    I love Harleys and sports bikes. They are both very different and both incredibly cool in their own way.

    One thing that my instructor told me that stuck was to take every opportunity to try different bikes even those in a category you don't think you'll like. I tried a dual sport without having any experience on dirt bikes or any interest in dual sports and loved it.
    It's a good experience to get out of your comfort zone.

      Try a thing you haven't done three times.
      Once, to get over the fear of doing it.
      Twice, to learn how to do it.
      And a third time to figure out whether you like it or not.

    Your riding ability on the Harley was much improved over the shadow 400.. I love my sport bikes.. and will always have one in the stable - but i also have to have a cruiser and an adventure bike and a few dirt bikes and other road bikes.. I would rather have a few cheap bikes of different types than one nice bike.. Maybe you should consider adding one of those road couches to your collection! Great videos!

    I've ridden them all, I currently ride a Harley dresser and my last sport bike was an 03 CBR954RR. They each are great for their intended purpose. People criticizing others because they chose differently shows a lot of insecurity. I mean for a bike to ride thru the hills or to the beach on the weekend, maybe to work, get what you want and stop doubting your choice.

    It's funny that people keep comparing their sportsbike to a Harley, it's like comparing the taste between a potato and strawberry and which one is much bitter. Funny comments though, keep it coming haha!

    • @themaxrider
      @themaxrider 7 років тому

      It's not like that at all. Comfort is proven by what wins the endurance events such as the "Iron Butt" which is a distance not a speed competition!
      The harley corp has done an expert job at pushing the look of a bike over actual function!
      Don't be fooled and throw away everything that makes riding exciting and safe by choosing a harley over anything else!
      I too bought into the lie, and since bought a Super Duke and other bikes before that which are 10 times the bike a harley anything is!
      Stay safe people!

    • @themaxrider
      @themaxrider 7 років тому +2

      That is a good analogy. Comparing a motorcycle to a skid steer is exactly describing a harley to other real motorcycles!

      Anonymous Katsudon. I'm with you, I've had both and they are totally different, but their again their built to do total different things. For those that don't agree, try riding one the same way you would ride the other. Many miles on the sport bike, you'll think your John Wayne, throw a cruser into a bend, you'll think your fuckin stupid.

    I have both a Harley and an S1000rr, and enjoy them both for their different reason. The Harley is great for for chillin' out on but is difficult to turn (long rake). The sports bike is a really easy bike to ride (easier to make progress and turn). But the looks and sound of the Harley are just stunning.

    Dude, I think training at any riding level is great. If you have been riding for two years or 50 its always great to get back to basics with a skills booster course or a more advanced course. Ton of fun to work on the fundamentals and increase your skill. BTW, when I had my Honda Shadow 1100, it always surprised me when I scraped the pegs. Now, on the Ninja 300, I only get surprised if I scrape a toe. Nice video man.

      he means that at 30mph on a sportbike, you CAN countersteer. 30mph is "still low speed.
      however on most big cruisers, you CANNOT countersteer at 30mph.

    • @BerryTheBnnuy
      @BerryTheBnnuy 7 років тому +1

      Alec, I've never met a bike that you don't countersteer at speeds over 30mph... I own two cruisers. Well... one of them is not a cruiser in the traditional sense, but steering geometry wise, it is a cruiser.
      In fact, every cruiser I've ever ridden, you counter steer once you past 15-20mph. That said, the more raked out the front end is, the more floppy the bike is at low speeds, but floppy doesn't mean you don't countersteer.

    Did the same thing when I was 16, tried a friends GSXR 750 and he jumped on my Sportster. I went and got a GSXR 1000 the next week and sold my sportster. Today, I have a Aprilia RSV4, BMW HP 4, Blacked out 2018 Breakout CVO SE, KTM 450 SX and Yammy YZF 250.. Love both now more then ever but at the time, it was all about the thrill and it lasted years until I realized that it was also fun to slow down and cruise. Best of both worlds. Started on MotoX bikes and still rip on those to this day.

