Hi guys, welcome to my channel! My name is Jason Leung, I am a 4th Dan in Shotokan Karate with over 20 years of experience. In today's karate lesson we are learning all 3 Tekki Kata of Shotokan Karate. The main feature technique of this kata is Kiba Dachi, otherwise known as horse stance.
It is imperative that one displays strong hip power, due to the fact that this kata is only performed moving laterally in one stance.

Tekki Shodan is by far my favorite kata. Short, sweet, and powerful.
Makes me miss training even more. Attained nidan before life's challenges put me on another course. Now I'm in a town with no real Japanese karate-do. I can at least watch the videos and brush the dust off my techniques. Thank you

I started my Martial Arts life 51 years ago in Shotokan Karate, these were my favorites. Great memories, I've moved on to Aki Jiu-jitsu and remained there to this date. I love this video 🥋⛩🥋

As a 3rd kyu brown-belt sitting bored at home, I decided to learn a new kata and this is the first time I have seen Tekki Nidan and Tekki Sandan.This video was really helpful for me as I am still perfecting my Tekki Shodan. Goju practicioner here: excellent tutorial, Sensei! Even though, these kata are not included in Goju, I always loved the Tekki kata series for their practicality and efficiency against multiple opponents, and your explanation is most helpful.

I'm with you as an Uechi guy. I trained long ago in Ryu Te Okinawan Kempo (from Taika Oyata), and I miss the Naihanchi/Tekki kata. I'm thinking of relearning it just for my self study. I mean, Motobu Choki pretty much only did Naihanchi, and is considered one of the greatest karate fighters in history.
@@waaagh3203 Indeed, Motobu Choki was a Karate legend, not to mention his encounter with Gichin Funakoshi. It is a benefit to be open-minded about various Karate and Kempo / Kenpo styles.

Goju doesn't have it by its original name ? Naihanchi shodan ?
The cool thing about these Kata is that they don't even need that much space. I know you can practice other katas without much movement just the principal techniques. However I'm glad to have found these 3 katas. They will be perfect for my at home practice when I'm not at the Dojo. I'll try to learn today Tekki Shodan 😆

I did Jka for about 15yrs and where I live we are a regional town & don’t have access to any karate Dojos. I miss it terribly so this is how I get my fix. I got my 1st Dan Black belt. Thank you for the videos.

Okay kudos! Are you part of SKA? This is the way Oshima and Funakoshi taught it.
The foot placement is on point. His shoulders are low- has to be from SKA under Oshima. This is OG karate from Funakoshi taught to Oshima.

the secret for your karate to improve, is to adapt.
dont be too much of a sports/shiai kumite guy, but also adapt your karate style to more realistic and efficient situations, and dont be afraid to include another martial arts techniques to improve your karate. Always training hard and studying the whole art.
