblivion. Certainly, humanity's mortality is at stake, so what are we able to sacrifice without foolishly extinguishing ourselves in the process?

Also, Amy, worth while remembering that the countryside is a better representation of what earth is actually like. City living is great for removing you from the cycle of life, and giving you a false sense of separation. We are one, sister. You have compassion and I see you. X

Please be aware that 5G test-bursts from those antennas are the cause of birds falling from the sky too, apart from air pollution.
When we, in The Netherlands, noticed 100's of birds falling and dying on the ground, in a park, we found out that an antenna with a 5G test-burst was activated at that same moment, nearby that park.
In the Northern part of our country, where cattle farms are frequent, the same 5G activation caused cows to go wild, throwing themselves against the wall of the stable, wide eyed and mooing, totally in a panic.
Farmers were appalled by it, never had they seen this behavior in their cows before. Also, that same day, a 5G activation test-burst was performed in that area.

Whom Can We Trust If No One Is Trustworthy?
One of my favorite quips from Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is when Tom is defined as “a glittering hero…the pet of the old, the envy of the young,” and there were “some that believed that he would be President, yet, if he escaped hanging.” With these few words, Twain captured the essence of leadership in our world. Those who get to the top are the fiercest, most determined, and most ruthless. Today, the latter quality has become so intense that we can no longer believe our leaders, and certainly not trust them to have our best interest in mind.
I am not accusing any leader in particular, or even leaders as a whole. It is simply that in an egoistic world, where people vie to topple one another on their way to the top, the one at the top is clearly the one who trampled over and knocked down more people than anyone else. Concisely, to get to the top in an egoistic world you have to be the biggest egoist.
So how do we know whom to trust? We don’t know and we cannot know. All we know is that we are in the dark.
In a culture of unhinged selfishness, any conspiracy theory seems reasonable, while truth is nowhere to be found. When every person who says or writes something is trying to promote some hidden agenda, you have no way of knowing who is right, what really happened, or if anything happened at all.
The only way to get some clarity in the news and goodwill from our leaders is to say “Enough!” to our current system and build something entirely independent. The guiding principle of such a system should be “information only,” no commentary. Commentary means that information has already been skewed. Information means saying only what happened, as much as possible, not why, and not who is to blame and who we should praise.
Concurrently, we must begin a comprehensive process of self-teaching. We have to know not only what is happening, but why we skew and distort everything. In other words, we have to know about human nature and how it inherently presents matters according to its own subjective view, which caters to one’s own interest. To “clear” ourselves from that deformity, we must learn how to rise above our personal interest and develop an equally favorable attitude toward others. This is our only guarantee that our interpretation of things will be even and correct.
Once we achieve such an attitude, we will discover that the bad things we see in our world reflect our own, internal wickedness. Our ill-will toward others creates a world where ill-will governs, and so the world is filled with wickedness and cruelty. Therefore, all we need in order to create positive leadership-and to generally eliminate ill-will from the world-is to generate goodwill within us. When we nurture goodwill toward others, we will fill the world with goodwill. As a result, the world will fill with kindness and compassion. By changing ourselves, we will create a world that is opposite from the world we have created through our desires to govern, patronize, and often destroy other people.

Absolutely, and it's so important to remember that we change the world one moment at a time, when we change ourselves. We do have to hold our leaders accountable whenever possible. But finger-pointing, as in the current mainstream environment, rarely works. Change and caring begins at home.

Does microwave radiation effect the flying patterns of all animals... Wifi or even the microwave that you cook ur food, microwaves from wifi and cell phone towers cook your birds... What is the correlation of microwave pollution, from the 1999 FCC handbook of microwave radiation... Is it possible the birds are getting cooked from the inside out. The navy cooked the look out on the lookout tower of a boat, it wasn't until the invention of the magnetron that we were able to see the U-boats. Thus the microwave was invented.

Interesting and important point. Waves from regular home ovens don't travel very far. But, the cumulative effect of increasingly unbroken coverage of cell and other radiation, should be studied. Increasing 4G, 5G coverage, billions of indoor and outdoor smart devices, increasingly strong wifi in order to extend coverage even to parks and natural areas. Human and wildlife bodies never get a break. At a minimum, what's all this electronic impact doing to inflammatory processes in the body and brain.

We have had technology to get many many more miles per gallon- for years! But this was suppressed. The greatest way to create a cleaner and more equitable community- is to uplift people out of poverty. Think WIN WIN policies… not might is right policy. The push to green is mowing down a huge percentage of the worlds population- those who simply want to gain a better quality of life. Stop the narrow focus on limited technology… also shift to backing down on the 70,000 chemicals- including drugs that really do not create a better quality of life- but actually create a large, dangerous deficits! At the end of the day it is the poor and working class that bare the backbreaking cost burden…with more and more whose very lives are at risk….while the rich and powerful play their virtuosity game!