    Your scraping the low side pedal, just an alarm to say you are closing into max lean. You could still take the road king another 15 degrees before the floor board is folded. Some HD have floor boards that hang way out and thus a high center turn radius. But yes a sport bike is made to track, and a HD FSHRC (Road King Classic) is made to tour, but still fun to ride. Two wheels down my friend👈

    I am not a bike rider but after seeing all this hate between sport and cruising motor bikes I decided to ask a couple people I know and the guy that has a cruiser said roughly something like: "its like comparing a katana to a big battle axe. The katana(sportbike) is light, swift, and small but the battle axe(cruiser) is big, smooth but powerful... but all people have their (bike) weapon of choice." And the other guy just said: "motorcycles are motorcycles. Ones tall and light and the other is short and heavy".

    • @Rocknium1
      @Rocknium1 7 років тому

      Jacob Ferguson both men gave you the same answer.

    • @xxMikePortnoyJrxx
      @xxMikePortnoyJrxx 7 років тому +3

      The problem with this battleaxe/katana analogy is that cruisers generally are not powerful.

    • @dy14nk69
      @dy14nk69 6 років тому

      Joe Blow they're more powerful in the same sense as a truck vs a small sports car... I've seen people pull trailers with a cruiser... and some of them can carry sidecars. I would probably never do that... well a sidecar might be kinda cool... but anyways they have the capability where as I would be kinda doubtful of an attempt by a sportbike. Both bike styles are great though.

    • @xxMikePortnoyJrxx
      @xxMikePortnoyJrxx 6 років тому

      Dylan Kelliher speaking of pulling power is really talking about torque, where it's at in the rev range, and the geometry of the pulling vehicle. That has nothing to do with saying sportbikes are, in general, more powerful. The original comment I replied to only spoke of power. You can pull shit with tons of torque and not much power

    • @dy14nk69
      @dy14nk69 6 років тому

      Joe Blow you're right... torque is a force. I often get force confused with power, but the analogy still kinda makes sense. A battle axe would most likely have more force than a katana. I guess he should change his terms if he wants to be technically correct.

      Lol if you like the same design recycled year after year then the Harley is great. The Goldwing has presence. The F6B has presence. Hell Moto Guzzi and even Indian have presence. Harley has a bunch of posers for the most part who can't ride worth shit. Very few harley riders out there who actually know what they're doing.

      i rode sportbikes before i switched to a harley. that comment is not entirely true. you are supposed to support your weight with your legs but that gets tiring after awhile and eventually if you ride long enough some weight will come down on the wrists. its a tiring position to ride in for any kind of long distance.

    During my motorcycle course I had a Yamaha star 250 and they kept talking about counter steering on the corner and I kept ignoring them because counter steering wasn't really working all that much during the main corners they had setup. I did notice in when in the straight line when I bumped up the speed. When I got my Yamaha YZF R-3 I noticed right away the counter steer. I also noticed counter steering a lot more when riding a bicycle.

    If you get a cruiser, don't get a Harley. They're famous for being too soft, too low, too heavy, and not having enough balls. Me and my dad always called them Hardly Ablesons.
    Get an Indian Scout, instead. Lighter, better power to weight, aftermarket for the suspension to tune it up for twisties.
    There's even a guy here on youtube who's done just that. 105HP, 85 ft-lb of torque {all at the wheel}, 8500RPM, 520 pounds wet. Keeps up with 600's.

    Hell yeah; it's always good to hear a level headed opinion of a Harley from someone who actually knows what they're talking about in place of some wanker who's never ridden one just talking shit about them. Give a Street Glide a go one day (yes I'm bias because that's what I ride!) they corner much better. You're totally right about having to plan corners more on a Harley though, well on mine at least, to go fast; if I mess up a line it's just the sheer weight of the bike (375kg) that takes much longer for me to correct on the go but when you get it right it's surprising how much fun you can have in the twisties on a Harley.

    can't say i'm a fan of cruisers. I just don't feel nimble enough, even though it actually has much more power than my bike. That riding position really doesn't make me feel one with the bike, which scares me on the road.

