Google is the most popular search engine in the world, but it's got a reputation for collecting your data. If you want a search engine that protects your privacy, should you use Brave Search, DuckDuckGo, or StartPage? In this video, I'm comparing all 3 to find the best private search engine.

Hey Christian, good video, I've been using Startpage for over 2 years, I can't switch back to Google, I go back for maps though. After you use it for a few weeks, you learn to love it. You start to notice ads stop following you around the web. The favicons aren't that big of a deal after a while, just learn to use the little mask as marker to read the URL. The POST vs. GET is a big deal. One thing is that you can't do things like put in a tracking number for say a USPS or UPS package and have it pull up that information in startpage unless you have it set to GET. Just small things. You learn to change like instead search for USPS tracking, and go to the site, just like that. Plus, do you really want Google to know everything you're doing? Good to hear from you man!
Maybe I’ll have to challenge myself to switch to Startpage for a month! Haha
0:47 I understood that some sites use favicons to track users
I like Brave search. I really like the AI summary. Very helpful
I agree! It really makes it stand out from the other options.
Brave search is the best
Facts! It’s so awesome!
had no problems with Brave, always working fine...
I'm rocking Bing! . . . only half-joking too :D
What about a docker container of Searxng? Combines various engines and keeps your data safe.
I also want to support these alternatives. However I find the search results to be very US specific
Ah, this is interesting! I’m based in the US so I didn’t notice that. Would be curious to know if others not based in the US have alternatives that work better than these 3.
interesting video, but how? how could you miss a point that these search sites use search engines from google or bing
My understanding is that it’s a bit more complicated than that. Some of the algorithms anonymously check Google, Bing, etc., but they also pull from many other data sources to get results. I think it’s oversimplified to say they use Google or Bing in the background and mirror results, and from a privacy standpoint, I don’t see a concern since it would be their servers anonymously running the query.
They removed the option to look at the page that was actually stored (cached) that caused the result to appear in your search, which makes their results much less interesting to me 👎🏼
How you can still find it?
@@patrick1992 Bing still provides the original page.
I can’t use DDG at school because it’s blocked :(