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce 8 років тому

      Cruisers can be nimble, just not twitchy.
      It is a different style of riding.. less lean and more angle, as if you lean just a bit compared to a sports bike you are already scraping, and if you go into some corners and forget that.. well you are off.

      wobbly sauce Yeah exactly. I've definitely seen people ride cruisers with amazing skill, but I don't think I can. I'd feel really uncomfortable on the road if I can't react to something instant (swerving out of the way etc). It's definitely a much more relaxed style, compared to the reactive and defensive style of most other bikes.

      reicirith That is it, seen some forget there on a cruiser and go off a cliff(bailing off the bike before going to far down).

      I had a scary moment on a cruiser while cornering. It kinda takes you by surprise but then if you try to push it by leaning more it goes nowhere lol. Nearly ran off the edge with my mates hollering behind, asking me if i had lost my marbles.

      I've always understood the comparisons being made, as just to inform riders of the different mechanics and mentality of operating a cruiser vs a sport bike.
      The youtuber never said one was better than the other. Just reading the other comments on this video, on people hating cruisers or sports bikes etc. All bikes have thier place. Both riders in the video even complemented the others bike after riding said bike. True bikers know we are all brothers.
      I have a Sport Bike, and will always have a sport bike. When I get the funds, I would like to start a line up of different bikes to my garage, my next bike will be a cruiser. Just because I've ridden for years, and am very proficient, I don't believe I could just jump on a cruiser. There is a learning curve as the blogger pointed out (I'm sure it goes both ways). That's why I enjoy these comparisons.

    never tired harley but any tips on how not to scrape

    • @MrJoshuaBe
      @MrJoshuaBe 7 років тому

      Just have to go very slow. If it has floorboards, it will crape super easy. I have a z1000 and a 98 softail with normal pegs and it takes a decent lean to scrape the pegs but most floorboards lean backwards to make them more comfortable thus are lower in the rear and scape easily. Just go slow and you'll be ok and if you do scrape, stay calm and slowly back off your turn until you don't scrape. A lot of people hear the scrape then imminently straighten out and go off road.

      SoupCanSam yeah and my Dyna super glide takes corners pretty good. the fat boy and road Kings don't corner as well, but sport bikes are in different class when it comes to handling and corners. they're fun but they just don't ride like my Dyna.

      Mihir patel Scraping is part of it 👍. If stock the pegs will scrape and that tells your your near the end of the lean. They are designed to scrape so you don't just lowside without warning.

    When it comes to cruisers, Harleys are the weirdest fucking things to steer. With other cruisers, like an Indian, Yamaha, or Victory for example, you can subtly lean and shift your body weight for simple steering, and then just move the handlebars slightly for more aggressive steering. The handlebars also tend to feel lighter. With a Harley, for every turn you have to push on one handlebar and pull with the other, like you are steering a horse, and it almost feels like it is resisting you the whole time, again like a horse. Personally, I feel like riding a motorcycle should be a step up from riding a horse, but I guess some people like it that way.

      I scrape my pegs on my Harley every time I ride. Swapping over to a Yamaha XSR900 next week and that should solve that problem

    • @tito1211
      @tito1211 7 років тому

      Josiah Baumgartner I had the same problem on both my Sportster and Dyna. I went to the XSR900 a few months ago and was blown away by the performance difference. I've had both now and I can honestly say that for everyday I prefer the harley hands down but for just plain fun the XSR900 gets the nod.

      Ramiro Garcia Interesting... So far I'm enjoying my XSR900 a ton, it rides loads better than my Sportster. However, even though the XSR looks and sounds great, my sportster was just damn sexy. I'll never get over that sound. Really gonna miss it but I don't think I'll to back anytime soon
